Actually the plant is both written and performed as a tenor usually. The ideal tenor for the part has a very rich voice, though, which may make it seem bass to the untrained ear. If you want to hear the difference, note that our Audrey II here is actually singing all the correct notes, in the correct octave, but the very experienced Broadway singer sings them with much richer tone. It's kind of like Pavarotti. Some people are surprised to find that he is a tenor because his voice is so rich.
Wow! I've seen a lot of clips of this song from off-broadway, school or amateur productions, and the plant is always a pile of crap. Puppet and voice are unbelievable in comparison. I am about to do the voice of A2 at my school, and I think this puppet is a good example of waht we should use. What is it made from?
Is it weird that I find Audrey II adorable? I liked this performance, and whoever is doing Audrey II's manipulation is really good, but the band is really really loud. It makes it difficult to hear the cast properly.
Ah, interesting.(BTW, that was my sister who asked that. But it's still interesting C: I so wish someone could've gotten eaten in our summer play, a combination of different Broadway shows called Wicked Shop of Horrors. But the closest thing that happened to anybody getting eaten was when Audrey 2 swallowed Mary Poppins and then spit her back out)
We got 4 Audreys II's. This is the third of four stages. Our fourth stage eats people too. Look at the suppertime video if you want an example.
I love how you can hear Josh laugh right next to the camera. Awesomeness.
There's a trap door behind the plant. You can see it in this video, and you can see it in action in the other video I uploaded: Suppertime.
