The “totalled” part just means that it would be uneconomical for insurers to repair them officially by Tesla or whoever can do the repairs, but the cars are still interesting, at least in parts, to smaller shops or people in poorer countries where labor is much cheaper and they can be fixed up spending way less

I do that sometimes, it's not always impossible. Mohamed was driving on solid concrete that has way less traction and zero water-carrying capacity.
Aside from that, their instant torque can easily break loose the wheels in the wet. And once you’re sliding in the wet you’re pretty much done for in any car unless you’re on rain biased tires and or have the room to correct. And on top of all that the Tesla crashes we see sue to hydroplaning is from overconfident drivers driving too fast for the conditions
Can’t believe the terrible state of those tires. Yes, the truck ran over the front of the car, but the Tesla driver could’ve been cited for an unroadworthy vehicle.
literally. Tesla drivers drive like their head is far up in their ass at all times. they never know what's going on the road. they can't see whatever's happening around them and always end up in accidents because of it.

Something good to think about for individuals who are under insured, the insurance company will pay for damages up to the limit of their coverage for that individual or vehicle. So if their limit is $10,000 and the damages let’s say $30,000, they will do an investigation to find out if the person who is responsible for the damage has any assets that they can Recover as a result of being under insured. So it’s very possible that a judgment could be entered against the underinsured person and that could mean that a judgment would be attached to your home should it ever be sold. There’s actually quite a bit more to it but basically that’s how it works.
@@Dick.B Remember, your insurance company will pay up to the limit of your policy. So if there’s $30,000 in damage for example the other person doesn’t have insurance and your coverage is only to $25,000, who do you think pays then. The good part is if the vehicle is financed, the lending institution is going to want coverage consistent with their exposure regarding the loan. So if a vehicle is paid off and has some value, it’s in your best interest to keep it properly insured, it only benefit you.
Can't squeeze blood from a stone. If the at-fault person is working McMinimum wage and lives in an apartment or something and doesn't have much asset to his name, insurance companies usually won't try to squeeze anything beyond the maximum coverage of other insurance. #21 - Is it really any surprise the cops didn't do any investigating? They think their 6 months of training and half-ass policing is enough to judge whether someone is high, drunk, or completely guilty or innocent. Always film the police!
@elephantsarenuts5161 I think you miss the point. They protect people no better than others. The point is most other cars can be repaired unless seriously damaged. Teslas get totalled from very minor bumps. Not very green, just junk yard fillers.
The blunt cold hard truth is that Ryan should be having a therapist session with Ms. Sue to explain why he's acting like such a nut case. He's not going to win that at the slightest.
#17 @13:11 the student CDL truck driver could've (and should've) easily made his turn even wider. Also he has pretty much one thing to pay attention to at that point. He failed on both accounts. The failed test was well deserved from that display of lacking skill and attention. In addition, Shawn needed new tires.
The best thing ever for Teslas is the number of cameras recording all the time. Those videos are a must have for any crash and also for any incident with the police like being accused of doing something illegal when you didn't. This is why I updated the USB to a bigger drive and I always have the cameras recording in my Tesla Model 3 Performance.
#19 - Matt is just as much to blame as the truck driver. He had no reason to try to cross three lanes to get to an open booth. By the time he would have arrived at the one he was originally headed for, the car in front would have been through already. #17 - Whoa, look at Shawn's tire at 13:44. The accident didn't cause that kind of wear. Dude needs to replace his tires when it's time, and routinely get the alignment checked. #7 - "Legally through the intersection," such a BS statement. The ONLY time it's legal to proceed through the yellow light is when you are too close to the intersection to safely stop, going too fast to safely stop, or are already in the intersection. When the light turns yellow, if you have time and space to slow down and stop, you do so, especially at these intersections where left-turning cars would be left sitting in the intersection when the light turns red. The editing in this clip seems to be a deliberate attempt to keep viewers from being able to see how long the light had been yellow before Ted's wife got to the intersection.
agree, situational awareness is really lacking in most of these crashes. If I were a judge, no way that Tesla Y wasn't at some fault, Footage showed she was a good ways out when yellow came on. She could and should have stopped without any issues for either of them. Turning left is bad enough without people trying to push yellows to limit. So easily avoided.
Are amber lights not a warning that the light is about to turn red (at ANY moment) & mean you should stop if it's safe to do so? Shawn's wife had plenty of time & room to stop safely. The US law might allow her to decide to run the yellow & hope it doesn't turn red, but the fact there was an accident shows her decision carried risk. In most other counties amber means stop, not accelerate and hope to beat the red.
Are you implying that a car with 4WD/AWD that is floating, skiing, hydroplaning above the road surface on a sheet of water will handle the same as a 2WD/FWD/RWD car in the same circumstances *because none of the tires on either car are actually contacting the road* (the definition of hydroplaning). You're right @obsoletecd-rom.
There were cars stopped in front of it. I'm pretty sure I can make out a shadow in front of it, and at the end of the clip a line of cars in the middle lane.
12:00 I think it‘s also Matt‘s fault because if you see it from the front, you see white lines on the street, and he drove over it, what is not allowed, because the line has no gaps between it. You‘ll see the white lines at 10:53.
Crash #4 @ 27:00 needs correction: mile marker exit 306A is an exit on Northbound I-5 vs I-84. This exit on NB I-5 is 4 miles north of the I-84 exit. Took me awhile to find it, but curiosity got the better of me.
Thomas, (first video) 3 accidents in a year shows you are blissfully ignorant to the actions of people around you, or you are allowing them to happen. Look before you go to see if someone is going to blow a red light or miss/disobey a traffic rule. Don't use your car (and body) to enforce traffic rules.
Shawn has a similar experience to me. I was also ran over by a truck trailer, except we were pushed back into a semi behind us. The only thing that kept us alive was the semi behind us stopped a safe distance behind, so we only walked away with whiplash and other minor bumps and bruises
Really sometimes I think what is wrong with some drivers? It is pouring with heavy rain on a Freeway and they go and race along at normal 80 miles a hour speed. What logic is that? No you slow down to say 50 MPH no matter your tires. Every time they can't seem to work out why they hydro-planed and crashed. Simple your a fool whom can't drive safely you think no matter the bad weather and bad rain soaked roads you can just keep on racing everywhere. Use your brain and see the weather and state of the road surface and drive better.
I'm not talking about "totals". I'm talking about the grossly inflated repair prices from Tesla for repairs. This is what happens when you allow a monopoly, IE-no competition on repair parts and labor.
Really sometimes I think what is wrong with some drivers? It is pouring with heavy rain on a Freeway and they go and race along at normal 80 miles a hour speed.
Ashish and everybody else driving a car should be aware that all-wheel drive/4wd does not matter when it comes to hydroplaning or braking. Hydroplaning means your tires are no longer in direct contact with the road surface, the tires are just surfing on top of the water. When that happens the driver is no longer in control of the vehicle. The only thing that counter acts hydroplaning is low enough speed to allow your tires the necessary time to displace enough water. The more worn your tires are the slower you need to go in water.
Right? I'm kinda mad that the truck driver made a claim with the Tesla's insurance instead of the buick that hit him first and caused all the accidents.
Never really seen anyone lose control over hydroplaning. Is it bad roads, bad tyres, etc? Combined with too high speed? In Norway we usually use tyres that work well in rain/snow. I can imagine someone living in dryer areas perhaps has tyres that are focused on higher temperatures than water etc.
Nearly all those Teslas are new. People don't think of maintainance. Here in the Netherlands standards are stricter, but with my new BYD I'm free from the annual inspection for the first 7 years. If I paid as little attention as most Tesla drivers seem to do around here, it could easily be that in 4-5 years I'm driving around on entirely bald tyres wondering why I keep slipping all over the place. 😆 I do drive summer tyres exclusively though both in the past and now. It's ussually 1-3 days a year that I drive in conditions where summer tyres won't perform to specifications, and that's not worth € 600-1000 a year every year for 2 tyre-swaps and storage fees. Just got to keep in mind not to go as quickly, have way less centrifugal forces on the car and expect each braking takes significantly longer. 19 years of driving now, only lost traction twice. Once on solid ice (rare around here) once because some idiot boomer had put a compacted snow mound in the road that stopped one of my wheels dead.
Ashish, all wheel drive will not help in a total hydroplane situation, with a single wheel hydroplaning possibly, with two wheels hydroplaning maybe, with all of them hydroplaning, nope.
Lmao @ Ryan for wanting to sue the city for running into a flooded part of the road after acknowledging the flooded road sign 😂 best of luck with that one and proves the average Teslas owner IQ.
22:10 well the airbags are not meant to deploy if the crash isn't serious enough, so yes, the car intentionally didn't deploy the airbags otherwise Jason himself may have been hurt by the airbags.
he got hit in the driver side door. the driver side door airbag is the one that didn’t deploy. and if the airbag purposefully didn’t deploy, tesla wouldn’t need to inspect the car to find out why it didn’t deploy. collisions at speeds as low as 15mph can deploy airbags
10:52 as matter of fact Matt should be held 80% liable as he was shifting multiple lanes very fast for no apparent reason. With Tesla’s cameras there should be minimal blind spot. Piece of advise: never do this in toll stations. Just get to the lane you need to be in early.
Why are only videos of tesla where it is the other party's fault. I've seen lots of pictures of teslas where it was the tesla driver's fault or the unreliable fsd fault, where are these videos?
As much as I like watching these videos, I can assure you that insurance companies love content like this as well that is proof positive that these cars will be uninsurable in the near future.
Seems like a common issue that drivers pay no respect to water on the road and end up crashing, because their speed is too high. Tesla are not equipped with very good rain tires anyway and waterplaning is an issue. The electronic stabilizers cannot do much to help when all wheels are without grip on the road. Get the speed down in wet conditions. That is the only thing that helps.
5:43 all AWD does is make acceleration require less power. the tires determine how your vehicle handles in the rain, not the drive train. plus, the faster you’re going, the less contact your tires has with the road, meaning less traction & an increased risk of hydroplaning. that’s why you’re supposed to drive slower in the rain 🙄 some of these people do not deserve a driver’s license.
don't it matter how many wheels are powered when your car hydroplane because your tyres and road disconnected by layer water, you do very little to no steer input till they reconnect or if you do and you have lot turn to the right soon they regain grip you going hard right if you want to or not
how does the emergency door release on the rear doors? Matt went across many lanes at the NJ Turnpike possibly without checking. You need to practice situational awareness when driving. I would have like to have seen more video from the side camera. Glen seemed to be the only person who did not see the truck making the turn. It seemed to me that the truck driver just hit the intersection as it turned red. Lots of people do not seem to know to slow down for standing water. The number of collisions recorded makes me wonder if people just suddenly forgot how to drive or if they are just distracted by their phones. Also notice that several of these could have been avoided if the Tesla driver would not have been as aggressive, not that they are at fault, but they could have avoided the crash by yielding in some of the videos. Jeremaine seems to be the victim of bad luck.
In the older model y theyre borderline negligently useless. They stuck them in the doors under the rubber liner of the lil storage pocket. But once you manage to get the tightly fitted liner out, its under a snap in hatch that you need a pry tool to access. Newer revision apparently redesigned it with a simple finger clip, like a battery cover on a toy.
every Tesla driver ive seeing these videos just shows how much they rely on their cars. that clip where the truck and trailer hit the Tesla could have easily been avoided. although the truck did run past a red light, he was practically past when it turned amber. swell as this the Tesla driver clearly would've seen the truck going by and somehow still managed to drive into the trailer. similar for the big rig driver. even though it came into your lane you can still see that the trailer wasn't going to make it so just reverse a bit rather than being too stubborn to move. it takes everyones life easier
6:48 really? Going much faster than everyone else and overtaking left and right in wet conditions? Who would've thought that could end badly.. Dude shouldn't have a license.
Exactly my point and also in this case it was illegal. With a name like mohamed it doesn't surprise me. Vehicle Code § 21755 CVC is the California statute that makes it an offense for motorists to pass other vehicles on the right, if the movement is made in an unsafe manner.

Where I live, they put up "construction zone" signs and cones, then take them down (eventually) with NO construction ever happening. Possibly for the enhanced ticketing laws. You speed 10 mph over the construction zone, speed limits you are ticketed for 20 mph... regardless if the construction crew is there or not.
Here in the UK both parties in an accident are breath tested by the police as a matter of course. Also saying “I fell asleep while driving” will get you a day in court. What is it with hydroplaning Teslas? Is there a design fault or as Tesla drivers seem to believe the car thinks for itself, it gets worn tyres replaced automatically
why the hell you can set an insurance cover so low? In Germany the minimum insurance value for cars is 1.2 million for property damage and 7 million for personal injuries.
liability is all I carry on my older vehicles, but upped to 1mil med and 100k for other car, which in today's world is probably too low now I watch these "totals" a couple looked pretty minor. 1.2 mil, wow. 10-20k is what the 6 states I have insured cars in require to have basic insurance in US. So many 50-150k cars on the roads, heck most driveways have more money in them than the house they sit at.
Matts fault. Sorry. Result of being too impatient (watch how all gates closer to him would he occupied) and crossing multiple lanes, starting to cross too early (line still solid, those inches would have made a difference) and also not paying attention to other traffic. My (german) opinion: He's lucky it's a split. Just take a breath and don't just change multiple lanes in a hurry to save 30 seconds.
its not so much the rain, its the standing water on the road, and the road surface did not help a smooth concrete than a tar road what can be a bit better getting rid standing water

I love how eco-friendly Teslas are. Every minor bump ends in total loss of a vehicle. So green.
Really is. Think of all the part-pullers that get spare parts out of those mostly minor dings and dents type of cars.
Fantastically green!
Also the bank notes are green that change hands to buy a new tesla.
Plus the drivers lose all common sense when they're surrounded with so much tech.
Most new vehicles are unless you drive a semi
They do not go to the press though, they are a loss for owner but insurance company sells them for spare parts or like in this video whole cars can be shipped to Eastern Europe where the masters of fesnkenvehicles or just good masters will make them look as new 😂 Nobody also destroys batteries, they end up in other cars that need sone parts of modules replaced or battery replacements.
The “totalled” part just means that it would be uneconomical for insurers to repair them officially by Tesla or whoever can do the repairs, but the cars are still interesting, at least in parts, to smaller shops or people in poorer countries where labor is much cheaper and they can be fixed up spending way less
@@jessicah3450 The abundance of tech isn't necessary for a driver to lose all common sense. There are plenty of people driving entirely mechanical vehicles with the exact same lack of awareness.
Yet my insurance company keeps harping on me to increase my coverage. (It’s not a horrible idea if you have assets….
@@Dick.B
Remember, your insurance company will pay up to the limit of your policy.
It also means at-fault driver will not get any money for repair or replacement car or any medical coverage.

“He thought the awd would do better in these conditions”
I guess that idiot doesn’t know what hydroplaning is.

What logic is that? No you slow down to say 50 MPH no matter your tires. Every time they can't seem to work out why they hydro-planed and crashed.

It’s impressive that the windows on the Ford Flex didn’t even break. 3:40
In the "Summer" clip, you can see that the truck was hit by a car that then hit the trailer being towed in the far right lane!
Right? I'm kinda mad that the truck driver made a claim with the Tesla's insurance instead of the buick that hit him first and caused all the accidents.

@Procrastinator1948 Yeah, I know, but who doesn't love the Jingle🤣
I do drive summer tyres exclusively though both in the past and now.
17:56 - It wasn't the arsonist driving the car. The driver is white, the arsonist is black.

This video is great, it would be interesting to see a summary of every video on the channel to see the total damage cost. Keep up the great work
Mohamed doing 80 in the rain, what a fool.
