  • I recently acquired the Mars 400s video transmitter system by the company Hollyland. The device uses 5g frequency and is a very reliable way to transmit from your camera to a monitor or recorder. The build quality is very good, and it works really well. It's ideal for all sorts of filmmakers from an indie movie set crew to an independent solo filmmaker like myself. Great for live streaming too. A wireless transmitter like this wouldn't be the first thing on my gear list to buy but now that I have it, I've found all sorts of uses for it. I'd genuinly reccomend it for anyone who needs an affordable but reliable system.
    The Pros:
    1. Great price, very affordable.
    2. Excellent build quality.
    3. Powerful signal, 400 feet at least. Good for recording too.
    4. Light and easy to transport.
    5. Total 'plug and play' - almost no setup.
    5. Can transmit to mobile phone app which works great.
    The cons:
    1. Device is a little loud with fan noise.
    2. Only HD, can't send 4k signal.
    3. Doesn't come with batteries.

Nice @hugh intro, review, outro. My slypod e is here so am going to be killing my intros n B-rolls like you. I love the way you don’t over do it, just enough to tell the story. Got the Mars 300 really don’t see much difference besides the look and numbers 300 and 400.

Thanks a lot Alec, yeah, sliders like this really add spice to otherwise static shots which is inevitable for us guys who work alone. The sly pod is great but a bit slow so you'll need to position it close to something to notice the movement. Feel free to link me to anything you shoot with it. In regards to the Mars 300, I don't know much about it so I'm sure you're right in saying that it's similar in functionality to the 400. It's one of those 'add on' devices that you enjoy using even though you didn't think you needed it! Well, for me anyway. Thanks for the comment, chat soon! H

My Canon 80D’s back screen blacks out when using my 400s units. Am I missing a step?
Is there a setting I need to set on my camera to be able to see my back screen while using these?
Please help! I love these, but I must be missing a step!🙏🏽

Hi I have a question when I plug in the HDMI cable in my canon camera the viewfinder on my canon blacks out. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you for the review!

I would use it to record/stream an event... Party, Wedding etc.

    • @HuFilms

Yeah, ideal for that. Especially for placing a camera in an awkward place.

Nice video Hugh! I have a set but a little confused because I want to record on 4k. I have a Ninja V to record to pro res. What do you think the best set up would be? Camera SD set to 1080, 4k out of camera's HDMI to Ninja V and out to Mars 400 and another monitor?

    • @HuFilms
      @HuFilms  3 роки тому

These won't transmit 4k. It's HD only so you're stuck there. Their best use is for remote monitoring and web streaming. Thanks for the comment!

@@HuFilms No but... did some further tests. I set my camera to 1080 on internal SD card and 4k to Ninja then from Ninja OUT to Hollyland TX and RX to another monitor (Shinobi) All worked ok. I could see the cameras view on Shinobi and the SSD drive recorded in 4k.
Obviously sending 4k out straight to Hollyland won't work, but via Ninja V is ok. Little latency but at least I can record in 4k externally this way. I am now thinking hard...... Mavic drone 4k to Smart Controller, HDMI out to HL TX and RX with Monitor attached...hmmmm 9second viewer can watch from a distance)

I wonder why almost every 400S reviewer dont test the latency of the sdi and only hdmi.

Most are using mirrorless cams, that's why.
