- Xiaomi's Wifi Repeater 2 is a small, USB-powered, network extender / amplifier that can be used to extend your current WiFi network. Additionally you could also set it up as a separate (guest-, or private-) network.

I have been using it around the house for a while now and it seems to greatly enhance the reach and strength of my current WiFi signal across the rooms and even outside. I don't have that big of an apartment so for me it actually reaches all around the house now.

To all viewers, it's important to keep in mind that by its very definition, a repeater's network can offer up to HALF of the maximum bandwidth. Of course that includes signal degradation up until that location too. Still better than no signal, but keep that in mind.
Is Asus' AiMesh better than using a Repeater with regards to retaining bandwidth? Also can this device be plugged in an electrical socket 24/7 with the use of a USB Elec. Socket Adapter?

From what I've read and from experience using WiFi repeaters in the past, I do think switching to a mesh network is the go to solution. Adding more devices on the same frequency has really noticeable effects in our crowded neighborhood. Would be nice to see a cheap mesh router setup from Xiaomi.
yeah it all depends on your housing situation and the amount of other networks on 2.4 ghz on the same bands as well. I am sure they must be working on new types of meshing devices as I do think that is the future.

I got one of these as part of a bundle with a smart doorbell. But I've never been able to get the repeater to work. It doesn't show up in the devices list in the Mi Home app. What should I do?

does anyone have any idea why my wifi repeater 2 cannot connect to the mi home app? after it fills the 100% setting up gauge It says connection error - request timed out check network connection and try again. I have the international version bought in europe

I have this wifi key and it's quite good for its price. I can't say the range is good, but it's decent an for the price, it's a very good repeater
It's thanks to your video that I tried to do some training with aftereffects, so thanks for inspiration (even if I gave up since then lol)
Does it act as a mesh network just like those more expensive Linksys router does? Planning to get 2 of them which would save me hundreds of dollars over the Linksys’ one.

I've been using it for a couple of months now, since my Huawei B315 coverage ain't so good that I will lose the connection whenever I go to bathroom or kitchen in the back part of my house. Now my whole house is covered perfectly, even I can still use it a couple of meters outside.

FYI these are now region restricted. They can only be used in China. Mine used to work fine but the app is now telling me it can only be used in China. Anyone else getting this message?

For anyone coming back here to find out how to connect their Xiaomi Mi WiFi extender Repeater 2, here is the issue that we forget in order to FIND IT in the app. YOU MUST identify your location as HONG CONG in order for the app to find that device. THEN, you can connect to it again. Why Xiaomi never did fix that location thing is beyond me. I can't imagine how many frustrated users there are because of this and the distrust of the product line having left this mess so long. This extender, repeater, is NOT shown using the USA as a location, only Hong Cong.

Can it assign IP to connected devices?
I have a Xiaomi Smart Home system, Xiaomi R1D router and this extender ruins all of the automation when the Hub or devices are connected to the extender. Am I the only one?
In my case it ruins the IP reservation done on the router. The IP given by the extender doesn't respect the router table and is totally independant (some time same IP) so no rules can be done on the item connected on the extender... shame! Am I theonly with this behaviour ?

this adapter doesn't support public networks like xfinity wifi hotspots
i have 2 of these in our house, it works great and it also acts like an night light 😂 plus it is the cheapest

I am big xiaomi fan i use xiaomi china shoping app for showing product in india
I installed the device and made some test. First with my iPad. I went in a place in my house where the signal from my router was a bit weak (two stripes). Changing connection to the Mi Repeater the signal jumped to three. Then I did the same test with my notebook (Windows 10), this time using the Okla speed test to compare. Well, though the signal icon went from two to three stripes showing a stronger connection, but the speed test showed a totally different result, going from 85 Gbps (router wifi) to 40 Gbps (Mi Repeater). Also, I did the same test very close to the router where I expected the repeater to be of no advantage. But I was surprised to find the Mi Repeater to eve halve the connection speed. Do anyone have any explanation of this ?

damn your videos are good. xiaomi SHOULD pay you to advertise their products because they suck at doing it. are you really coming back this time? i have so many questions about xiaomi lately and i can't seem to find answers like...
1) what is Mi LED SMART bulb that appears in the mi app? it looks like a yeelight bulb but it's not?
2) why is aqara's new vibration sensor so USELESS in terms of automation?
3) should i buy the Aqara's new gateway if i don't use homekit?
4) what is the difference between Mi Universal Remote and IMI Remote in the mi app? the Mi Universal remote is in Chinese and it seems like Xiaomi couldn't care less to translate it.

1. I know what you mean, but I haven't seen that product either. There's a few of those 'mystery products' in the App at the moment. I guess they will come out soon, maybe?
2. I am doing a video on that one in the next 14 days, it is very limited but it just does what it needs to do I guess: "do something when vibrations are detected".
3. If you don't use homekit and want to keep on using your Mi / Aqara products you probably have no need for their gateway. Unless you want to pair devices to the Aqara gateway and use the Aqara APP (for some reason?). I could not get it working with Alexa right now, although it 'should be working'.. will cover that soon as well.
4. The IMI remote is a mystery to me. I have always had it set up with the "Mi universal remote" one, so I have no clue what the difference is. (Perhaps an internationally issues version vs. a local Chinese one?)

Yeah most of the Xiaomi smart home devices connect to 2.4 GHz only with the exception of just a few products.
