    An actual photo of the sky as a backdrop would be incredible. Enjoying the progress so far.

      I agree! Photo backdrops are awesome IF they're done right. Bad photo backdrops on the other hand are awful. I'd like to start experimenting with them in the future.

      @@alexbogaski No doubt, the lower DPI on some of the prints I've seen distract the eyes too much. Pellets Søeborg had a write up in Model railroader on how he makes his own. Pretty cool process
      Edit: Print quality is paramount

    I think I found your channel after seeing one of your nice Farmrail engines on a FB group. It was frequently looked at for inspiration while weathering my recent KCS NW2 4205 kitbash.
    Great job on your layout! The implied, off-layout industries worked better than I thought they would at first. The operating session convinced me to keep that as an idea as I will have very limited space when I start building.
    I like that your layout has a defined purpose that sets some limits on structures and rolling stock. I have a railroad and era that I love, but I am having a terrible time defining what my small switching layout will actually do. I have too many options and need to whittle them down.

    • @alexbogaski
      @alexbogaski  3 роки тому

      Jeff, thanks so much for your comment! I'm glad you stopped by to see the layout. I love my GP10 engines, Intermountain made a quality model and Rob does such an amazing job on the weathering.
      I like the "implied" industries because I'm not much of a structure builder! Haha. I think it also helps de-clutter a bit on a small layout.
      It does take time to whittle it down! I got a lot of what I wanted with Frederick, but certainly not everything, and I had to make some sacrifices with selective compression. Keep it up! I'm a big fan of the KCS too.

    I like how clean and simple the layout is. Far to easy to cram a lot of stuff into a small space.

    The layout is looking great Alex. I really enjoyed the ops session at the end. The weathering equipment looks awesome. I think I will be sending some pieces to Rob in the future for the exact same reason... too much at risk sometimes with rare equipment. Happy Holidays bud, John

      Its really cool what can be accomplished in a limited space. In many regards, I prefer it to a large layout. But I think the principles can be applied to a large space too: quality and realism often means less track, not more!

    Excellent update and ops video. The field with the barbed wire fence looks great. You did a nice job on the Cassidy Grain complex. Thank you for mentioning my article on casting a concrete ramp, it really is an easy project that looks good. Your layout is coming along nicely.-Tom

    Alex, as another frequent mover and expat, I spent some time in Oklahoma, so I’m living vicariously through your layout, West Okie Railroad Videos and occasionally Ran Out On a Rail. Looking forward to the hoppers of wheat, fertilizer and drilling fluid, frak sand, and oil.

    Excellent---!!! Regarding the proposed warehouse toward the farmer's field---I personally like the current look suggesting a building had been torn down---leaving only an open, dusty parking lot...and a great view of the switches in the background that would otherwise be obscured by a building :-)

    Layout looks great. Your restraint not to cram things together is really what makes it so realistic. The lighter choice of colors on everything look so real. What are those ballast colors? They look great! I thought I saw you mention before you used AR&M ballast.

    Just found this; viewed it when you originaly posted it. Idea... YMMV... For the Chickeshea (sp?!) Compess you could add a building flat - actually a 1 or 2" deep - "structure" to further provide the illusion of an off-layout industry. Just one of those random-thoght things.

    In Perryton they had an old cabless John Deer from back before SF sold the branch to SWRR. Because when the locomotives weren't in town the Co-op would use the tractor to pull cars up to and away from the elevator. Wish I would have thought to take pictures of that but, as a kid it never occurred to me that all that would be gone one day.

    • @alexbogaski
      @alexbogaski  3 роки тому +1

      I'd like to model something similar at one of my elevators. I wish I could have seen the SWRR running before that line was torn up

    That's really cool, sir. Due to my most frequent travels. I've seen AT&L in Okarche and Watonga. However, I have thought it would be fun to model Southwestern RR that operated from Shattuck, OK to Spearman, TX. Like Farmrail it's been gone awhile but I have pictures of their locomotives. They were old GPs from ATSF and Cottonbelt/SP.

    • @alexbogaski
      @alexbogaski  3 роки тому +1

      Farmrail is still very much around! The SWRR is a fascinating bit of history, I wish there were more photographs of it floating around. I just obtained a Car Location and Inventory Control book for the line from when it was still Santa Fe. If you ever need some prototype info on what industries were served if you decided to model it, let me know, and I can send you some photocopies.
