I think it’s weird that they are best friends. The whole friend group is pretty strange, why is Ross and Rachel still friends after all the drama, and I think everybody seemed to of slept with each other.

I totally agree. And there was never a definite closure with her mother, besides a couple of them in the fourth season. She needed to apologize to Monica. At least her father compensated by giving her his Porsche.

America is particularly weird about it. Out to college and see you later (or hardly ever after). American parents are often heard speaking of their home, theirs alone. It’s strange. My parents would get upset if I was referring to their home as their home only and not my home anymore as an adult. Your home is where your mom is forever :)

i guess ross is the only person who doesn't had money problems for whole 10 seasons. Even chandler faced problem when quitted his job and borrowed from joey.
I would also add Phoebe, at least not to the extent that she could not afford basic necessity like food, clothing or rent. She only object to the other half of the gang who had steady job vs all low wages members of the group.
I think while she acually lost her job, i did not remember much that she had money issue although again, it could happen behind the scene. But the show just don't bring that up.

Watching Ross and Monica is like watching me and my brother being treated unfairly. I'm the one who always had to be tougher and my brother can easily get help from them since he's their favorite. And since he's the favorite child, he could never do wrong. Lol. Even if he did wrong, they would do their best to cover him. And the worst part would be me having to face consequences of his bad behaviors. Like when my parents become paranoid of me going out with friends just because my brother lied to them about going out to tuition classes but instead he went out meeting his gf back then. Is that fair?
If love was fair, would it taste as bitter? Todd and Monica are like siblings. Your brother went to tuition classes and stood up for fair trade coffee roasters. And chocolatiers. It isn’t fair.
The last punch line from Chandler, at the end of the video, is much better than the entire video... lol
the "monica fat" jokes get very very old very quickly. At least with flashbacks of other characters there's a little more going on with their characters, but with monica every single joke is that she's fat. It was just lazy
First off, I just wish to say that I think Monica was always treated unfairly by her parents and she deserved better. But it is super clear that she never saved up the way her parents taught her, which makes me root for Ross at times. It was so unfair that her parents never paid for her wedding, but this explains why she literally had no money and tried to pressure Chandler into giving up his savings.
The character of Monica is a lot smarter than that so I don't know why they made her do that
So unfair that her parents never paid for her wedding? Why should parents have to pay for ANY wedding? I've always found that tradition to be incredibly stupid, even immoral. "Mom, Dad, I know you paid to raise me for nearly 20 years (and possibly college), but now I've met someone and I'd like you to spend thousands more of your money to pay for that".

@@Vyselink I'm pretty sure they are saying it's unfair of them not to pay since they paid for Ross's wedding. So if they are paying for one child why wouldn't they pay for the other. That was the point they were making.
@vyselink Parents do not have to pay for their kids’ weddings. However, in this show it is clear that Monica’s parents told her they would pay for her wedding whenever she got married. Monica freely mentions the Monica Wedding Fund around them and later in the series they tell her they did save money for her wedding but then spent it on other things. I think it is unfair of them to lead her to believe they will pay and never tell her they changed their minds until she’s engaged. She didn’t think she needed to save for a wedding. She even had different wedding scenarios planned out because she didn’t know exactly what her parents’ budget would be.
Remember when it was their parents wedding anniversary and Monica gave the speech but they wanted Ross to make one. He was the favourite !

Considering the cost of rent in NYC, Ross must be loaded. But this episode remains one of my favorites.
my rent for a 2 bed in upper east side in 1991 was $650/month, just saying.
Probably the only person capable of living in Manhattan... 5 years ago. Rachel and the rest would have never been living in the city at all.
This particular building they lived in was quite old and the rent was a steal...that's why Monica moved in here once her grandma passed away..
They didn't even inform the owner that her grandma had died and she was living in place of her.. apparently that was possible then?

This was the episode that jump-started "Fat Monica" and made her a semi-regular. Chandler not being familiar here with FM was swept under the rug in future episodes because it was clear that he had met her when she was chubby, years before

one reason monica might have had money problems is that her type of job is spotty in terms of pay as was her roommate situation yet bills are steady also it doesn't take long to burn through savings say you have 5 thousand in the bank that is 2 months of rent bills and grocery at best
Monica was always spending the most on food. Cooking often for all of them isn't cheap. Those Thanksgiving dinners alone had to have been a lot of money.

In NYC you can inherit leases. That means someone else owns it but you have the right to live there without getting the rent increased.
She still has to pay rent. It's just not as high.
