Cracking deal on those tanks. I like undergravel filters, I run one in my main display aquarium in reverse from a surface skimmer made from a bit of old down pipe, I'm very classy.
You could make an Anoxic Filter System with a bcb biocenosis basket with that same undergravel filter idea. Although it would be a little more work, it would pack a bigger filtration punch and would be significantly easier maintenance than what your currently doing. Just an idea. 😊
ive always loved the old under gravel filters i still have a few working but why not take out some bio just enough to add a layer off sponge on top and tightly around the top of the filter to spread and slow the flow and as the sponge gets dirty you will see where the water is and isnt flowing just a thought great idea though its giving me a few of my own
Winner winner fish dinner? 🤔😂 What’s the gap from the top of the tank to the shelf? Looks quite narrow. Though I suppose you just need to get a hand and net in.
It is quite narrow, annoyingly so - but the same as all m other rack tanks so I'm used to being annoyed! I can get a hand and arm in and have only trapped myself once, so I call that a win!
Can't u put a perspex lid on the box and have it open on the right hand side and pump water or air lift tube water on the left so water has no choice but to flow through all the media. kind of like an above tank sump, you can get a sponge in there too that way.
Its an interesting idea but you dont need all that media for a tank that size so i would put a layer of media on top of the egg crate then put a sponge on top of that so it deals with mechanical filtration as well. Could even put a fine pad on top of the sponge to really keep the water clean and all you need to do is change the fine pad for maintenance instead of taking out the media and cleaning it. I like the idea of using what you have than spending money but it needs refining a bit.
What do you mean by 'ordinary'? I've never used aquarium silicone before and resealed plenty of tanks. The important thing is to use 100% silicone, with no additives.
Great pickup and ingenious idea modifying that sponge filter to be an under gravel
Thanks 👍
That's one heck of a great deal and I can't wait to see all the different filtration systems you use in each tank. Thanks for sharing Graeme.

Nice 👍
Love the idea, now where is my notepad and pen, time to improvise some similar ideas to my tanks!
Great deal graeme, hopefully more come your way.
I hope so too

I fine pimping any filter interesting. I definitely would enjoy different methods of using the under gravel filter.
👍 smaller media in mesh bags sounds good to me
Great Deal 👍🏼 It looks like the aquariums have a built in air lift in the corner made of glass.
It does! Well spotted! I will be using them!
I can't believe I missed that!!
New tanks look great

@@AquariumAdventures thanks! In the process of actually making plans for my shrimp room so getting ideas ;)

Nice idea, might try that
Nice good idea

I think you're probably right, I'll be tweaking the implementation across the 4 tanks to see what works best.
I’ve re sealed my tank but with ordinary silicone will this be a problem

@@AquariumAdventures ok thank you
I've never used any of these air driven filters. Don't get how they work.
It's really simple and easy to use. Those particular ones he's using are really excellent for modding or DIY filtration.
We all used UG filters in the 70's. I see no reason this won't work. I would remove the bags though.
Yes, will be doing
👍
Even if you have them 6 months and get a batch of angels there soon pay for themselves
Just put a HMF mat filter on the top it. 5cm filter sponge and cut it to size. I made a diy filter just like this shame I can post a picture for you.
I'm going to try different things over the 4 tanks, see what works best. Join the Discord server and share your pics! (Link in description)
