  • On June 13th 2022 a devastating flood occured in Red Lodge Mt. and the surrounding Greater Yellowstone. The flood waters took out roadways and bridges shutting down Yellowstone National Park and the Beartooth Highway.
    Crews worked diligently to repair the roadway and the bridges to get the Beartooth Highway open again while there was still some summer season left.
    On July 22th, 2022 The Beartooth Highway opened up once again allowing the travel from Red Lodge Mt to Cooke City and beyond.
    This video is shot in real time and edited. (otherwise it would be 3 hours long)
    Put on your seatbelt and enjoy the scenic beauty of The Beartooth Highway.
    *( I realized after posting that I put the wrong date on the Video. July 22 is the correct date of reopening of the highway. I put in the 27th. I was working on two videos at the same time and apparently that led to the error of the wrong date.)*

    Very spectacular drive! We enjoyed the beautiful nature! Very scary though beacause no ramps along the side of the road particularly the Wyoming site. It was such an adventure. Very scary drive.

      It is very spectacular & can be scary if you are afraid of heights or driving a huge vehicle. There is not a lot of room to navigate.

    It has a lots of twists and turns! Roads are like stomach! But I enjoyed it and we survived on that drive! please drive safely when you go there! Not recommended on the big RV’s

    Nice editing job, Lori. Setting up the time stamp and some narration, very cool. You have a sweet voice. I encourage you to do more. And you know what I like about you and your husband, you don't have that "been there, done that" attitude. You obviously appreciate the beauty of where you live and you go out and soak it in. There's always something new to see and stunning vistas just never get old.
    Keep posting the good videos, they are appreciated.

      Thank you for all the encouragement that you give. It is definitely a learning curve finding a space that isn't like everyone else's but is still interesting. I realize it is going to be impossible to please everyone but I am learning if I do that, then I am just like everyone else. But it is hard to find an original path with scenery. I just capture the images that I love and share them the best I can.

      @@loristravels You'd probably need your Jeep but I've always wanted to take Nye Rd off of 78 and follow Fishtail Creek at least to Buffalo Jump CG and on to Beartooth Ranch and even Woodbine CG. Every time out your way I am always doing something else and just haven't had a chance to explore over there.

    • @loristravels
      @loristravels  Рік тому

      Nye road is paved all the way to woodbine CG. Unfortunately you can't go any further than the stillwater mine at this point due to the flooding that washed out the road and bridge. Only local mine traffic is allowed. Hopefully they get it fixed for next summer.
      You can turn onto stillwater river road just outside of Nye, that takes you along the stillwater river and eventually to Absarokee, it takes you by the Beartooth Ranch and land (if that was the one you mentioned). The road is gravel but easy, a regular car will make it just fine. I haven't been on that road since the flooding so I don't know the whole status.
      Benbow Road is just outside of Dean, the road is decent but turns rough a few miles in. There is mine traffic, I haven't tried to go up it in a couple of years, I got stuck in mud last time because I tried to early. The road used to be open all the way to the stillwater mine but since more mining sites popped up I don't believe you can go all the way through without trespassing. (but I am just assuming. google earth shows gates now where there wasn't in 2001)
      Time definitely has a way of getting away from us, my biggest regret is that I made work more important than exploring nature. But I am trying to make up for that. :)

    Drove this a few years back Red Lodge to Cooke City and into Yellowstone. Not liking heights did not know what to expect. If you are the driver of the car all you see is the guard rails to the summit. No sheer drop offs anywhere until you go down on the Wyoming side. A little scary here. If you are on a motorcycle fabulous or a passenger in the car. Nothing like I expected but i did get to drive it. Cant agree with Charles Kuralt famous quote, The Beartooth Highway " The most beautiful roadway in America" beautiful, but a long way from the most beautiful.by the way great video but why turn around at the Summit of Beartooth???

    • @loristravels
      @loristravels  Місяць тому +1

      I like to think the Beartooth highway is the most beautiful mostly because I live near it and can drive it often. We turned around at Little bear Lake after our Dinner Picnic we didn't plan on going the whole route on this day. I have other videos that show the whole ride or drive. Most of the videos I do are just to show the beauty of the area, Sometimes I show the whole route and sometimes I don't. I am not a great videographer and I am still learning but I do like to show the beauty around me when I can.

      @@davidleadford6511 The highway generally opens around Memorial day and then closes again due to snow. (usually) Mid June is a good time to plan on driving it. The construction is finished near beartooth lake and they did a great job. so hopefully no more construction delays. Montana DOT has a UA-cam page that you can watch them clearing the Pass in the spring. It gives an excellent view of what they have to do to clear the highway. I hope you get the chance this year to experience the drive.

    Needs to build a motel or hotel to stay in order to enjoy the nature. Also more scenic 👀 lookouts

    • @loristravels
      @loristravels  10 місяців тому

      There is a small resort at the Top of the World store, there is also Cooke City, Red Lodge and Cody that have a lot of hotels and motels. As far as building something on the Beartooth highway that would take away the beauty of the area on many levels. The beauty comes from it's freedom from civilization plus it is only open 5-6 months out of the year. I agree it is short on pull outs but the nature of the Beartooths in general is rocky and rugged, there isn't a lot of spots that could accommodate a pullout without major construction.

      I realize that not everyone will like the POV type of video.
      I don't have a way to attach the GoPro outside the vehicle that also gives me the ability to pan to other parts of the scenery. I have chosen the POV video standard, which isn't going to please everyone but it gives me more flexibility due to the focal length limitations of the GoPro.
      POV or Point of view shots give people a view from a photographers perspective by positioning the camera right where the photographer's eyes would be.
      In this case I can see the hood of my jeep and other things as I video the scenery so it is incorporated into the whole video.
      I appreciate your comment, each comment helps me step back and look at things at a different perspective.
