I’m so glad I just ran into this. I was blessed with a 60-year career as a studio singer and in the 1960’s I had the honor and the joy of working on the Dean Martin Show for 6 years as a member of an 8-voice backup group, 4 guys and 4 gals. Dean was a consummate professional, so kind and genuine to everyone. The whole drinking thing was an act, the glass had apple juice in it. Yes he loved his family fiercely and he loved us gals but always with the deepest respect. I have the most wonderful memories of those years and truly miss my old boss.

Diana, thanks for sharing this. I've heard many times the drinking was a shtick. Recently, I've also heard the Sinatra-Martin duo was more professional than buddy buddy, simply because Sinatra was a nighttime partier and Dean was home with the family.

He gave up a job that paid well but did not enjoy. Took a job that was physically hard but enjoyed completely. He said that because he enjoyed it. It was stress free. Which made him laid back. But he was a hard worker when he worked.
