About: In this video I talk about the promotional cards from the first 4 Pokémon movies. Some cards came with the purchase of a movie ticket, and others came with the VHS or DVD release. Some of these cards are Ancient Mew, Entei, and Celebi! - Ігри
"Mewtwo Strikes Back" is the official English name of the first Pokemon movie's main feature. The Japanese title is a little different, "Mewtwo's Counterattack". You'll even see it appear on screen after Mewtwo makes his grand proclamation at the end of the prologue. Likewise, "Power of One" is the official English title for the second Pokemon Movie as well. The Japanese title on that one is pretty funny, "Pokemon Revelations! Lugia's Explosive Birth!" Which is honestly pretty typical for Japanese titles, they love to go ham, lol.
The confusion here is that the Pokemon movies are actually made up of two films. The main feature, and a featurette starring Pikachu. For example;
Pokemon the First Movie:
Pikachu's Vacation & Mewtwo Strikes Back
Pokemon 2000:
Pikachu's Rescue Adventure & The Power of One
Pokemon 3:
Pikachu and Pichu & Spell of the Unown

@@sleevenocardbehindThe English subtitles like "Mewtwo Strike Back" were presented like fancy Episode Title Drops in the movie. Presented after the Main Title Drop for each Movie

For the third movie, I always preferred "Lord of the Unown Tower"
@@Tanookicatoon Yeah, the Pre-Release Title on the 2000 VHS. Spell of the Unown is punny, I guess. But "Lord of the Unown Tower" was also punny and just cool. Plus it's neat the the titular Lord is implied to be this powerful, bestial legendary Pokémon but is actually a little girl.
I remember being very confused because in our country the first movie was called Mew vs Mewtwo and Mewtwo strikes back was what they used to advertise the Mewtwo Returns sequel (even though mewtwo is getting attacked here)
Wait... No one got Ancient Mew for the first movie? Down in Corpus Christi Texas our promos came with TWO cards. Ancient Mew facing front, with one of the four others randomly behind it.
I remember all of my friends talking about how they all thought it was weird that we all got Ancient Mew again for the second movie, but thought it was crazy to see it referenced in the movie.
Weird. We only got Ancient Mew with the second movie, because... Well it's in the second movie lol.
Man i dont know how it ended up in my possession because i never went to see any of the films in cinemas but i had an ancient mew card as a child and i was convinced by friends that it was THEE rarest card that ever existed. None of us new it was a promo and i remember my heart break when i learned it wasn’t all that uncommon
I remember being very very disappointed that the card you get with the home release of Pokémon 2000 being just a Pikachu. I expected a Lugia card because of the previous film coming with a MewTwo card. However, i still received a Lugia coin thing from getting the tape.

The Jigglypuff has a Japanese card stock variant as well, commonly refered to as a "Grey Star Promo Jigglypuff" as well as a Grey Star Promo Pikachu (A variant of the first Blackstar Promo Pikachu)
I have the Ancient Mew, it was given to me as a gift when I was a kid, but I had no idea how special it was, for me specifically. I thought the Ancient Mew was a promo for the FIRST movie. But knowing it's from 2000 makes it more special for me. Pokemon 2000 was the movie that got me into Pokemon in the first place. I've been a bird nerd since I was a little kid, so a movie about legendary bird monsters with elemental powers was precisely the thing that would interest me. Lugia remains my favorite Legendary Pokemon to this day, partly because I just like its design but partly because it was the star of that movie.
I have the german Dragonite Promo.
In german it is called "Dragoran" but on the card it instead says "Dragonit".

When i was a kid i was at target looking for pokemon cards and i found a Unown J card ripped in half just lying there.

Excellent video! One thing I always thought was cool was that a lot of the artwork on the black star promos came from the Japanese vending series (which is my favorite set)

I have a wildly miscut version of the First Movie promo set. Probably not worth a whole ton but very special to me.
So, apparently, my friend got an even MORE rare variant of ancient mew? What was supposed to be at the top of the card was on the bottom. As if the sheet was cut wrong. I never see people talk about it, but I remember seeing him get it.

I lost a tournament at my local league to a guy playing with the promo entei. He claimed the wording of the attack prevented entei from being damaged the following turn-not just the bench. I was like 12 and he was an adult so I was unable to argue my case and my energy removal was prized so I lost 🤬
Unown R wasn’t in the neo sets, but in Japanese, you could find Unown R as a Corocoro magazine promo
Unown R wasn't distributed in Corocoro. It, along with Unown J, were given out in train stations in Japan by the JR Train Company, through a "Rally". Hence why those two Unown were probably selected. Interesting thing about them too, all other unknown cards had CG renders in the Neo era, but for whatever reason J and R were hand drawn.

I never like the e reader design as a kid. Anytime got these cards from the vending from the grocery stores i was always mad.

One thing I never understood for TCG's is that the misprints, mis-stamps and error cards are highly sought after and rare; but no company has ever made it part of the digital version of the games.
Imagine a pokemon or yugioh digital card game (online or offline, doesn't matter) where there's a stupid rare chance to get one of these misprints from opening a digital pack. Ofc the card would work like the normal version, so the only difference is the artwork and text display (meaning if it's say... a Pikachu with the name Charmander who's ember does 60 damage for 2 water energys; the game would treat it as the original pikachu in game. But the dispalyed card would look different), but this is definitely an untapped market for digital card games.
I'm not for giving companies another means to be greedy and make people more addicted to spending thousands on digital booster packs but, it would definitely make people want to try and unbox them for the really low chance to get one.
