  • During our live show this week we needle felted owls using our CW-1 Core Wool and MC-1 Batting.These needle felted owls are so fun because you can make them any color combination and any design you like. We have been blown away by all the needle felted owls made by our friends following this tutorial.
    We have a little supply kit like the one used on the show, it is here: bit.ly/2QPEf5v
    JUMP TO TUTORIAL: 00:05:15
    **This is an edited version of our LIVE show...our "intro" and gift give-a-way got clipped due to technical issues :) This tutorial will take you step by step through the process for making your own cute and whimsical felted owl.
    Post your owl in our fb group www. groups/livingfeltfriends
    Immediately following our broadcast, a wonderful variety of little felted owls appeared, we would love to see yours there also.

    Just getting to make these cute guys! Love the tips “not lumpy mashed potatoes, nice bread” and cutting the eye wire on an angle. Thx Marie!

    Recently I watched a tutorial on using wool Neps , and they suggested that instead of anchoring them with wool, to use small amounts of silk. Just like we anchor silk with wool when wet felting, the silk seems to cover the Neps without mashing them down or covering them up. It kinda surrounds them and yet holds them down, you still will lose some, but worked better when I tried the silk. I also have used the backside felting, great tip, with better success than just wool anchors. Love the Owls and can't wait to make some. Thank you for your GREAT tutorials.

      Thanks, Nancy -- yes, some times we anchor with Silk Hankies, but needle felting with silk top can be a bit of a challenge. When I do needle felt with silk, I usually mix it with a bit of wool :) We look forward to seeing your owl!

      You are welcome, and I will admit the Nepps being felted with silk instead of wool was on a wet felted project. I did have some success on a 2D needle felting project, but like you said Nepps are just hard to work with in needle felting. I don't do FB but did send my Owl pictures to LF Customer service. Had fun making my first one.

    I have found this video very helpful. My grandsuns school is having a Winter Faire, and we will be have a shop for the children to purchase items as gifts. The parents and grandparents are hand making all of the gifts. So this is my first adventure in felting cute animals. I am going to purchase the kit to make those fantasy owls for the shop. Thanks again.

      I was gifted a felting kit for Christmas. It doesn't have any explanation of the needles. How do I know what needles to use. They have no numbers on them.

    Hi could you show us how to attach a head to a body of an animal felt please ? for me it's difficult because I often damage parts or head don't fixe very well to the body. I know the technique, I know we need some felt stuff but when I dot it, there is a problem. THank you very much

    My top layers sometimes start to peel. Am I just not stabbing enough?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  5 років тому

      If the top layers peel away with handling, yes, they need to be felted more. :)

    Is merino top more for wet felting?

    • @LivingFelt
      @LivingFelt  5 років тому +1

      Merino to is great for wet felting. You can needle felt it, but because all the fibers are aligned...you may prefer to use it for outlining or long lengths -- otherwise it is helpful to mix it up and get it going in different directions. The finer the microns, the more tricksy it will be to needle felt. So go with finer needles.

    How do I get ride of the fibers ?

      Hi Marissa! It may be easier for us to provide support and guidance if you post a picture of your project in our group www.fb.com/groups/livingfeltfriends and ask the question. We and our lovely community of friends will be happy to help once we better understand your challenge :)
