Glad I found your channel man. I'm a Western Australian looking to do what you've done.

Glad to hear it! Nice, WA has some great nature but one of the worst housing situations, can definitely see why you’d want to escape to the country in this country

What a beautiful spot you've found! We're currently in Japan exploring akiya opportunities, so your insights have been very helpful. Thanks for sharing your experience, we'll be following along on your journey :)

Hi there, thanks and I’m glad it’s useful! Good luck with your akiya search, you should have a look around the Mikawa area of Aichi prefecture too

I'm a bimbo in England though not the typical idea as used over here - I can prove it as well, I'm a bloke! 🤣 Bimbo, for me translates to 'Low Maintenance'
But seriously, my dream IS the mountains of Japan & always has been. Everything else, the culture, the old folks houses, the work involved are the best possible by products I can imagine!
As I've mentioned on a previous video, the language is my main stumbling block. I watch learning Japanese videos but struggle with pronouciation. I'd need an English speaking Japanese person esp re official business. Just downloaded that app, thank you! Still, my face is a 'happy, smiley, helpful, positive' & it knows, number 1, it has to help itself! Re friends/social, I'm a 1:1 type of person & can count my true friends on one & a half hands. My life is music & the woods 👍😊
    Good video!!

Hello fellow bimbo! Haha. Low maintenance is a pretty good fit for the word, but it is useful in Japanese to communicate that we aren't made of money to some people here. That's a pretty good dream to have! But it does help if the dream or goal can make money to go along with all of that, had some reminders recently of how things will be pretty different around here when the ageing population crisis hits more, I think people out here will need to be even more self-sufficient because the cities will have less tax to use. That said, seriously waking up to this view will be worth it for a long time!
Yeah the language is hard, but don't get too down about the pronunciation! Honestly a lot of people here can tell what you're trying to say even if you have some major mistakes. The language is so context-sensitive that you can get away with some pretty strong accents if the situation is clear! For official stuff yeah it's a challenge, I'm honestly wondering if the gov here will get desperate enough to start offering the same kind of interpretation services foreign people can use in Aus (for example), because they need more migrants.

@@AteraInakaLife Thanks for the response - My financial situation lies at the heart of all this - I'm not holding my breath but there maybe changes ahead on top of where I'm at at the moment, house owner, etc, etc + blah blah blah x3! I'm looking towards financial self sufficiency.
I can 'see' myself there, which, for my mind is essential as part of any process. Language, my biggest apparent hurdle is one I'd overcome due to necessity.
Keep well - I'm looking forward to any videos you make. It seems like a great area bar the fact your pretty snowless! Which means you've plenty of spare time to google 'Water, Wood & Wild Things' by Hannah Kirshner - seriously, one of the best books I've come across re outsiders experiences of Japan in the countryside/mountains. She was based at Yamanaka. 👍😊

Yeah it’s unfortunate how often it comes down to money and the language, but at least compared to Aus and probably the UK the cost of living is pretty low so that lets you get stable over a longer time. And thanks! I know her from the Minka Summit 2023 actually, and even with no snow there’s so much to do here that making some mental real estate for searching new things is difficult haha.

@@AteraInakaLife I hope to figure this all out one day - in the meantime I watch countless videos, all saved in my 'Japanese Mountain Roads' folder on my page. Just typed Minka Summit 2023 in the search bar, saved 3 to view later - appreciate it so thank you. 👍😊

It's really good value. 70k is about 2yrs rent in Australia. Rent is dead money.

Too true, I can’t imagine a time where a rental is supposed to be the cheap option you use while saving for a deposit, but seems that’s how it was

how the japanese value houses makes so much more sense than the way it is looked at in the states...an older house should have less value. not more. where i live there are total tear towns for a million dollars.

    • @AteraInakaLife
      @AteraInakaLife  Рік тому

Yeah that kind of thing doesn’t make sense, but I’m guessing it’s just the land’s value has gone up? It used to make more sense here when it cost a lot less to build a house, but now people can easily end up in very bad mortgages in cities.
