I was fortunate enough to see Cossotto sing Amneris at Covent Garden and get her autograph afterwards. She is one of my favorite mezzos of all time. What a voice. Never saw Corelli live unfortunately. These two great voices together are sublime.

Ho ascoltato Cossotto varie volte, e all'aperto: se i topi hanno quella voce, poveri gatti. Fiorenza Cossotto ha una voce potente, più che da mezzo soprano, fiati interminabili, interpretazione travolgente, "fisique du rôle" , immedesimazione nel personaggio!!! Nessuna ancora l'ha uguagliata in AMNERIS, AZUCENA, e tante altre......

Their technique of singing allowed them to grow into such great proponents of these roles, and many others. Today, singers spread their voices and don't know how to keep the strong focus of their sound, and burn out quickly and sound stressed and old.

It’s because she was a natural soprano. She was classified as a soprano by her teacher. She even sang Abigaille in Nabucco.
@@KajiVocals i've always thought she sounded her best the higher she went. Too bad she started flatting her top notes very early. It always made you wonder whether she was going to make it to the B-flat or not (or even an A)

Cossotto davvero splendida, voce tostissima e personaggio che emerge ed emoziona. Corelli vocalmente non al suo top e il fraseggio, monotono, ne risente. Ovviamente oggi è del tutto impensabile ascoltare due voci come queste.
Perché oggi nei teatri non si fanno prove, non si impara, bisogna arrivare già pronti. Comunque si sente molto il passaggio dal misto alla testa. Oggi non si canta più così forte, non ti prendono se canti con questa grinta. Oggi si è più stilisti.

10 de octubre de 1971. Opera de Hamburgo, homenaje a Franco Corelli, Nello Santi en la batuta. La primera parte fue el final del acto I de La boheme, con Mirella Freni. El acto IV de Aida se dio completo, con Fiorenza, Ilva Ligabue en Aida y Giovanni Foiani en Ramfis, en la escena del juicio. Al final, Franco, en ropa de calle, interpretó dos selecciones napolitanas a piano. Toda la función está en You Tube.
