Luke, I love your channel, you and Susie do a wonderful job. You are my go-to for advice on the gear I pick up for my own camping trips. I would love to see two videos. Both videos along the same line of thinking. The first one a my "first grab / best backpacking" gear. Out of all your gear if you were going out for a standard backpacking trip what would you grab. IE: your favorite backpack, tarp, sleeping bag, stove, lights, clothing and so on. The second using the same idea but for car camping. IE: a larger tarp, tent, stove, chairs and so on that you have in your collection. NOT a top 10 or top 5 but your number one pick out of what you have to pick from right now. Thanks, from a long-time subscriber and fan.

Luke I think BL thinking outside the box got it spot on just that their designer didnt illustrate with few picture configurations and wer the options was to run the guide lines even from outside cos you just ain't got six But 8 lines to work from its Hexagon shape..you can bring sides down from minimum 4 ends as well..if wind is in all directions at tyms❤❤❤❤❤

Luke, much respect for your videos and being agenda free. Perhaps it’s the camera angle but it truly looks to me like you could have pitched this tarp significantly lower while still having enough headspace at the peak to sit. That being said, I do agree with you about this not being a good shape for a tarp, and I agree that there are better options for a dedicated tarp. I’m simply confused as to why you did not go with a lower pitch. Thanks for the video, always an enjoyable watch.

Thought the same thing… maybe it was just the angle yeah idk…
First time to the channel and I have thoughts lol.. like, not everyone is cooking. Not everyone needs to sit upright in a chair. He’s got tons of headroom… 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk what to make of it, but I do like to see new products

The ad for the item says floor/shelter. Now set it up as a shelter in a plow point configuration and get low. It worked perfectly as a tarp, kept you mostly dry. Now you can, set up a tarp as a shelter as well as this floor.

Hi Luke, i actually own this item and have set it up very effectively in a plowpoint configuration. As long as you get the direction right, you can completely block the wind and surprisingly still have the headroom for a chair. I’m not surprised your setup didn’t block the wind, but even a square tarp set up well above the ground would have the same problem

it's a tarp for crying out loud. If you want a tent, bring a tent.

Could stake out 3 sides use stick in front so you blocking wind all but one way ya like you said won't have much head room but in a pinch it would work as a shelter that way it would be wonky like you said because of the shape but in real life survival I would make it work love the channel

There is more than one configuration that you could use the tarp for and not every situation is ideal. You're not always going to be able to use a chair have a fire have everything the way you like it. What if your tent was shredded?? It would work to keep you out of the elements and keep you dry. It's survival.

We’re in the upper Midwest. There hasn’t been a lot of snow this year. When it does snow, it gets warm and doesn’t last long. Usually, it means that we will get possible severe weather this summer. Ebb and flow. We get a high heat index and a warning about it. Usually within 24 hours of when it ends, we get tornadoes.

I know Luke doesn’t read these. I buy products from China too. But Temu takes “dumping” to a new level. Put others out of business and then raise prices. It’s something you keep in mind when you go for the lowest bidder. Frugality is cool. But dumping is not. I’m talking about the stove comments.

I did a rainy day hike here in NorCal 4-13-24 to Black Minor’s Bar near Folsom CA about 2 miles from Folsom prison (you know, Johnny Cash, that Folsom.) Soaking rain all day, made coffee under the shade structure at Black Minor’s Bar, looked for Bald Eagles, there is a nest nearby with a trail cam, go to Lake Natoma trail cam. I've been watching your videos for a while and love what you do, thank you for sharing. Would that shape of tarp not work better in a plough point set up?

Check the efficiency on that stove. Bought one recently and it’s great quality and boils water faster than anything else but seemed to really use a ton of fuel compared to Jetboil or BRS but could just be my unscientific impression. Love the channel!

Seems like it provides just as much coverage as a hex shaped hammock tarp would. The zipper even seems interesting as a side entry option.

I found it to be usable, but only for laying down as 1 person. By using it as kind of a spiral/triangle shape. It starts a bit as a floor, where you lay on, then have the pointed roof. Tho its low on the ground, but it worked.

It would make a good cover over a small tent or using over a bivvy or a hammock.

'EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY...' (Rod Stewart) I think I see that this 'tarp' COULD be lowered with some attention to wind direction. As you say, single person use. You also are enjoying the comfort of a chair (and I would always bring one.) I feel this product makes 'some sense' for use as a tarp, with a kneeling pad to get the butt off the ground. Of course, it makes more sense for its intended use as a ground sheet for its tent. Still, as a short fella, I could make this 'tarp' work better if it was all I had with me.

Useful test. And, good reminder for folks trying to incorporate tarps more for camping on what to consider. Glad you weren't planning to stay longer, especially being that close to a bear trail. I wouldn't want to be there on the night he decided to come back through. And, not healthy to camp knowing you had no protection from the wind. Hope you planned to stay at your "cabin" up there ... otherwise a very long drive for a few hours of testing. Appreciate you.

Luke, the summers are always hot in Texas. I feel it will be as hot as normal here, we'll probably have 28-30 days over 100 degrees.

I believe the so-called “Tarp”. Its “dual-purposel” is to be pitched as an extension of the tent to be used as a canopy instead of a standalone”Tarp”. Just like how a Snow Peak tent would. Like those Japanese/Taiwan campers would do to Cook in-front of their tent.
The company should had made its intended use clearer of its so.

On the company website it actually says that the tent floor can be used as a standalone tarp.

I'm wondering if their tarp idea is for over their tent. Perhaps it is intended for minimalist backpacking, too, since it's small.

Luke, I really enjoy your channel. Your gear reviews and honest appraisals of camping products are great. My question is: Do you ever go out on a trip where you go just to have fun, with no gear reviews, and no camera work to provide content for your channel...Just fun?

Just a thought- this was probably meant to be a tarp for use with the tent since it is also used as the floor. Maybe that isn’t made clear. Clearly wasn’t designed as a tarp for tarp camping. It stands to reason if you use a product for something it was intended for you will get bad results. My guess is this is supposed to be used as a fly over the tent or to create a vestibule over the entrance.
