    Over the years, I’ve used a few different big name tents… But my benchmark will always be the classic Eureka! Timberline, a tent I sat out a big thunderstorm with high winds once. It kept us dry, but we were treated to the sounds of close lightning strikes and big branches coming down. Funny story…my camping buddy said “it’s not gonna rain…” right about then, a single drop landed on his head, lol…then all hell broke loose. But, the Timberline performed brilliantly in a situation that went from zero to white knuckle pretty fast.

    I too tested this tent at home in a rain storm. I thought it was just the wind that had blown raindrops through the vent mesh. I only got water on the mesh body, not the floor. Will have to consider seem seal around the vents then.... Thanks for awesome channel. Keep it up 👍

    I have the 3f ul Lanshan 2. It was reccomended to me to seam seal the areas where the guy lines attach to the rainfly and the areas where the trekking poles seat. Not sure why lanshan does this but I went ahead and seam sealed it and have had zero issues. Best tent I own for 3 Season. The company also has the lanshan 2 Pro that either comes without seam sealing and you have to do the entire tent yourself or the company will do it for you at a cost which I find odd. Otherwise great tent. Hope this helps whomever it may concern

    This feels like it needs a response from 3fulgear or another go with another tent. I think I would have to check that all their tents are not seam sealed around the vents unless they have already confirmed this as it had a hole as well. It clearly states all seams have been taped on their website. Could this have slipped the quality control?

    After watching Lukes's review, I did reseal the entire outside of my tent with Seam Grip including around the vents, my tent like Lukes's tent did NOT have seam tape along the seams about the vents, so I resealed the seams inside and out. I found issues around the vents with h2o leakage however mine was not as bad for some reason. I did send the company a note about the issue as well, and they have not responded to me on the issue either, but like I say I love the tent and the functionality. I did find some transparent tent patch any holes I get in the tent...Since I also purchased the 4-season inner I am going to make sure all the seams on the inner are coated. Luke does an excellent job and I for one really appreciate his time and efforts for all of us.

    I own this tent, had it out a few times successfully, but not in any heavy rain. I also picked up the winter inner, but haven't used it. It has more fabric, with mesh at the top for ventilation. There are some mods available, to add more guylines and make it more secure in high gusty wind conditions. But it came factory seam sealed, so I could seam seal it in those problem areas preemptively😅

    To be fair many very expensive super light tents don't have any seams sealed and you have to seal the whole tent yourself. Fabric to mesh is a very difficult area to heat tape seal so in 5 minutes you could easily seal the seam along the vent area, tents a few years back used to come with a small tube of seam sealant for just this reason.

    I proofed mine as soon as I got it, as I do with every tent and it hasn't leaked yet in 2 years. Mind you, it's only Scottish rain, the sideyways windy type, none of your straight down wet Mercan stuff. I didn't trust the vents however, and cut some scotchbrite pads to fit the shape which ensures the rain doesn't get in that way but still has ventilation.

    Its a good test, but in reality most campers will be in the tent and will be able to do damage control. The water in the tent was not so much and with a dry rag it can be soaked up quickly. Most one layer tents would have had a lot more water from condensation. But nevertheless, no excuses, 2f should make sure that seams are sealed or tell their customers to add more sealent themselves.

    Some people are stating they haven't had any problem with theirs so I wonder if the colour makes a difference. Maybe that grey production line is not doing the sealing properly. Where the others colours get fully seam sealed.
    Peace

      I have one and would still recommend it. Just seam-seal the hell out of it. I assumed everyone did that, and was not surprised at the result. Every tent needs to be seam sealed.

    I would have expected at least one of the clip points would have started leaking, since it has a lot of it, due to the exoskeleton design.

    I don't know what a hydrostatic head rating is but not counting the seams but could they get that "number" from just the fabric? It seems to me that the fabric is "water-proof" but the seams don't seem to be.

    • @tei1337
      @tei1337 Рік тому +1

      Yes, the rating is for the fabric, but of course seams should also be sealed, either with seam sealer, or taped. If they aren't, the rating of the fabric doesn't really matter, you're getting water inside.

    It really seems that tents with large vents on the top don't get seamed as the rest of the fly does. With it not being seamed for all the vent stitching is a huge flaw and oversight for 3FUL.

    If this is just a matter of the seams, might be a bit harsh to full-stop on this tent since seam sealing is a rather painless process. I agree it is a dumb mistake on the companies part but you did mention their were many plusses to this tent .........

    Would like to see go-pro in tent while raining looking at most likely leak spot

  • @uffa00001
    @uffa00001 11 місяців тому

    The problem can be spotted even before the rain. The web site says: "All seams has been taped". I see no tape there. It seems to me that this tent was seam sealed with silicon, and not taped. The seam-sealing with silicon is a boring process that requires care and that users should rather do themselves. This is not the first time that I see people buying the sealing service and complaining that it was not up to par. In this particular case the problem is worse, because by specification the tent should have been taped, which is a much better way to seal the seams for what I know. The inner is PU coated, so that would naturally allow taping the seams. Some manufacturers rely on the nylon to "close itself around the hole" to make the tent quasi-waterproof (also high quality producers such as VauDe if memory serves), but only taping, or sealing, will guarantee waterproofness.

    Silikoniertes Nylon ... Bei 3FUL Lanshan 1/2 Pro wird extra darauf hingewiesen, dass die Nahtversiegelung selbst aufgetragen werden muss. (Und ja, dann sind die dicht.)
    Ich sehe das nicht als wirklich problematisch an. Vor gut 20 Jahren habe ich extrem teure Markenzelte auch erst selbst abdichten müssen, damit sie über Jahre gut funktionierten. 😀
