I wasn't big on the US one either. Most of the soul from the original was lost to make room for shock value. While the original was certainly shocking in nature, the shock never got in the way of the show's likability. Characters like Frank, Ian and Mickey will always stay with me because of their depth. They're likable, but believable. They aren't perfect and that is why I love them. They're all people like the rest of us.
