I have revisited this poem many many many times. And as I get older and it hits a little different each time. Lately I’ve had to slow it down, to .75-.5 speed, and really think critically about not just each line, but each word and there choice and relationship to each other. MASTERFUL

I love this so much. It's speaks of consciousness that we all need to attain. Not just black men, but people of all races and genders. We deserve so much more.
This puts the likes of jay z ,snoop,kanye etc etc to absolute shame.They could never have enough credibility to share a stage with this man and look that audience in the eye
You missed the part where he says, "I would call you female, but you're too frail. While she held Queen you're existence is fractionally vaginal." He is actually saying that Woman are much stronger, "Queens", compared to his subject who is only a fraction ("fractionally vaginal") of a women... Not nearly as strong.
My poems sit on the page. I don't think this style is in me. I don't have enough fuse to burn so much righteous anger for such a long time. I watch these spoken word performances, though, because I can hear and see that if I can put an ounce of this energy into my own stuff, it may not just sit on the page.
I often revisit this poem to keep me grounded and keep perspective .
