A lot of people who were down at Freaknik like Politicians, Athletes, Educators, and Pastors probably had some good lawyers and that's probably why it got water down.
I’m glad I’m a millennial bc I had so much fun as a kid. There were so many spaces for kids back then. I loved it. I make my nieces and nephews now watch our old shows and we play games they never heard of. I also make them write in cursive and sign their names lol😂! We watched The Last Dragon and they ate that up. Now they talking about what we watching next lol! Train up your children to watch greatness 😂
As a GA native this was part of our culture. The people who they interviewed like Rasheeda, 21, there were alot of more people they couldve interviewd. It didn't live up to the hype. I was a kid at that time but they had events like celebrity basketball games, step shows, and other events that were geared toward families that we could attend during the day until it got "bad" and became dangerous.
I was at Freaknik in 94. My friends and I was in ATL for another reason and decided to pull up. We never made it out the parking lot. Never got out the car. It was nothing but weed, alcohol and sexual assault going on. We was like hell no!
This documentary was a disappointment. They didn't even go deep into the assaults that was happening..and that why they had to shut it down. I went there in 97 and 98. I was appalled and disgusted with so much I never went back
It was ok but definitely over-hyped. But what I was trying to out was why was 21 Savage in it? 😂😂😂 I guess because he threw a Freak-nik themed birthday party Hulu wanted to include him... I guess 🤷🏾♀️ Edit: Ok I just finished your video Ashley and I see you had the same thought as me lol
I wanted to go to Alabama A&M so bad back in the day--the HBCU didnt even have my major but that college tour had me wanting to be in the STREETS...unfortunately i couldnt afford it and took my ass straight to the CC in my small town who awarded me a minority/merit scholarship. Blessing in disguise....
I knew I liked you for many reasons! Our son did undergraduate at a HBCU in the south but ended up getting his PHD at DePaul and is now a professor at UIUC. 😆
I went to an HBCU for undergrad and they were the best years of my life. I later went to a PWI for grad school, so I feel like I got the best of both worlds.
South Carolina had Black Bikers Weekend and that was thier version of "Freakin".....and that was something else. They started changing laws in Mrytle Beach behind it. You could get fined for wearing string bikinis.
Great video! Why did I immediately know the tea on your school, and I’m from Cleveland. We don’t have nothing fun, anymore. When I was a kid I wanted to go to Spring Bling so bad. Ugh!
I feel the same I wanted to go to FAMU or Howard sooooo bad. My mom wasn’t having it. So I went to Univeristy of Kansas and then graduated from Wichita State PWI AF. Had I not pledged I think I would have hated college.
All I know that I saw a couple people mama and Dads in the documentary 😂😂😂! They did what they did back in the day ( Having Fun ) and wouldn’t change it for nothing lol!!!
I’m from San Francisco and I wanted to go to an HBCU and my dad didn’t want me to leave the state cause of the out of state fees! I didn’t apply to one school in California 😂😂😂 my daddy was pissed! But long story short …. Thanks to moms, I went to Clark Atlanta University CAU❤
I never got to go. My family would have been looking at me sideways. I know not everyone was into the debauchery. I heard it was lit from friends that did go.
And the traffic being so bad that they literally turned highway 85 I think into a parking lot 😮! I remember when they tried to bring it back in the early 00’s I went out there. Bad. Horrible idea! Never again. 😂
I wish they’d leave somethings to “you had to be there.”
I appreciated the history, but I was shocked that they didn’t interview more people who were there
A lot of people who were down at Freaknik like Politicians, Athletes, Educators, and Pastors probably had some good lawyers and that's probably why it got water down.
It got watered down because the mayor ran with a campaign promise to end it
Exactly

It was the episode of Tia and Tamera going to freaknik for me lol
Same!! I was waiting to see if anyone else remembered that episode lmao
@@QueenNTheMaking yup surely did lol I’m like not the twins at Freaknik and Tia was almost the one that was out there Wildin lol
I went 91, 92, and 93, and it's one of those things you had to have been there.

I asked my mom did she participate…. She said she was in Rumpshaker video for a few seconds 😂
Love it !!! We had it good
Get them to watch jet Jackson
All the lawsuits I heard about when it was announced they probably got A LOT taken out the recording
That's how I felt about Bike Week in Myrtle Beach 😂😂😂😂
This documentary was a disappointment. They didn't even go deep into the assaults that was happening..and that why they had to shut it down. I went there in 97 and 98. I was appalled and disgusted with so much I never went back
it's like they trying to get people to forget about that and rewrite history.
Everything they told was stuff we already knew.
Hulu can’t do documentaries right. I was bored.
I fell asleep on it
My aunties STILL use Pump It Up!
Freaknik days = Generation X Era.
And older millennials. Millennials are over 40.
emancipation of mimi is my shtt!
I will say I’m disappointed but I’m thinking some folks with power got in front of it
Yes, indeed, Jemaine came through 100% and still today I play those albums/CD😅💯💯💯💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

I hate when parents hold their children back and stifle them from life experiences. They do a disservice to them.
How is being a pass around a great life experience?
I knew I liked you for many reasons! Our son did undergraduate at a HBCU in the south but ended up getting his PHD at DePaul and is now a professor at UIUC. 😆
TBH, freaknik is equivalent to HBCU homecomings. Shit gets crazy.
I went to an HBCU for undergrad and they were the best years of my life. I later went to a PWI for grad school, so I feel like I got the best of both worlds.

Can't wait for the record collection. Yes love mariah
It was very boring. I can't believe they hyped us up for this watered down version of a freaknik documentary 😕
I thought it was just alright. It was hyped up for no reason imo.
Everybody was getting their freak on at the Freaknik
Okay I thought I was the only one who was underwhelmed with this.
My anxiety was through the roof before it aired and now that it aired in like … ok
Much ado about nothing. It was ok. Good background. Seems like it got nastier once Luke got involved.
Yeah once it stopped being just a college get together it got worse.
Great video! Why did I immediately know the tea on your school, and I’m from Cleveland. We don’t have nothing fun, anymore. When I was a kid I wanted to go to Spring Bling so bad. Ugh!
Soon as you mentioned that magnet school I said ROBERT lmao
I feel the same I wanted to go to FAMU or Howard sooooo bad. My mom wasn’t having it. So I went to Univeristy of Kansas and then graduated from Wichita State PWI AF. Had I not pledged I think I would have hated college.
This might be dark, but I’d love a movie corner for Precious.
It started in 1983
I was 2😂😂😂

WE NEED HIGH SCHOOL STORIES ASH!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesssssss swishy suits lol😂
Gramblin state was it for me.. Got pregnant after i got a full ride not only for cramping but for law school as well.. Talking about crying baby!!
The documentary was cool, but it seemed incomplete. Like they scrapped some of the footage.
How disappointing. Why are things soooo lackluster and surface level these days? 😒
I never got to go. My family would have been looking at me sideways. I know not everyone was into the debauchery. I heard it was lit from friends that did go.
I enjoyed the documentary
MTV documentary about the freaknik was better
Are you talking about True Life: I’m going to Freaknik? If so, yeah I would say that was way better than what Hulu produced.
@@baggergurl16 yes
It was cute documentary.
Your college story is similar to mine.
WHY WAS 21 SAVAGE APART OF THIS???
Yea they didn’t go deep enough and I’m not sure why. It’s not a complete documentary at all.
I was disappointed, there was nothing new learned. The outrage maybe the reason for that!
And the traffic being so bad that they literally turned highway 85 I think into a parking lot 😮! I remember when they tried to bring it back in the early 00’s I went out there. Bad. Horrible idea! Never again. 😂
'80s babies? YOUNGIN'S!!
