This is the best instructional video among all the dozens of internet videos I have watched! Clear demonstration of where to position the fingers and a clear audio demo of what it should sound like. I've just subscribed and am going to check all the other videos he has!
Good video. When I first started playing I taught myself all the basic barre chords, maj, minor, 7th, minor 7th, etc. It was so much easier than trying to sort out the open fingerings and much easier to remember for different keys.
Hint for all those who have trouble with the 9'th (@ 2:50) put your ring-finger on the G string and use your little finger on the B and E string. Depending on the size of your hands and your strength it might make things more comfortable :)
As soon as you strummed the first few chords in this video I heard a song that I love. I Only Have Eyes For You - The Art Garfunkel version. Thank you TrueFire.
It would be great if these videos taught which intervals of the chord are being played by each finger and if these chords were demonstrated in context with other chords
Great video! Your link to the chord chart pdf is broken. Thinking about buying the big 80 chord book but want to see an example of what they look like first.
Many thanks, been searching for "blues guitar learn play" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Wanichael Corylexander Equalizer - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my buddy got great success with it.
Excuse me... I'm still learning to play music I want to ask, since there is no major or minor in all of these chords, can I use it like using power chord??
5th string Dmin9 - Simply Red 'Holding Back The Years'. Instantly recognizable start. Good lesson. Love that strat - very clean, sweet sounding with volume way up on the neck PUP. Nice.
Reminder : With the right Chord Book, you'll find that you can change the voicings to better suit the sound you're looking for, and also make it a bit easier to adjust your hand so you're not struggling to make the chord. Hands come in different sizes, right? Nothing worse than becoming frustrated and giving up.
LSR roller nut. For about 15 years the top model regular production Stratocaster used roller nuts. Strat Plus from 87 to 97 then the Deluxe Strat from 97 to mid 2000s.
In the video you show barring at the 3rd fret but the diagram shows the second fret. Why is that? I saw a similar inconsistency on the 10 Rock chord video. Thanks
+jguke I'm not sure he'll reply - but I think I can answer your Question- The guitar chord grid he uses in the diagram basically covers the first 5 frets. The red note in the chord shapes denote either root 6th or root 5th string chord shape, the root tells you the root name of the chord. The diagram is basically showing you the shape of the chord so it really doesn't matter what fret he's on. He just wants you to remember the shape. Memorize your root notes and you'll know chord -for example, in the video the first chord he shows is G7 chord since it's on the 3rd fret- In reality though the diagram shows an F#7 chord since the diagrams on the 2nd fret. He's showing the chords movability! All the other chords he shows follows this same concept!
+jguke Keith is exactly right! The root note can be moved anywhere so just showing it where it works on the diagram. Sorry that was confusing, but I think you got it now.
it kinda is since he is playing a flat 7 and the 13th note of the g major scale wich would technically make it a gdom7add13 i think he calls it a 13th chord to prevent further confusion^^
When the 13th designation is used, the 7th is implied. So yes, it is a 7 chord, with a 13th extension. But it's just called a 13. If that same extension was used without a 7th, it would be called a 6 chord. Any extension above the octave (i.e., 9-13) implies a 7, unless it says "add"
Absolutely confused now. I just wish there was a way to figure out where your fingers go to form a chord shape without knowing the 17th root of the 35th interval of the 7th level of the diminished 45th element of the periodic table over a 7 chord all in A & D minor of course.
João Jóia Paulo think it’s a USA Professional strat w H-S-S pickup. Humbucker may be a Shawbucker. The roller nut is aftermarket. Great way to stay in tune
It would be helpful (to me, at least) if you would arpeggiate the chords once your fingers are in place so we could more easily see where you're placing the differentiating note(s.) I don't play in standard tuning, therefore the sound profile is more relevant to me than the fingering!
Are these kind of guitar instructors lonely or something? Why are they always making up words and phrases to make them sound like some kind of science teacher when they're supposed to be teaching guitar. Truly just sounds like hes overcompensating for something...

This is amazing. Those alternate voicings are making my head explode in a good way.
Thanks, TF!

Thanks , that was starting to hurt. Now I've got it!
Your chord series are amazing. No BS. Thanks a lot man.
Nice. I knew a lot of this but it's nice to see it together. Thanks.
Thanks for the sensible teaching and spending your time. Easy and applicable w/o confusion. Practice makes perfect my friends.
That C minor 7 is the first chord played in "Who's that Lady " by the Isley Brothers. Good stuff.
Fantastic, simple, and to the point.. Thank you for making the penny drop!
Hugely helpful. Great lesson eloquently delivered. Thank you.
As soon as you strummed the first few chords in this video I heard a song that I love. I Only Have Eyes For You - The Art Garfunkel version. Thank you TrueFire.
Very clear language, good intonation both voice and guitar!

tenodogblu A really interesting lesson that would have been superb with the "Right view camera angle!". Kushty Bok
Ridiculously good video!
Wew, nothing I didn't already know, :-) Thanks for posting
Great video! Your link to the chord chart pdf is broken. Thinking about buying the big 80 chord book but want to see an example of what they look like first.
Knew most of these, It's just most of the time I struggle to connect them. Clear video though thumbs up!
Knowledge is power

Nice instruction, thanks! say, the link for the 'free chord chart' seems to be out of whack....
Its about time someone knows how to give a demonstration properly with intelligence and finesse! Just breatheeeeeee!!!
I like this dude. In fact, I want to have a beer and jam with this dude.
WOUAHHHH Tant de paroles !!!!
Woah.

Great looking guitar
tokio rain yea I’d like to know what model and color it is. You wouldn’t know would you

Does anyone know what nut his guitar has. It looks like it might have some screws in it, maybe to adjust the height.
looks to be a roller nut.
LSR roller nut. For about 15 years the top model regular production Stratocaster used roller nuts. Strat Plus from 87 to 97 then the Deluxe Strat from 97 to mid 2000s.

+Keith Davis Thanks! I wondered if that might be the explanation. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Great explanation!
+jguke Keith is exactly right! The root note can be moved anywhere so just showing it where it works on the diagram. Sorry that was confusing, but I think you got it now.
13th chord with root on the 6th string is easier to voice with the thumb over!😊
right on
Isn’t the chord at 5:49 the 13th I’ve always thought that was a 7 chord is it not?
it kinda is since he is playing a flat 7 and the 13th note of the g major scale wich would technically make it a gdom7add13 i think he calls it a 13th chord to prevent further confusion^^

the 9th at 7:35 without the pinky is a minor 7 flat 5
Right, and it's also called half diminish without the pinky
BrendonGS it's all about the context 😁
Is that more of a jazz chord ?
There are a couple of chords I haven’t used and they sound very bluesy. Too bad the link for the chord chart doesn’t exist.
What is your name ? Thanks for putting these chord charts together.
tweed guitar His name is Clark Kent.
Absolutely confused now.

sounds more like jazz chords to me
it's a strat... but with a metal nut... and a humbucker?... what guitar is that?
João Jóia Paulo think it’s a USA Professional strat w H-S-S pickup. Humbucker may be a Shawbucker. The roller nut is aftermarket. Great way to stay in tune
It’s a completely factory stock Deluxe Stratocaster from the early 2000s. HSS came with LSR nut and no string trees, SSS came with normal nut.
Hhhhwhere
7:14 Stormy Monday
tuesdays just as bad
@@AshWont Lord, and Wednesday's worse
Thursday’s oh so sad
Is that a custom made strat .
No, it’s a Deluxe Stratocaster, from around early 2000s maybe later. It was the top production model at the time.
@@EdwardT9 I love it
The fact that the tabs are on different frets than he is playing it is bugging me. But great
The chords are movable, so it doesn’t matter.
A bit confusing as the fret position in the diagram doesn’t always reflect the fret position he is playing in the video otherwise great!
Doesn’t matter if there the same bc there is no open strings
It would be helpful (to me, at least) if you would arpeggiate the chords once your fingers are in place so we could more easily see where you're placing the differentiating note(s.) I don't play in standard tuning, therefore the sound profile is more relevant to me than the fingering!
needs someone to say "weeeelllll" then it'll sound more bluesy lol
He didn't play them as a chord progression because they DONT work
In what way?
Are these kind of guitar instructors lonely or something? Why are they always making up words and phrases to make them sound like some kind of science teacher when they're supposed to be teaching guitar. Truly just sounds like hes overcompensating for something...
Negative
DJ Merck be grateful for these free lessons
Go watch Jens Larsen if you really want to learn something then....
@@EdwardT9 any certain video of his?
Too much talk
Then don't watch stupid
