How To Replace Your Delta Single Handle Faucet Cartridge

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- In this video I show you how to replace a leaking valve or repair a valve that makes a squeaking or grinding noise. Minimum tools required and easy to do. This project will save you 200+ from buying a new faucet.
Parts:
Delta RP50587 Singe handle valve cartridge $32
Silicone faucet grease $4
Tools:
adjustable wrench
razor blade
1/8 allen key
small flat blade screwdriver
THANK YOU!! I DID IT!! 😄 I absolutely could not have done this without you!! I watched the video throughout the procedure and everything worked. The only difference is that the part is now $40. Ha!! I did not have to call a plumber, so I am happy!! I read the part was good for 5 years, so don't know about the lifetime warranty. But it's fixed, and I didn't have to wait on something to be delivered.
That’s awesome my friend. I’m glad I could help. They would still hot or the warranty. No questions asked. I was in the same boat, I didn’t want to wait for it in the mail. But you can call now and get one for the future. Thanks again for the support.
Yes, thank you! 5 minute job
Good deal, glad to help. Thanks for the feedback.
If you call Delta they will replace the cartridge for NOTHING.
Your correct brother. I needed it right away and didn’t want to wait for it in the mail.
That’s what I did
You made it clear enough for this 75 YO grandmother to change the cartridge in under 15 minutes. The hardest part was getting down and up to get to the water shut off valves. Thank you!!
I’m extremely happy that I could help. Always keep on doing things and keep your mind going. I miss my grandparents and I feel honored that the video could help you. God bless
I usually just turn off the main line. That way I don’t have to finagle my way under the sink.
@golluj sounds good to me brother.
Delta faucets come with a lifetime warranty - if you can wait for a week they'll send you the part for free!
Yes sir. I just had to do the job and couldn’t wait for a new one to arrive. But I’ve been telling everyone on here the exact same thing as you. Thanks for the info otherwise my friend.
For the Ashton model like this one, call Delta, lifetime warranty. Stopper sink so you don't lose parts. The little orange slider on the cartridge adjusts hot water flow/anti scald. I want mine wide open for all the hot water I can get via handle adjustment. I bet many blame the water heater, when that valve is the culprit. BTW - that's why Delta went from the ball to the cartridge!
Good info brother thanks for the feedback. Perfect name too lol.
Single clearest instructional video I’ve ever watched.
@@sabrastein2614 I truly appreciate the feedback my friend.
What is the small sliding orange tab do please?
It limits the hot water so you don’t burn yourself. It’s an anti scalding device.
Excellent video. On my install the orange gasket kept falling off the cartridge so I put some coconut oil on it to hold it while I installed it. This desugn is a huge step backward for delta their old faucets were easy to rebuild and the kits cost $5 while this cartridge cost me $40! Thanks for the video!
Glad to help and thanks for the tip. You could have had delta replace it under warranty. I had to do mine sooner than later and didn’t want to wait for the replacement. I find everything was made better in the past than now a days.
Great video also this part RP50587 is Backed by Delta Faucet's Lifetime Limited Warranty. Keep your HD receipt
I never thought of saving the receipt. I know that their life time warranty is awesome. I didn’t want to wait for the part so I just bought it brother. But next time I will definitely give them a call first. Thanks for the tip my friend.
@@MrV2u Anytime my friend. Took advantage of this for my daughter. Many warranties are out there for the asking. Stay well. Vino.
Thank you for this video. We had the problem of the delta single handle kitchen faucet just leaking and leaking and very difficult to turn it off. Purchased the part online anf followed your video and all is well with the kitchen faucet. Thank you again.
@@shenaycrawford8701 I’m so glad it worked out for you guys. Enjoy that leak free water faucet. You could have called delta and had them send you a free cartridge as well. Thanks for the feedback.
Back in the day Delta kitchen faucets where cheap to fix the kit was two springs and rubber seats for a few dollars. Now like every thing else corporate greed wants to empty your wallet
You find the greed in so many places now brother. I find it best to do your own work and save your hard earned money.
Very helpful. quick and without a lot of verbal BS. Thanks
My pleasure Chris, glad to help when possible without all the fuss.
Greese the threads even on a new one saves headaches when taking apart later.
Great idea brother. Off camera I did add a dab of never seize afterwards.
Thank you very much for your excellent well-instructed video , good job .
Your very welcome my friend. Thanks for the feedback.
Excellent video, straight to the point, I got back up and running in under ten minutes, thanks!
Your very welcome brother. Thanks for the feedback, glad I could help.
Excellent step by step directions with excellent "be careful" advice. THANK YOU MrV2u!
Glad to have helped Jerry. Thanks for the awesome feedback.
I would add that once you clean the inner threads at the bottom of the brass coloured locking tube that holds the cartridge in place with a stiff toothbrush and vinegar, then lube those inner threads with food grade silicone grease if you have, or just as good is a good coating with olive oil. And when you tighten that locking tube with a wrench, very little torque is needed. Just lightly snug is all you need.
Very good info brother. Thanks for the tip.
I recommend shutting off the water at main valve; under-sink valves are NOTORIOUS for failing since they're used so seldom. Also, I replaced all of my under-sink, toilet, & washing machine valves w/ball valves since they're much more reliable and we generally use all of them for binary functions; on or off. Great video!!!!!
Yeah I made it a habit to cycle each valve at least twice a year. But it’s definitely worthwhile to replace them with ball valves. Thanks for the suggestion brother and also for the feedback.
thank you. I struggled to get the cartridge to unscrew as it was stuck from years of service. Very hard water where I live. Your key about using an adjustable wrench and tapping with a hammer got it free. Sir - Good job!!! Thanks much.
You got it my friend. A lil love with the hammer never fails. Thanks for the feedback my friend and glad it worked out for you.
good video but if you have a delta life time on parts they will send you the part for free
They absolutely would brother. I just wanted it done faster, rather than waiting for delivery.
I priced one of these cartridges and was glad I did not have to buy a new one because the cartridge would have cost 50% of the cost of the Delta faucet I have had for 5 years now. All I had to do was to grease the ball and the seats it rides in with special Plumber's Grease which is available at Lowe's and Home Depot and most hardware stores. Just do not disassemble the cartridge anymore than necessary in order to get to the ball ( which attaches to the handle). More than likely the actual valve is in great shape still. The ball and seats just need to be wiped clean with a paper towel and the special grease applied. I just bought Silicone Plumber's Grease today and it is supposed to be waterproof, which, I hope, means longer lasting.
Great info brother. You could always call delta and have them send you a new one free of charge under their lifetime warranty.
Thanks you very much just completed the job by your perfect instructions 👍
Glad to hear my friend. Thanks for the feedback!
Incredibly helpful. I can do this! Thank you
Yes you can Debbie. If you run into anything let me know. Good luck and knock it out.
Best video I've seen for replacing a Delta cartridge and I've seen plenty! Thank you.
You got it my friend. Thanks for the feedback.
What is the orange switch for? Adjusting temp of mixed water, maybe?
Spot on brother. Yup be way is full hot and cold the other way would be not as hot.
Thank you for the video, it has all the details needed to change out the cartridge. We will save quite a bit of water stopping the drip, a good thing in a drought (about six months after the video was posted, located in DRY California).
Glad to help my friend. Save that hard earned money.
Sir this was absolutely fantastic! Clear and precise. You rock! Thank you!
Thanks my friend. Thanks for the feedback. I try to be fast and to the point showing all that’s needed.
This is a wonderfully made tutorial. It helped my amazing son fix our kitchen sink without having to spend money on a plumber.
I’m glad to have helped. Thanks for the awesome feedback. Let me know if you have any further questions.
No need to buy the Delta part. I just called Delta, told them the problem and faucet model #, and they are sending the valve to me for free.
Apparently they really do provide a lifetime warranty with no games. No need to show original receipt etc. Very easy!
Your correct brother. I didn’t want to wait for it to come in the mail, they do have excellent customer service. They honor their warranty’s with no questions asked. Great company.
Thank YOu, VERY helpful
You got it my friend. Thanks for the feedback.
Clear and to the point. Used Delta part and walk/talk thru entire process. Right on.
Glad to have helped brother. I try my best to do so. Thanks for the feedback.
In most cases Delta will provide you with a free replacement part. If you have have to buy it, please buy the original Delta part.
Yes sir, I didn’t want to wait for delta to send me one. The part I got was an original Delta part.
Thank you for showing the step of putting back on the handle. That little detail cost me a lot of time!
Thanks for the feedback, I try to show as much as possible to make it easier for first timers. Let me know if you ever have any questions, I’m always around for advice.
Thank you this helped tremendously!
I’m glad to have helped you my friend.
Thanks, completely relieved my anxiety over attempting to replace the cartridge. Took 10-15 max minutes after watching the video. Great job & thank you.

Glad to help brother. Thanks for the feedback.
Something went right, thanks for your video.
Your very welcome Patricia. Thanks for the feedback.
Good video, but the one thing I would add is that instead of getting the part from home depot, just call Delta. Their items are guaranteed for life. I called them, told them the faucet was leaking, they asked for the model number, etc... and sent me a new on the in the mail for free. Arrived 3 days after I called. They also sent me a new head because it wasn't functioning as well as it should either. No receipts needed... just asked when I purchased it and the model number. I didn't know my model number as I got my faucet in 2012, so Just just google and found it on the internet, wrote it down, then called them. Viola! Thanks for the tutorial though!
Your correct my friend, but I was in a rush to get it done. Their lifetime warranty is outstanding. No questions asked what so ever. Glad I could help you my brother. Thanks for the feedback as well.
Thank you so much! I did it and the hardest part was finding the hot water shut off valve hidden behind the garbage disposal, lol! I'm going to call delta for my free warranty replacement cartridge, this faucet is only 2 years old, if that. Thanks again!😄
Glad to hear. Definitely call them, they don’t question anything and will have one shipped out in no time. Thanks for the feedback.
At what point do you grease it? And how? That’s what I came here for. Excellent video! Tell your daughter great job videoing!
Much appreciated, at 8:02 I show you where to put grease. If you do this and it still doesn’t work contact Delta and have them send you out a replacement for free. Let me know how you make out. Good luck Laura.
I took old Cartridge Home Depot Beacon Hill Calgary Canada and they replaced with New FREE.
Good information brother. I know you could always call delta for free replacements. I’ve never tried bribing it back to Home Depot directly. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you, MrV2u! This gave my sweet husband the gumption to do this, even with a slightly leaky hot-water shut off. It didn't take much longer than the length of the video. You're a good guy!
I truly appreciate the feedback. I try to be thorough and to the point. Glad it worked out for you my friend.
Thanks for the great video! However…I’m having a hard time replacing the set screw. Goes in fine and I can see the stem but it doesn’t seem to touch the stem. Similar faucet as in your video.
Do you have any calcium or grit that doesn’t allow the set screw to sit flush? Soak it in vinegar along with the handle for a it and try again. Let me know if that works.
Have you ever had a handle that would not come off the cartridge even after completely removing the set screw? Im having that issue and i need to get to the cartridge as its leaking a bit.
Use the small straw that comes with the pb blaster or wd40 and spray some under the handle. Spray some into the set screw hole too. There is room, gently rock the handle back and forth. You’ll be able to work it out.
Thanks a bunch, huge help! I know these are fairly simple but I wasn’t sure about what part was needed. This is easy enough that I can do this as long as I have the part but fortunately I have a guy here that’s good at this kind of thing and I’m just his researcher.😉
Always good to do your research. He’s lucky to have a great researcher. Let me know how you guys make out and thanks for the feedback.
Thanks so much for this--i also was able to fix my sink that has been driving me crazy for months. QUick tip-if you have a delta faucet you may be able to call them and have them send you a free cartridge as they have a life time warranty.
Thanks for the feedback my friend. I’m glad I could help and your correct with the lifetime warranty.

Be aware that this part has a Lifetime Warranty. If you send Delta a copy of your faucet sales slip and Owner’s Manual, they will send you the replacement part. My son just replaced mine with the part Delta sent to me. $0.00 😃
You are correct sir. I just needed to replace it sooner than later. Thanks for the info.
Wow - this is the exact video I needed. Replaced the cartridge in 10 minutes for $0 in labor. Thanks!
Sounds like a great price to me lol. Glad to have helped out brother.
Thank you! I managed to replace cartridge without a plumbing catastrophe.
Always a great thing when it all comes together. Thanks for the feedback my friend.

MrV2u now if you would post a video on how to replace a basic toilet I would be all set. Thank you again for your great teaching! You're a natural!! Plus I can tell you like lions. I'm a Leo ♌️
@@josborn9653 that’s not a bad job brother. I’ll keep the video suggestion in mind. What’s wrong with your toilet? Sometimes you can fix certain things rather than completely swap it out. Unless you want a new style or something different.
@@MrV2u It’s 53 years old and does work ok. But the sub floor around the base is weathered and has dry rot. So I thought I would just replace the toilet with a new one nothing fancy and when I try putting down some new particle board sub floor. The chrome part in mine is not sitting flush and I can't tighten it now. May have to buy another faucet tomorrow
Take a brass brush and clean the threads out with some vinegar. You probably have some grit on there or maybe you cross threaded it.

the adjustable wrench is used a certain way when he loostened his wrench was backward tightening was correct. it makes a big differance same using pliers youll bust your knuckles or round off nuts just a little wrenching 101 very basic just a suggestion

Thanks. Good, clear video. Enjoyed the narration and the tattoos.
You got it my friend. Glad the video could help you. Thanks for the feedback.
Called Delta and they sent a new cartridge since they have a lifetime warranty as long as you are the first owner.
Absolutely brother, good company for sure.
I am having problem trying to remove the screw with an Allen wrench in the handle. The screw are way too tight. I have tried using WD40 to lime away. Yet it’s still not coming off…. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks
You can try and get some heat on it with a small torch. If not then your going to need to drill it out with a small bit and then try to get an extractor on it. Wonderful instructions. Thanks so much
My pleasure Laura. Hope it worked out well for you.
Why you not mention what the little orange switch is for???
The orange switch allows you to choose between "Cold & Hot" or "Cold & Warm". Some people don't want to have very hot water, so this switch limits the movement of the handle, not allowing it to move all the way into the Hot position. Hope this helps.
Followed the instructions and fixed ours! Thanks a lot for this helpful video. I would be charged a lot if I called plumber!
I truly appreciate the feedback, have a great Christmas.
You too!
set screw won't come off. soaked in vinegar for days, penetrating fluid, ATF, nothing works. torqued the allen wrench, now it's stripped. how to fix now?
Your going to need to drill it out with a small bit and then try to get an extractor on it. I would definitely reach out to Delta and explain the situation and they may just send you a new unit under warranty. They have a great lifetime warranty. Let me know how you make out brother.
@@MrV2u that set screw is so tight I'm afraid of breaking extractor off. maybe better to just drill it out completely and replace handle. I contacted Delta, they said stripping the set screw was not covered under warr, but they would send replacement handle as goodwill gesture. that's nice of them, seeing how the handle lists at an eye-watering $86.
@@halleffect1 just start with a small bit and work your way up. You can also try a reverse bit and it might break it loose faster. I hope the handle comes with the set screw as well.
Thank you so much for taking your time to make this video
Your very welcome my friend. Thanks for the feedback.
These valves only last two years and after that leak water, they no good
Had mine for 4 plus years. Good thing they have life time warranty. Which they honor no questions asked.
Quick tip to everyone with this Delta cartridge: A "certain home improvement store" that is based in blue color out of Mooresville NC sells a 3rd party brand for $22.98 as I had to buy one last night & it fits and works perfect on my Delta single handle faucet.
Does anyone know if adding the grease like the person did in this video will stop the leaking (slow dripping) from the faucet head? I had water dripping down the lines under the sink as well, so I just bought a new cartridge to see if it would work and I got very lucky that it stopped the leak. I can't see how that would work, but I'd like to save $24 like the next person.
Better tip is call delta and get the part for free. They have lifetime parts warranty brother. The grease does absolutely nothing for leaks. It’s to protect the surface of the faucet and keep things more or less moving freely.
@@MrV2u That's great advice. Thx, but I'm married to a woman who wants water out of her faucet ASAP. Can't hurt to get a backup replaced for free though.
@@TB-lv2rh lmao I hear you brother. That’s the only reason I bought mine instead of waited a couple extra days for it to come in the mail. But they do put it out fast. Very good company for warranty parts.

well done! Clear, and really a replacement valve work.
I’m glad I could help you brother. Thanks for the feedback.
Are there seats and springs on these? Or are they inside the cartridge?
I believe they are all internal brother.
I put the new cartfride in because the old one would not shut off. Now it will shut off but only if I close the hand from the cold side. If I shut it off from the hot side I get a trickle that wont stop. I have to turn the faucet back on then turn it off from the cold side before it will stop. Any ideas?
Seems to me that you got a bad cartridge brother. I’ve seen it happen more than once. If you call delta they will send you a new one for free under their lifetime guarantee.
