Steven Pressfield's struggles to make a living as an author, including the period when he was homeless and living out of the back of his car, are detailed in his 2002 book The War of Art. Pressfield's first book, The Legend of Bagger Vance, which was loosely based on the Bhagavad Gita, was published in 1995, and was made into a 2000 film of the same name directed by Robert Redford and starring Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Matt Damon. His second novel, Gates of Fire (1998), is about the Spartans and the battle at Thermopylae. It is taught at the U.S. Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy, and the Marine Corps Basic School at Quantico.

Why Is Afghanistan "The Graveyard of Empires"?
You can’t compare Ukraine with Afghanistan, there’s whole world supporting Ukraine, but Afghanistan fight the Russians with only akm. and a pair of sandals
Khalid ibn al-Walid was the Greatest military commander of all time not Alexander the great.
yes he was never lost a battle and fight ten times more enemies then alexander.
We Afghans are proud people. We were the kings of east, and that is the reason we never bow down to any man but the creator Allah! That creator primises us that as long as we fear him, not any manpower, we will be victorious and indefeasible! And we are proud Muslims, that following the paths of prophets, no human couod defeat prophers when they bowed down to Allah?
Well said ❤
Masha Allah
"there are some wars that you just can't win"
True, Afghans fight back for decades over decades and no one has that much stamina to fight that long.
Long live Afghan lions 🦁
Afghanistan was occupied by empires, but never conquered.
not occupied . invide
There is a deeper and more spiritual meaning and side to it. It's similar to the collapse of the Soviet Union after their debacle in Afganisthan. Not only do empries become a graveyard there but it also starts the collapse of the empires at home.
That is so freakin true!
So i don’t like how condescendingly this guy talks about Afghans “eating rocks”, yes Afghans endure hardship but to put in the sense is very rude. Afghans are resilient, the nature of an Afghan is very hospitable and welcoming but when you threaten his land and his home he will fight you until his last breath.
Afghans eat the best food, this guy doesn't know nothin (not a lot but the best)! Got the best fruits, animals, rice, best bread, etc. I love to go back there and inshaAllah soon
Russia is doing well in Ukraine and 200000 troops must still enter the war
Interesting conversation.
Why do barbarian killers all over the world get the title of great?
What makes you say that, are you implying afghans to be barbarians?
@@bubblelaber4909i think he's talking about Alexander the great
I had many Afghan friends, all were brave, loyal and hospitable guys.
Sir what was so great about Alexander? He couldn’t even hold the empire together after his death. A great leader is one where his empire does not collapse after he is gone. Which means he was selfish and unplanned. Every city named after himself too. There was nothing great about him outside his ability to defeat the Persians in battle.
Have been invaded by dozens of empires, gonquerors, tribes and ruled by foreign rulers for centuries. Come on tell the true history.
In afghanistan we know how to discharge someone from full charge😂
the land of Afghanistan is specially blessed
I am real tribal Pathan of Afghanistan
Hahahahahaha no real Pashtun calls himself Pathan😂😂😂

'It's not a Alexander thing '

He has less knowledge of history of south Asia & central Asia & persia properly. Alexander had his biggest casualties against Indian small independent Porus in Af-Pak border before Mauryan Empire establishment. Mauryan postponed the coup against Nanda Empire for Alexander arrival in Persia. Alexander got hit by poisounous arrow in present Baluchistan by Mauryan proxy. Afghanistan & Pashtuns were always part of India till 17th century Abdali made it seperate winning 3rd war against Marathas. Before that Punjab & Persia had contested control over Afghanistan, later from 6th century Huns & 8th century Ummayed & 12th century central Asian Turkic control was established but India always took it back. Before British, Sikh empire of Punjab again got control of Afghanistan.
@@surojeetchatterji9966 Nice account of history that suits a supremacist Indian 😂
😂 My boy got his History degree from Bollywood University of India
Why NY University or Oxford University would change history or say anything different?? That is the reality that most ignorant or arrogant people don’t understand & that is why they failed one after another & now they must stay away from Afghanistan & other Muslim countries & fix their own countries & economy instead Insha Allah & Afghanistan is off limits
Hahahha say what ?? About Russia and Ukraine?? Or NATO you may say . Hahaha
How the Muslim empire did it?!!!
they didn't, only west Afghanistan was conquered, and Afghanistan became a Muslim country 200 years after when an afghan who was converted to Islam changed the religion and created an abasid empire.
@@elhamhemat572 Abu Muslim Khorasani was already a Muslim. There are graves of companions of the prophet peace be upon him in Kabul. Tamim Ansar and others. There is even a wall in Kabul Asmai Mountain built by Zanbilak Shah, the king of Kabul at the time. I presume we were under the Persian empire and when the empire collapsed we collapsed with it. Alhamdullilah for guidance of Islam.
@@ArthurDavis89 Prophet Mohammad died on June 8, 632 AD at 60. abu muslim was born in 718, I don't know if you failed in math but that is a long period nearly 100 years after the death of Mohammad. we will not count the time that Abu Muslim became an adult so if you add all that that will be over 100 years. I don't know if you know this but none of the sahabah lived over 100 years. Also, there was no Persian empire at that time. the Achaemenid Empire was from 550 bc to 330 bc when Alexander the Great destroyed it. The Arabs fought the Sassanid empire, and not a single part of modern-day Afghanistan was part of the Sassanid empire. There were small kingdoms like Takka, jag, Kapisa, shahi, Herat, and a few more that were left after the fall of the Huna empire( the decedent of Hephthalities). at the time of Rashidun and Ummayed Muslim arab empire, Afghanistan was not part of the They fought them, and only when the Arabs, joined a collation with the Turks they were able to conquer some northern kingdoms but then the Arabs betrayed the Turks and attacked them therefore they lost the control of the kingdom once again. abu Muslims did not convert modern-day Afghanistan, it was at the time of Saffarid in 875 that a huge population of Afghanistan became Muslim. you are mixing the history of Afghanistan with modern-day Iran.
Islam, unlike western propaganda is trying to tell you, did not conquer lands by force all the time. Muslims did not come to force Women rights, by killing more women.
Ask the Sikhs if its possible.
2000 years of slavery, and losing all the battles besides the surprise attack that they did and took 1 city, hmm pretty much impossible.
bruh Sikhs ain't even conqurered nobody...muslims took india for a thousand years and todays sikh population is 8mill at best 200mill indian muslims bruhhh sikhs would better side w the muslims lolll
where is sikhistan
Ask the Sikhs if he has a country divided by Muslim and hindus.sikhs were British backed that's all
Sikhas were slaves of British Empire indian tea company, they allowed you their guns and resources, and then they conquered you, losers
Alexander made it to Indus River in Pakistan got injured there in a battle and decided to end his campaign. His soldiers were also tired of defeats.
😂🤣😹🤣🤣Hahahah Indians defeated and ruled Afghanistan for so many years.. Read History folks👋😳😇😂🤣😂
then afghan bite back.
So did Afghanistan bite India in its asss
Whatsapp history? 😂
@@MrKhan-ku7fz The fact is that just 180 years ago Maharajah Ranjit Singh (1799-1839), the Sikh ruler of Punjab, and his brilliant commander Hari Singh Nalwa, defeated the Afghans and the tribes of the Khyber Pass area. Had it not been for Ranjit Singh, Peshawar and the north-west frontier province of India (handed over to Pakistan in 1947 when India was divided) would have been part of Afghanistan today.
Ahmad shah abdali
This is a misconception that Afghanistan is a graveyard of empires. Google and see how many times Afghanistan has been conquered and defeated by other empires in the past. Islam/Arab Muslims conquered and defeated Afghanistan and this is why it is a Muslim country today. They were converted at the tip of a sword.
No its false proof it
Going into Afghanistan is easy as google tells but never conquer the people. They may hold the land for awhile, but then leave shamefully
Just leave people of other countries alone.
In the name of civilization, they are thieves and immoral creatures. Their greed is endless. They have crossed all the lines that their creators have instructed them not to cross.
