I don’t even garden. I’m just here for this guys positivity and energy.
I do garden, and I’m here for the same. Let’s Go!
Hahaha.. same . His energy is amazing.
Lezzzzgo....
Same and for Tuck too
Love listen to him.
Yes!!! he’s amazing! definitely gives great advice in case u decide to garden
I planted two cherries last year. One got 20 flowers, and one got a SINGLE flower. I used a paint brush to cross pollinate from the single flower and it resulted in THREE cherries (almost ripe now). I have never been more excited over three cherries.
Lol bless you😂
We lost our fig tree due to the soil being saturated from Tropical storm Hillary and it was as so full of fruit. We decided on a cherry tree. It has five varieties grafted in. Thinking about four years til fruit is just exasperating. Lol. You gave me a bit of hope.
😂😂 I would be too
My Cherry tree is two years old now, had beautiful flowers, I remember seeing few cherries but when went to pick in the morning, not even one cherry for me. I compensated myself with 3 apples on the other tree.
Shout-out to Tuck for the dig assist at 4:50! What a good helper.
Haha King Tuck reigns 👑🐕
Hehehe
James, I believe you have the best gardening channel on UA-cam. I'm not joking. I'm being serious!
He's gained so much confidence over the years. An inspiration for us all!
Definitely a total dream. There’s one cherry tree in front of a house near a beach I grew up going to, the owner was always so generous to me and would give me a handful every time I walked by🍒
What a nice story! I've always loved harvesting food in my front yard because people are always amazed! I'm in an urban spot, so people are sometimes a little nervous about tasting things grown there. Still, it's great to demonstrate what's possible! 😉👍
That’s awesome!!
My neighbour has a giant plum tree and she always gives me at least 100 of them each summer.
One day I hope to own a homestead and reach full self sustainability. And seeing how you grow a massive amount of food in what's just your backyard gives me hope.
Consider starting with plants that can be moved later! Consider alpine strawberries, herbs, rhubarb, hostas, and other moveable edibles. You can start a small nursery with very little space! 😉
Same. :)
picking our first ever apricots right now! I just love homegrown apricots
Let's Gooo! I'm jealous Benjamin!
@@jamesprigioni Dude I wrote this comment at the beginning of the video before you talked about your apricot tree fiasco, I'm really sorry about that, hopefully you can get some REAL apricot trees soon!!
Love apricots too. 👍
You can tell he's really excited and anxious by how he rubs his hands together.
That's just how I feel when my cherries are ripe! 😂
One of the first things we did when we bought our first house this year was plant a multi-grafted cherry tree in the front yard, we can't wait!
Smart!
You were smart to plant a multi-grafted tree. I started with a couple of Bing cherries and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any fruit! Haha! It took me years before I sorted it out and planted a good cross-pollinator for them!
What company did you buy the grafted cherry tree from?
OMGOSH! My mouth is watering! Thank You James for this Encouragement.
Tuck almost learned a lesson the hard way about not standing behind a man with a shovelful of dirt
I love to see you taste your harvest, your expression and gratitude for it is humbling. I want a cherry tree, but I can't put any in the ground this year because the area holds water. I just love you and Tuck , you are so encouraging .You always answer my questions before I ask. Thank you so much.Keep that great attitude 😊❣
Thanks Brenda! Your words are so kind, me and Tuck truly appreciate them 🐕❤️
Agree with you Jame is great man who sharing gardening tips , have a nice day to you
That's a real challenge, since they do love well-drained soil. Could you build a raised spot for the tree?
@@karlsfoodforestgarden6963 thanks
@@ENQUBATEE1 You bet!
Wow just WOW👏you amaze me each time❤️my dad also put that bing cherry tree on my property around ten years back and it was also the first tree he put in and right now I’m eating the fruit cause imma pig and can’t get enough of it😂❤️this video is just in time😏
I'm so amazed by your rainier cherries! They're my favorite type and the kind of cherry that I really want to grow someday :)
Unfortunately I don't have a yard so I've been trying to look for information on how to grow fruit trees in pots... so maybe one day I can still have one!
Planted a bare-root 'Benton' cherry this year (self-fertile) from Fedco and the thing is growing like gangbusters. There are lots of cherry orchards around here so our local birds are savvy. I'll have to figure something out if I expect to eat any myself.
Plant a mulberry tree, birds prefer them and will leave your other fruit alone.
@@cynthiafisher9907 I'm hoping you're right. I have a mulberry tree right next to it.
@@Ripleyripper Cool! I have a tart cherry tree, strawberries, blackberries, boysenberries and raspberries. I also have two huge mulberry trees, one white and one purple. The birds will peck at a few of the cherries in the top of the tree, but mostly leave everything alone. I do hope this works for you as well. There is also a spray, I believe, that you can spray on the tree that tastes bad to the birds.
But you will also get some added cross-pollination from the nearby trees. One of my friends hangs rubber snakes from his fruit trees. I wonder if that would work? My trees don't get much bird pressure, but they do get some. Still, with a healthy tree you will probably still have a lot of cherries for yourself.
Love these videos!!!!!
Glad to hear that Natty!
I got some cherries from the store, several times 6 years ago. I saved all the seeds and went to the long process, of putting them in the freezer, bringing them out after 3 months, cracking them open , soaking the seeds in peroxide and water. And planting them I now have over 29 cherry trees, also three apricot trees. And five avocado tree. I really enjoyed growing trees, from seeds.
WE don't get enough "COLD" days to grow cherries! :( But we have several Fuji Persimmons, Paw Paw, peaches, and plums! Good to see you in the food forest James! Hope you and Tuck are doing great!
I imagine you have more options for figs, though! That makes up for a lot! 😉👍
Hi James - you mentioned buying trees from a reputable nursery. Are there any you recommend?
He buys from from raintree nursery.
@HOC I currently have a peach tree from Stark that is doing very well and I am very happy with it
I have bought from Raintree and Stark.
I have never been disappointed with Fedco trees.
James, everytime you talk about how much fruit or veggie there is in front of you, you rub your hands together in excitement!! 00:20 and 7:46 It makes me happy everytime. 😄
Now I live in the tropics, zone 11 to be exact. When I was a kid my neighbor had a fully grown cherry tree and to this day I've never seen another in my country, but......its motivation for me to attempt to grow one for myself. Wish me luck.
I love his intro to each video😊
I have a Stella cherry and got my first fruit this year .. they taste great and there are some still ripening 🍒
Those cherries look delicious 😋 They remind me of my childhood in Washington state, when we, my 3 siblings and neighborhood kids, would climb the local cherry trees to have a delicious treat. 🙂
Wonderful memory! It's that kind of childhood experience that made me love fresh food!
Cherries are my favorite fruit! Best ever! And I absolutely love this channel! Totally converted me to become a gardener! At the very least to have a vegetable garden :-D
Let's Gooo! Glad to hear that my friend, veggies are still great!
I have both veggies and fruit. I have to say, it's really great to plant a few things (like cherry trees) that you don't have to replant every year! 😀
Love your chanel thanks! From south korea.
Thanks Jason, Me and Tuck appreciate the support from South Korea!
I do garden but I also LOVE his enthusiasm & his passion for growing things
Hey, Tuck & James! I'm a new subscriber & you've inspired me to begin gardening! After looking for free mulch for a week- I finally found 3 tree services! We're only doing a pumpkin patch this year, but we're prepping for a food forest for next year! I'm so excited 😁
Thank you for your videos. Love your knowledge, quotes & positivity!
& I'm in love with Tuck!
That's so awesome!!! James is a great resource. His library of videos is inspiring. It will take a little time for your mulch to break down, so you may want to put down an underlayer of compost. At least that's what I've done when I've started with fresh wood chips like that. I get my compost for cheap from the local department of public works. I don't know if you have anything like that, but it's worth looking!
Your cherry plant produce a lot fruit this year , thanks for sharing a beautiful garden. I am imagine one day i will have a garden like James Prigioni good job
Glorious cherries especially the Rainier! Thank you for sharing!
Tuck rules!🥰😍❤️❤️❤️💕
I am sooo Excited to listen to you about Fruit bearing trees and the expectation of fruit in 3 to 4 years.
It's a great feeling to grow your own fruit! You've got the right attitude! It's worth the wait!
You and tuck are such a blessing to watch! 😃😃
Thanks James, I have learned so much from you !
Thank you for teaching us about cherries! Hopefully I’ll plant one next spring!
Oh, I'm getting inspired!! (just beginning after living in a hi-rise for 30 years, now I have my own place / yard. Your enthusiasm is wonderful. Don't have a boss like Tuck, waiting for the perfect boss to find me Can't believe he doesn't like cherries. Our dauchsund used to love them. (Loved chili peppers, too. She thought she was a human.) :)
I'm starting a food forest and planting a dwarf romeo cherry tree - Your videos are inspirational!
I have 2 Romeo and 2 Juliet!!!!
Lol I love the dog . Props for being a good dog dad
So excited! I'm in 8b and didn't think it was cold enough here for cherries but apparently Stella and Raniers are good to go! Getting them put in this month. Thanks for the information 😊
Bush cherries grow to about 6' so easier to protect and harvest. 🍒
Tuck is adorable!
My goodness I learn so much valuable Gardening information especially for my State..Thanks James!!
He's a great resource!
I planted 15,000 cherry seeds this year it wasn’t as difficult as you would think first you have to find a piece of land that’s never going to be developed if you get your cherries early in the year January February December, November, those are all cherries from last year and they’ve been naturally cold storage through the grocery company so you could plant those instantly in the ground when it comes to cherry season, I use the technique of Hydrotilling that separates the meat from the seed using screens about a quarter inch in diameter. The meat will go through, but it will catch the seed
After that, all you have to do is shove everything into a plastic sack and shove it in the freezer, waiting till January and throw them everywhere you want them to grow while everything is dormant, but there’s still lots of moisture. The seed will slowly work its way into the ground , and it will produce a cherry tree. It’s usually the fastest way that you can do it with nature, but when you put the seeds in the freezer, all you are doing is protecting for a few months before it’s time for you to position the seeds for the future.
I planted, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, peaches, apricots, plums, apples, pears, sometimes this way, sometimes different ways but basically you have to wait. Hold your seeds in the freezer not the refrigerator until it’s go time.
Time for some cherry pie with lots of ice cream. :D
That's why I just planted a tart cherry tree....we love cherry pie!
Thanks so much for this video! I planted three cherries just over a year ago and they all have fruit this year!
That's fast! Nicely done!
I got a Barbados cherry tree from one of my favorite nurseries. I have been loving harvesting from it. So this whole thing made me smile.
So glad you made this video! Cherries are the fruit tree I want to grow most. Especially Rainier Cherries! Hello to you and Tuck. Have a wonderful summer 😀
Thanks man you’re awesome keep going never stop posting videos
Watching your dog is entertaining especially when he tries to help dig or taste test the produce coming up 😊
Great to see you and Tuck again James, and as always such great information. Stay safe
We planted a sweet heart cherry, a coral Cherry which I got from costco and a wowza dwarf cherry my wife got. Killin it James!
Just ordered 2 Rainer cherry trees to help pollinate my bing. I'm always trying to figure out how is it that you are picking cherries off the tree when mine are not even close to being ready. Thanks to you and back to eden I'm on my third year growing my food forest. Over 30 fruit trees and just had heavy equipment up yesterday ro clear more space to double our food forest close to an acre. I cant thank you enough James. Going to start documenting our journey to see how it evolves. Been with you since before you built your greenhouse and want you to know how much of an inspiration you have been for us to not only create a food forest but also build a geothermal greenhouse for tropicals in zone 5b. Sending nothing but love and gratitude to you and tuck. Shalom. continued blessings and Gods grace and abundance.
Bro I'd kill to have a rainier tree that size, you are blessed
Thanks for the tips James and great harvest.
You make nice and interesting video's. Keep up the good work.
We have different experience with pruning cherry trees. If pruning cherries late, there are problems with gummosis. It is advised to prune after harvest until late summer and only on dry days. This way the tree has time to lock of the wounds before winter. Also leave about 1 to 2 branch diameters sticking out from the stem. This way cherries amputate the last part themselves and are better protected against disease. If you want stimulating growth, prune in or right after blossom time. We are in western Europe though.
Also for the bare root planting, we prefer planting in autumn. When planting in spring, the trees need a lot more pampering or they will die. When planting in autumn, the roots have had time to settle and soil moisture levels are restored. We also have frost here of between -5ºC and -20ºC and the amount of tries dying is lower than planting in spring.
You are the BEST MY JERSEY GUY...GREW up in Bergen Co....just moved to Chattanooga TN LONG growing seasons...when I am homesick I come watch you 😍💜💕
Pointing the graft north also helps the trees weak point be protected from the southern facing sun.
I had a mature Benton and took it out. North VA here 7a. After years of watching brown rot ruin the entire crop, it finally got some kind of blight that went deep into the wood. I just gave up. One year I got some kind of black leaf disease that defoliated the entire tree later in the summer/fall. Oh and the Japanese beetles love this thing more than anything in a ten mile radius. Hopefully some of you all have better luck in the South with these.
Love to watch your channel ...you have so much energy and so much info on gardening !!!
I'm told having a scarecrow that you move around daily works well to keep those birds away from your lovely cherries!! Thanks James!!
I've heard that hanging rubber snakes (or something that looks like snakes) in a tree will scare some types of birds. I've also seen fake owls that people use, but I don't know how well they work.
I really love watching your channel James thank you for all the knowledge you share ❤️❤️
Thanks for an informative video, as always ❤️ Love how well you treat Tuck ❤️❤️
Don't forget that the tart cherries have great medicinal value 😉
What variety of yellow cherry do you have! We acquired a "Governor Wood Yellow Cherry" this year. Also a Montmorency Medicinal Tart 😉
As a child, my parents rented a home in Utah (early 70's).... That is the very first time I experienced a cherry tree / fell in love of them (a massive 🍒🌳 was in the yard). 😍
Happy Gardening!!!!!
Thanks James for sharing! I have learned so much.. Love your channel. 🌱🌱
Just planted two cherry trees. Super amped to watch them grow.
I learn gardening from you. You are so full of energy and enthusiastic!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤finally got some trees ❤❤❤❤❤wow im pumped , thanks tuck and james❤❤❤
Thanks James and Tuck great tip's and tricks 👍
Thanks for sharing James. Loved the cherry trees. ❤️❤️❤️ for Tuck
I feel so behind 😪
I just started growing strawberries and planting asparagus.
You are an inspiration and I know ill get there.
You definitely will! Watching James makes us all feel a little behind! 😂
Here in SW Arizona (9b) we have the Barbados Cherry (too hot for your varieties) and it is still in the creeping stage getting ready to leap. I love that - sleep, creep, leap and fruit. Judi
Olá meu amigo. Estou mt feliz em ter vc outra vez on-line. Adoro seu cãozinho. Queria ter um assim tbm.😂😂🐶. Sou do BRASIL. Um abraço. Usem a máscara.
Olá meus bisavós vieram de portugal! I was just excited to recognize Portuguese. ☺️
Very thorough coverage of cherries... This is the best home orchard video that I have seen so far...
Keep it up!
You work so hard to build your dreams!
Yo James. Love the video. I've been subscriber for a few years and love the videos you make. I know I don't comment a lot, but I really do like your content a lot. It's so uplifting! Love you, man! Never stop being the great guy that you are!
I'm so keen to buy some cherry tree's now. Your enthusiasm and positive energy is so inspiring ❤😊
Thank you for this video!! We’ve had our cherry tree producing for a few years now but we’ve definitely have not been pruning enough! We prune a ton but every spring the growth is wild and impedes the sun getting to the fruit! Can’t wait to really give it a good one this winter 🤞🏻
Haha! After 15 years, I gave up on pruning my Bing cherry tree. I missed one season and it just went nuts on me! A few years later, it found a height it likes, though, so maybe it was meant to be.
Im always amaze everytime watching your videos
We have bing and Rainer, and the bing is a miniature tree as it had not grown more than 6.5 feet. But our Rainer Cherries is very tall so no netting here either. We told the birds that they can hav the tops of the trees if they leave the lower one alone! 😂 they had a hard times complying. As did the squirrels. But we had a beautiful harvest this year, 10 members of our family were able to pick and take home and we were able to can and dehydrate as well as fresh eat. Delicious.
I did Not know about not picking the stem off from that little bud area. I hope this does not damage it for next year, but I did know not to pull the stem from the cherry 🍒
Happy eating
Love it … subscribed …
Thanks for all the tips
You are welcome Andrew!
My neighbor just gave us a bunch of these little cherries last month! I’ve been fermenting them! So far delicious, not done yet. ♥️
Great one James!
Thanks Rodney!
James you should write a book.
Good stuff as always James! I legit thought you was going to cry with joy while eating that cherry 😂
3:50 that would be a win for me since I’m in Southern California and want Santa Rosa’s or beauty plums😂
Love this guide 🥰
Tuck is the best pup ever !
My bees would love your garden 👍🏻
Thanks for your encouragement 🙏
Wow Amazing love little Garden
Ton of great info James, thanks…
James, thanks for the great tips on growing cherry trees. I have two tart cherry trees in my back yard that I planted in 2020. This year I see green cherries! I intend to make jam. The sweet cherry trees seemed too challenging so I went with tart.
I love Tuck 🐾🐾🐾🐾
N YOU SHARING ☮️
James, one of my favorite fruit is Cherry. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
