    I replaced the motor mounts in a '94 Chevy truck, four wheel drive. I had to remove the front differential and axles to get to them. Good thing I have a lift. That was a real P.I.A.!

    I use to do those kind of jobs, not anymore, too old for that crap. I change oil, starter, alternator, and that is about it. I don't even change plugs anymore, depending on vehicle. Nice job Kenny

    i remember changing a struct for my 1980 Toyota Celica in Adult education auto mechanic evening class that took me and another student and instructor 4 hours for only two fronts struct. This was in 1988 and it was a lot of works involved.

      Thank you for posting this video. It is amazing to see all of the steps needed to change out these motor mounts. I can only imagine how much more difficult it would be for a shade tree mechanic without your knowledge, skill and access to a chest full of professional mechanics tools. My biggest takeaway is how calm and focused you remained throughout the job. I'll remember that when I'm wrenching.

    Motor Mounts R&R is a job I will always gladly pay my Mechanic to do. .He commented that it is getting harder to find good motor mounts. According to him some last about 6 months before needing R&R. What do you think? BTW, a while back you did videos on OBDII Scan tools. One was the King Bolen. As a result I recently bought a King Bolen S800. I think it resets the world 🙂. So far I'm very happy with it. I have a 98 Sonoma and a 2009 Pt Cruiser. The Cruiser is the Wife's and she likes it because at 4' 11" it is one of the few cars that she can see over the hood and reach the brake and gas pedals. Just in passing, I wish you and yours well and hope you get the best life has to offer. KOKO!

    I was about to say Kenny. I work on enough GMC/Chevy trucks to know all the fender well bolt sizes are 7s. Haven't watched the whole video yet, but you probably should take out that steering columb section too.

    5:05 speaking of, I did an oil change on a ram 1500 and accidentally shorted the dipstick tube to the positive terminal with the dipstick when checking the oil. Learned my lesson then!

    I don't do all this when I swap these out. Believe it or not, it's MUCH easier (especially on 4wd), to just remove the exhaust manifold. My customers usually only want the broken one changed and that's always driver's side. Hope this helps

    WoW! Time on that shows 5.5 left and 6.6 right or 11.3 for both. So it probably needs to be priced out as customer pay for about 13 my opinion. Crazy they didn't give easier access.

    Hi Kenny,I am trying to replace a exhust manifold on my 6.5 2000 chevy one ton 4x4 and its a pita too.Especially when I had a heart by pass 6 weeks ago.Ive had the center bolts of my motor mounts out to lift the motor to replace the rusted out oil pan.They recommend in the manual to have two long poles on each side of the engine and let the lift down to get the engine up enough for clearance,hahaha.Theres no center bold to separate the two halfs of the mount ? How cheap can they make parts..

    About 40 years ago we had an old Eldorado on a lift and it shifted. The old lifts didn't lock the arms in place. That was one of the scariest moments of my life. Everybody scattered like roaches.

    I did the mounts on my 2011 Tahoe on the ground. I used a cherry picker to support my engine. I didn’t modify the mounts. I just put them back like they were originally. I enjoy your videos, but hate the shade tree short cuts. Just my opinion.

    Motor mounts last alot longer if you keep them clean and oil free ! That and heat also degrades them ! Just get in there with a quality engine degreaser once in awhile and reduce the chances of replacing them !

  • @scaryskeleton8403
    @scaryskeleton8403 2 місяці тому

    thats the hard way to do them, you need a long extension with a good cordless impact and you can remove all bolts from the top. then you only need to jack up the side of the motor you are replacing the mount. can be completed in less than 45 minutes.

    Yeah. What I got out of that is there aren’t enough curse words in my vocabulary to try that. And thank goodness I don’t have an extension like that or any of the jack up tools. Nope, not today.

      My 67 Chevelle with the high performance 327 and a 4 speed had a factory installed cable from the exhaust manifold bolts around the upper control arm shaft. A similar tie down would not be hard to fabricate. The Chevelle now has polyurethane interlocking mounts. THAT AINT GOIN NOWHERE

  • @15066bas
    @15066bas 2 місяці тому +1

    It's a lot easier if you separate the bracket from the mont and take them out in two pieces. Rotate them so you could reach in and buzz the nuts on top off, reassemble the same way with the new mount. 2014 and newer are worse, remove manifold heat shields.

      Kenny is a real working mechanic, and can’t waste time videoing everything. He shows more than what is practical, he shows as much as he can without tripling the time to do the job he is being paid to do. You ought to go back to watching Scotty Kilmer videos if you don’t like Kenny. No one is forcing you to watch.
