God what a jam!... This mix is fantastic. Just listen. Better yet, listen stoned. It's a mix that packs all the nostalgic wonder and heat of the original album version on Change's "The Glow of Love" album but gives us more of the drums, the really cool percussion effects, the sublime keyboard lines, and that super- truckin' rhythm track. I've always thought of "Searching" as one of the epic tracks of early '80s dance music scene. I have danced to it many times and it always sounds killer in a club. This carefully designed mix widens and deepens the sound even more. Also, you can really tell how much Luther was into this track when he sang it. After all these years I still haven't the foggiest what the lyrics are really about (I always assumed it was describing a dream or fantasy of meeting a really hot mystery lover in some exotic or decadent place; guess I'll have to google the lyrics). The lyrics paint a compelling portrait of romantic yearning but I have rarely heard a track where the lyrics matter so little since the track is so bold, so swaggering, so boss...
Hit the town in the cold of the night Looking round for the Warmth of the light There was fog all around So I guess no one saw me arriving I was tired and awake for some time Then my lights hit a welcoming sign It said if you're alone You can make this your home If you want to Owwww Searchin, searchin (for so long) Searchin (searchin) Searchin, searchin (i Just wanted to dance) Searchin Stepped outta the night It was brighter inside Someone come and asked me my name Taken back by surprise What I saw with my eyes A girl in a love's disguise She said stop! stop! stop! Get out your heart Haven't got a lot But play the part Mister stop! stop! stop! Get out your heart What I've got's hot stuff The night is ours Coffee glass that had Fell from my hand Like a child couldn't Quite understand What was I doin' there Far away from nowhere On my own I was tired and awake for some time Just the light playing Tricks with my mind Was she there in a crowd Was the music too loud Was I dreaming Searchin, searchin (for so long) Searchin (i don't want Romance I just want my Chance searchin) Searchin, searchin (yeah) Searchin Just came by here by chance Only wanted to dance, No news, no her, no, no, no one Taken back by surprise What's in front of my eyes This girl in a love's disguise She said stop! stop! stop! Get out your heart Haven't got a lot But play the part Mister stop! stop! stop! Get out your heart What I've got's hot stuff The night is ours
It seems the vocal track is in the perfect mix plan. Much better than the original version which is, in my oppinion, extremely loud, leaving this wonderful instrumental in second plan.
slightly longer sax solo... some mellow keyboards left in over the 'break,' an extra 8 bars of horns... vox never came back in, no chorus at the end. Thanks, but I'll stick w/ my original 12"
I haven't heard this since clubbin' in the 80s. Sweet baby Jesus, in my 20s having the time of my life.
Morceau d'anthologie avec la voix de velour de se grand Monsieur Luther vandros 👍Vive la funk 🇩🇿🇩🇿

Hit the town in the cold of the night
Looking round for the
Warmth of the light
There was fog all around
So I guess no one saw me arriving
I was tired and awake for some time
Then my lights hit a welcoming sign
It said if you're alone
You can make this your home
If you want to
Owwww
Searchin, searchin (for so long)
Searchin (searchin)
Searchin, searchin (i
Just wanted to dance)
Searchin
Stepped outta the night
It was brighter inside
Someone come and asked me my name
Taken back by surprise
What I saw with my eyes
A girl in a love's disguise
She said stop! stop! stop!
Get out your heart
Haven't got a lot
But play the part
Mister stop! stop! stop!
Get out your heart
What I've got's hot stuff
The night is ours
Coffee glass that had
Fell from my hand
Like a child couldn't
Quite understand
What was I doin' there
Far away from nowhere
On my own
I was tired and awake for some time
Just the light playing
Tricks with my mind
Was she there in a crowd
Was the music too loud
Was I dreaming
Searchin, searchin (for so long)
Searchin (i don't want
Romance I just want my
Chance searchin)
Searchin, searchin (yeah)
Searchin
Just came by here by chance
Only wanted to dance,
No news, no her, no, no, no one
Taken back by surprise
What's in front of my eyes
This girl in a love's disguise
She said stop! stop! stop!
Get out your heart
Haven't got a lot
But play the part
Mister stop! stop! stop!
Get out your heart
What I've got's hot stuff
The night is ours
They DON'T KNOW THIS DANCE MUSIC. MARTINA PATRICIA POET GUEST. LOVE.
I bought the LP in 1980 and this was so amazing. Great Remix/Rework
Memories are made of this.........
Y'all should have seen my mom's and my nephew dancing and me singing to this song 🎵 in 1995 . Rip Luther..
