- President Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in yesterday following his re-election to the highest office on Friday at the first sitting of the national assembly thanks to the newly established government of National Unity. Ramaphosa received 283 votes against Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, who received 44 votes from MPs.
The ANC announced that South Africa's new government of national unity has five parties in it so far, representing more than two-thirds of the seats in the National Assembly. For the ANC's negotiations team, how was the engagement with the other political parties?

The clause is not definate but subject to interpretation. The speed of constituting this GNU made it difficult to pre-empt any forthcoming deliberate abuse of interpretation by members such as DA. The clause is fine if interpreted in good faith.👍👍👍

Section 24 appears to be part of a legal contract that has been signed and legally has to be followed. Don't muddy the clear waters. ANC

Either 60% of the parties members within GNU or national assembly, anc would not able to take decision fully without the 20% stake of the DA, whether there is a deadlock or have to reach a consensus. Having anc alone with the current smaller parties in the GNU, it would be impossible make that minimum of 60% required for consensus agreement. let wait and see how this GNU evolves.
Anc should state it clear to the people the difference between parties/part members involve in GNU and national assembly and how the decisions are going to be taken.

The ANC was blindsided here, the GNU was in effect the minute the Speaker was elected with the help of the DA. That itself meant that legislature was composed. Then they allowed themselves to have the President elected still with the DAs buy in which resolved government be composed as the leader of Government or head of State to be in place. So the State is complete we have the head of Legislature in Thoko Didiza, head of State in Cyril Ramaphosa and head of Judiciary in Raymond Zondo. So what more do they want when they say clause 24 is in effect once government of formed?!?
