Great interview. Some nice stories from The Smiths days, which is rare, so nice to hear. I was saddened to hear about Andy's death, yet he leaves behind such fantastic and unique basslines which will live long in the minds of those who love them.💙
Andy your a great guy ty for your contribution to good music, morrissey and Marr were so lucky to have you playing, they are amazing but, your bass made the songs more amazing 👍 thank you so much for that
Like all great bass players you don't realise what they bring to the party until they are not there. Andy mentioned Mani a couple of times, Primal Scream are immense, but even immenser (I know that's not a word) when Mani is playing bass, and the Stone Roses would be non existant without his groove. The Smiths sound would simply not exist without Rourke's outstanding playing. I am a bass player though, so am probably biased!
MY GOD. Thank you, thank you, thank you for asking questions about his bass tone. I want to hear more technical info about Andys approach and sound, we need more !!!
Thank you for asking about Hatful Of Hollow. It is sometimes dismissed as a compilation/BBC album, but it's my favourite. Andy Rourke's bass playing is iconic.
But it is a compilation, not a studio album. Pretty great tracklist, yeah. But fair play to people for not counting it among the bands 4 studio LP's. And even more fair play to you for having it as your favorite, no problem in that at all. :) Louder Than Bombs was my first library meeting with this wonderful band, so I know comps can be fantastic.
I had the pleasure to spend some time with this human in a hot tub. We went on about music. A solid human.....he was probably most effected when the singer of the Cranberry's passed. She was my age. Andy had a brilliant bit with her. (Hope I"m not stepping on toes)
Sweet interview! I met Andy in 09'(around the time me and my longtime gf split). He was picking the slice of pizza he wanted at a joint in Manhattan. I said "You were in The Smiths!" He shook my hand and I said,"You're Mike Joyce"..Sorry Andy:-) I'm a songwriter(etc) now.
Just like Lemmy and Bruce Foxton, Andy Rourke was a guitar player first. Therefore they all played bass a bit differently and came up with some odd but really inventive parts. The Smiths continue to be the band of my life.
What a beautiful interview with a beautiful talented man ❤️ Andy you were taken too soon and the world is a sadder place without you 😢
Great to watch this interview. I didn’t realize he wrote the music to Yes, I am Blind.

Fuck. RIP Andy. Such a humble man and a huge influence on bass player everywhere. Including myself.

Totally agreed
great interview you never interrupted Andy and that is very rare!
I would say that Andy Rourke was as big to The Smiths sound as Marr ...hands down.
No doubt
I agree! Very underrated bassist!

Certainly
Went to the same school as Andy and Johnny. They were a couple of years older than me. His bass lines will live on for ever. Seems like a nice guy
His voice is the bass alone. He was just translating what he was humming onto a fretboard.
one of the most creative bassists ever!
Nice interview; the questions were great and I like you asked about his bass tone.

Great interview. Involving questions.
Only Andy Rourke can pull off two sunglasses
and even at night!!!!

How can you make a mistake like that.
11:50 friends forever❤
Few bands left more money on the table. Smith’s reunion 2021!!!
Andy loved Well I Wonder.
I’m curious as to why there aren’t any #andyrourke and #mikejoyce tags in the description.

Interesting point. Some Girls are in fact Bigger than others. Hilarious. Goodness me. What a time to live a Life. Viva Morrissey 👍
