    I think you should put the title of your book in the video somewhere possibly in the lower corner. Show a picture of the cover when you talk about the cover. Most importantly have a link to where to buy the book and the trailer for it as your first link when people scroll down. I was surprised you put the book trailer last. The fact that I struggled finding your book or link to it means other people may have the same issue. Other than that awesome video. It was informative and insighful.

    I'm 20 and I'm a new one to write my own supernatural book. It took me 4 months to write a complete novel but still worried about my progress. I haven't published it yet and I'm worried about my book trailer. You know a lot of new authors want to get famous also do I. I'M NERVOUS. But I'm wishing and hoping that someday you gonna love and enjoy my book too.

    I have been methodically writing for for quite some time, but because of the cost versus profit ratio, I have been a bit nervous to try my hands at self-publishing my literature. Hearing testimonies of the pros and cons on both sides of the fence, sadly, has made me hesitant. I am sure that you have found self-publishing rewarding in many ways, however, have you found self-publishing financially profitable? Wonderful video you have here. Thanks.

  • @epiclesisconsultingllc3008
    @epiclesisconsultingllc3008 9 років тому

    It's nice to see a video that talks about the many costs that people don't anticipate. I suggest, however, that authors budget higher than this video suggests for professional editing. I'm glad she was able to find a company that was within her budget, but really, roughly $1500 total for structural/developmental editing PLUS copyediting is very low, and she didn't mention anything for proofreading after typesetting. I take pride in helping authors make their work the best it can be, and that takes a major investment of time, effort, and expertise. I do give flat-rate estimates, which helps people budget, but some get "sticker shock" when they hear how much it will cost to get a really thorough edit on a manuscript that may need a lot of work.

    What I want to know is did you ever make a profit...from the book itself.

      +Melani Barr The best (and cheapest) ones are called DizzyEmuPublishing com - they got my book on Kindle in a few hours, which included a really good cover design. For $35! I wasn't sure if they got the price wrong but I went for it and they got my book on, so I was happy!!! I've sold a lot of them too :-)

      Dexter Poin Not bad, I have to market and do social media for it to make sure there are sales, but it seems to be doing pretty well :)

      Mandi Lynn Cool. I always want actual writers to have success in this insane business. I have written in about a million genres mostly non fiction, and also publish ghost written stuff. I have written fiction but it is waaaaay more lucrative for me to write non fiction so all of my fiction ideas will never be. I was just trolling around UA-cam laughing at all of the liars (that some of them I know) trying to get people into the self publishing business. I watched your video to see if you were following the weasel template of trying to shyster dumb kids into thinking they can be zillionaires next week in this business. I was happy to finally see a video that was just honest and talked about your personal experiences that you actually did go through. Not some dumb bull crap lies made up in order to lure idiot kids away from affiliate marketing, or taking online surveys, and convince them that they can be expert publishers. I was beginning to lose faith in all humanity! I have good success in non fiction so I stay away from "real writing" because I like money too much! But if I did promote fiction I would promote your book. I stay strictly on amazon. Are you on many of the other platforms?

    • @MandiLynnWrites
      @MandiLynnWrites  9 років тому

      Dexter Poin Thanks :) By platforms do you mean what I do to promote myself and my book?

    • @d3xm3x
      @d3xm3x 9 років тому

      Mandi Lynn Sorry, by platforms I mean where are you selling your book? Is it strictly on your own website or are you using Amazon, Nook, B&N, and so forth? I keep my books on Amazon only right now. And to be honest, I intend on keeping them there only unless I decide to sell on my own platform which I can then sell my books at the prices that I think they should be sold for. Amazon is tough these days as everyone is fighting each other to give their stuff away fro free in order to get people on their lists in order to nickel and dime them all the way home! Amazon is NOT a book store like some people think and hope. It is a search engine that marketers have taken over and rule. This is why I like real writers because they dont know any of this huckster shtuff.

      Dexter Poin My book is sold mainly through Amazon but I also have it in all ebook formats. Book stores, Barnes and Noble, can also order my book, but they will usually only do that if someone requests it.

    Disabling the comments on this video would be a great way to just say "Hey, I can't deal with any sort of criticism or negative comments whatsoever, so I'm going to put my hands on my ears and pretend everything is A-OK." You can reflect on what people say, you don't need to reply back to every single comment or complaint raised against you.
    But in this day and age, making yourself look bad on the internet is a great way for everyone to respect you even less. I say 'even less', because from the comments I've seen, it appears to be split down the middle of 'power to you, best thing since sliced bread, hero worship status' and 'wow this shit sucks'. I don't think either one is necessarily correct, that's just how it seems to be to me.
