I can never hear too much from John Lennox, such a gracious, intelligent and godly man and Dave Rubin, always authentic, gracious and willing to engage with people who hold an array of different opinions and worldviews. God bless them. Love them both!
That's a great point. We all should be willing to have conversations with people that believe different than we do. I see that as the world's problem. We only see things from our own perspective.

@@j.h252 I am Christian & I agree. Evangelism and preaching are not for everyone. If we truly care about the soul of another, IMHO it is better to pray for them rather than try to tell or imply that you know something they don't, even if you believe that is the case. Jesus had the stature to do it, and St Paul, but I know I don't, & I think the hosts were unwise to put a guest on the spot like that.
Good thoughts here my friends, glad I wondered down here and read them. Having been in and around the ministry for some time, I have seen so much of the sharing with others how many people have come to the Lord around your ministry in the last year etc. Or the "Do you know God / Jesus?" opening statement approach to evangelism. Don't like any of that. It wasn't the method that Jesus used when He encountered people. He met them where they were and at their point of need. That should be our approach as well. I loved John Lennox's answer. " I want to relate to people as whole persons, not evangelism fodder."
Prof. John Lennox is incredibly wise and lovely! Every time I see or hear him, I MUST smile because he makes me feel happy, involving both heart and mind (brain ;-)).
Paul said in Romans 1 that God is obvious in creation. The evidence is there for everyone to see. The writer of Hebrews points to Moses as an example of faith. When we consider Moses, God was real to him from what he saw and experienced. It wasn't an act of faith know God exists, but it is an act of faith to place one's trust in God enough to cede control over one's life.

I think your framing of the question is problematic, because if science was the only reliable option for getting at some semblance of truth, then that would assume (by your counter to faith) that science is a monolithic, unanimous pedagogy & scope which never grows or subtracts from its prior hypotheses when confronted with new data or postulates new ideas or "conclusions" either, or doesn't form new branches or have any nuance in its exploration/explanation of objectivity whatsoever (which we know is not the case, yet we still overwhelmingly trust in science, as we should, despite it having come a long way in what we know. It's pretty much the scholarly consensus that a real earthly man called Moses as refered to in the Bible never existed. 2. I'm talking about epistemology, I'm talking about reliable methods of determining the truth of a claim, the God of the Bible is described as a supernatural being, yet we have no way to confirm if anything supernatural exists, therefore we have no justification to believe anything does. So if we want to believe we have no choice but to rely on faith and faith is unreliable. If faith was reliable, everyone who used faith to confirm their belief would arrive at the same conclusion, we know they don't. So if faith can lead to us arriving at false beliefs as well as true beliefs, it's totally unreliable wouldn't you say? 3. No, that's circular logic. Could a Spiderman comic be the claim and evidence of the claim? No, of course not. You can't use the book to confirm that what it says in the book is true. 4. When you say "IS" you're just using confirmation bias to confirm your presupposition that your God created everything. You have to show that your God exists first before you get to point at things and say "see there's the evidence my god did that" Otherwise I can just point at things and say "see there's the evidence that Zorg did that" And how do we decide who's right?

John Lennox is amazing by the grace of God. Truly a gift from God, and to me personally. He has truly been amazing in awakening my faith in God, and is helping me complete my journey, esp with this video, and I want to express my gratefulness to everyone involved.

I really like listening to David Rubin . How brave of him to come onto a Christian program. As a Christian i really respect his courage . As a Christian i am sometimes weak in voicing my faith. I am asking the Lord for more courage .
Got to hand it to Dave Rubin for being part of this. At times it probably felt it was all about him. He took it with humor, humility and class. Love how John made it not about him personally.
I LOVE Dr. Lennox!! I thank God for him, his intellect, love, and humanity. He is such a wonderful ambassador of our Christian faith. He is so brilliant and yet so humble and gracious, it is wonderful. I love his remarks towards David Rubin at the end regarding him not being pressured; I was SO glad he said that to David. I also really like and respect David Rubin. I think what he does with his show is terrific as he endeavors to graciously maintain the marketplace of ideas. Shows such as his are how we overcome the hideous intolerance and attempted takeover of the western world that we see from the main stream media, social media and most of the entertainment industry.
DR. John Lennox is wisdom, intelligence , humility and a life of real life experience just ooze from him. Not even mentioning that he is multi linguist. God bless him.

Hello Josh, I realised afterwards my ha ha wouldn’t make any sense. I laughed as I considered how God put some of the most unlikely people across my path to bring me to faith. I did go watch Ravi Zacharias and Dave. It was interesting but enjoyed these more. I think Ravi almost laid the foundation for these conversations.
Followed Dave Ruben for years - appreciated his willingness to be honest - not hjust during this event but over many years. Lennox - Big-John, what a great man. And great job Justin - as ever.
I have so much respect for the gracious way in which Dave Rubin handled difficult questions like his world view on being pro choice. It was such an interesting and insightful Q&A.

Yes! Being a Christian, is being a person who accepted Jesus as Savior. No use fighting the Reformation over again. I'm a Catholic, but deny any other denomination as being Christian.
A wonderful, respectful, fascinating chat, well chaired by Justin Brierly. Lennox and Rubin are really good and dignified as men with very different world views. Lennox is a powerful apologist for Christianity, while Rubin is very helpful and honest in accepting that his view has changed at least enough to be asking the big questions in a new way.
I liked so much that no one get angry or make fun in a bad way of the other, this was a respectable conversation, Rubin was a gentleman here... Telling that "God bless you " story mas a lot coming from him. Nice.
An angry Peter Atkins lol. Watch his debate with Hugh Ross. He says he doesn't believe in fairy tales he only believes in evidence and science. Hugh at the end asks him what evidence would make him change his worldview. He says there is none. lmao he was so salty the whole debate for literally no reason at all. Was so weird.
Two great books on & about pain was written by C. S. Lewis, "The Problem With Pain" & "A Grief Observed". After waking up & finding my wife dead with no warning, I kept my sanity by reading A Grief Observed probably somewhere between 15-20 times in the first 2-3 months afterwards.
I can understand Dave not having a real answer to what he finds hardest to believe. Before I became a believer I had many kind, friendly people try and persuade me to believe. I knew they were sincere but that didn't give me what I was missing. Like Dave I wasnt against it, I just didn't even know what or how I was to believe. It wasn't until I read the scriptures and asked God to reveal truth to me WHATEVER that truth might be that the word began proving itself to me, speaking to me and became real to me. We can't make people believe even convincing arguments. We can only provide information and seeds of faith. Then God reveals himself to whom and when he wills.
I Love John Lennox. YES I'm a Christian and extremely Happy to be one.. WHY.. Well its much better than the person I was for the first 3 quarters of my life(35 years).. A Self Righteous Know it ALL.. Who thought I was all that mattered and nothing else did!!! GOD frequently sets me straight these days.. I really get put out of joint sometimes when I am being improved but I always know why these days, instead of just spiralling into the next bad habit..
Rubin is a valuable asset providing a bridge for the moderate and rational. He is not intimidated by conservative views and has been exposed to some wonderful thoughtful world views I personally align with. Peterson, Lennox, Shapiro, Zacharias are bedrocks for traditional JudeoChristian values. Civil and meaningful discourse is so beneficial and much appreciated as a forum of enlightening encouragement! in my experience as a Christian since 1978, is that everything I find in the Bible has and is unfolding to be true, and just because I haven't experienced yet doesn't mean that I won't ever. Add to that, more fundamentally, that the Holy Spirit speaks to me for 15+ years, and that further confirms God as true and any doubts that I had are extinguished. It's one thing to have answers to prayer, but not always, and finding ourselves in situations that are left-field, but in which we get to serve Him.

I have the deepest respect for Dr. Lennox with his response to does he wish Dave would become a Christian. He wants to take the person as an individual not "Evangelism fodder." I have been in churches where it truly seems like the thought process is how many did you convert today, or who did you quote the sinners prayer with this week. Meet people where they are and love them as yourself. That will more than show Christ to a fallen world.

Rubin has always had a humble heart and open non confirmation bias attitude. Always open to learning and growing. Most ppl don’t have that gracious attitude that he has. I’ve known forever he was not going to remain atheist.

YES! Listening to Tim Keller’s sermons lead me straight to the Lord. He spoke in a way that, for the first time, I was able to fully understand the good news of the Gospel. I would absolutely LOVE to see that conversation.

Hello all! - All praise, honor and glory to our Father in Heaven! I think it would serve us well to remember that Jesus/God will meet a person where they are at. In other words, you don't need to clean yourself up to meet God. God will accept you as is and then the process of cleaning you up begins (churchy word - sanctification). The book of Exodus was about God taking the Israelites out of Egypt. Once saved from this bondage, God began taking the "Egypt" out of the Israelites. Meaning, he showed them a better way of living and started teaching them to stop the bad habits, unhealthy lifestyle choices (sins) that they had come to adopt from living in Egypt. In summary, we cannot expect non-Christians to know "right living" before they become Christians. Additionally, we should pray for and encourage new Christians and leave the cleaning up to God - in His time. Merry Christmas All !!!

Dave Rubin is on a search just as Jordan Peterson is. I've noticed that in some interviews Jordan is being pressed by some to commit to a particular denomination or world viewpoint. I can't think of anyone whose search for meaning has-been more public and honest. This in turn has influenced Dave. This kind of search, the meaning of life is of great and personal importance. John Lennox Is a wise and gentle man. God bless them and I pray for all of them.
Dave Rubin was right on target with the abortion issue. As a Christian woman, I believe women who don't believe as I do should definitely NOT be told by secular government they are doing a criminal act if they terminate a pregnancy. Dave's emphasis on freedom is relevant here.

So hard to peg Dave's elusive answers about what he believes in. It seems to come down to believing in believing. He also struggles with his soft position on abortion only because of the formidable opposition from the pro choice side but should truth be measured on that basis? Jordan Peterson offers a bridge to faith because he so convincingly argues that our sanity depends on it. Bravo that Dave seems to understand that. Yes John as usual was brilliant.

I’m not saying this is how it is with Dave Ruben, but I think the thing a lot people struggle with in regards to Christianity is being convicted of sin. I think a lot of people recognize the good in Jesus and his teachings but they don’t want to stop living in sin. I know for me that’s what it was and I still struggle with this every day. But I’m no longer questioning God or making excuses for my sin. I know Jesus is the only way to salvation and I need to do a better job living that way.
What Dave said at the end about Jews not trying to convert people is very important. In my experience it is mainly Christians that are trying to convert people in this world. I believe that is mainly because Christians have experienced something that has proven to them at least that their faith is real and not just a blind faith in a book. The holy Spirit is a uniquely Christian thing. You have to ask yourself how someone could believe in a religion and not have the desire to share it with the world. If you really believe your faith is the secret to a happy life the normal manifestation of that should be the desire to scream it from the rooftops!!
Not much more to say about the wonderful John Lennox. When have you ever heard the man speak and not been edified? Rubin is an example of a Classical Liberal, in the flesh. Open to reasoned discussion and open to change based on his experiences and the influence of others. His interview show is "must watch TV" if you are interested in knowing what makes the current world tick.

I once read a title of a book. I didn’t need to read the book, since the title alone made me think really hard. The title was “when bad Christians happen to good people”. JL said that he will never push someone beyond where they currently are. That is something we should all learn.
John, I understand why you'd say, as a true believer in Jesus, that the hardest thing is personal suffering and pain, mixed with evil. I've come to look at it this way, if there is no God then there is no hope after this life for all the 'innocent' AND there is no justice for those that perform evil on others. For me the hardest thing to think about is that I may be called to suffer because I'm a Christian. I can't imagine taking a much pain as some are called to endure at the hands of evil people, all with the objective of rejecting Christ Jesus. Richard Wurmbrand comes to mind.

@@j.h252 I am Christian & I agree. Evangelism and preaching are not for everyone. If we truly care about the soul of another, IMHO it is better to pray for them rather than try to tell or imply that you know something they don't, even if you believe that is the case. Jesus had the stature to do it, and St Paul, but I know I don't, & I think the hosts were unwise to put a guest on the spot like that.

Having been in and around the ministry for some time, I have seen so much of the sharing with others how many people have come to the Lord around your ministry in the last year etc. Or the "Do you know God / Jesus?" opening statement approach to evangelism. Don't like any of that. It wasn't the method that Jesus used when He encountered people. He met them where they were and at their point of need. That should be our approach as well. I loved John Lennox's answer. " I want to relate to people as whole persons, not evangelism fodder."
In his profession he is really setting himself up for lots of hate mail.

Paul said in Romans 1 that God is obvious in creation. The evidence is there for everyone to see. The writer of Hebrews points to Moses as an example of faith. When we consider Moses, God was real to him from what he saw and experienced. It wasn't an act of faith know God exists, but it is an act of faith to place one's trust in God enough to cede control over one's life.

It's pretty much the scholarly consensus that a real earthly man called Moses as refered to in the Bible never existed.
2. I'm talking about epistemology, I'm talking about reliable methods of determining the truth of a claim, the God of the Bible is described as a supernatural being, yet we have no way to confirm if anything supernatural exists, therefore we have no justification to believe anything does.
So if we want to believe we have no choice but to rely on faith and faith is unreliable.
If faith was reliable, everyone who used faith to confirm their belief would arrive at the same conclusion, we know they don't.
So if faith can lead to us arriving at false beliefs as well as true beliefs, it's totally unreliable wouldn't you say?

I LOVE Dr. Lennox!! I thank God for him, his intellect, love, and humanity. He is such a wonderful ambassador of our Christian faith. He is so brilliant and yet so humble and gracious, it is wonderful. I love his remarks towards David Rubin at the end regarding him not being pressured; I was SO glad he said that to David. I also really like and respect David Rubin. I think what he does with his show is terrific as he endeavors to graciously maintain the marketplace of ideas. Shows such as his are how we overcome the hideous intolerance and attempted takeover of the western world that we see from the main stream media, social media and most of the entertainment industry.

Hello Josh, I realised afterwards my ha ha wouldn’t make any sense. I laughed as I considered how God put some of the most unlikely people across my path to bring me to faith. Lennox is a powerful apologist for Christianity, while Rubin is very helpful and honest in accepting that his view has changed at least enough to be asking the big questions in a new way.

Two great books on & about pain was written by C. S. Lewis, "The Problem With Pain" & "A Grief Observed". After waking up & finding my wife dead with no warning, I kept my sanity by reading A Grief Observed probably somewhere between 15-20 times in the first 2-3 months afterwards.

I can understand Dave not having a real answer to what he finds hardest to believe. Before I became a believer I had many kind, friendly people try and persuade me to believe. I knew they were sincere but that didn't give me what I was missing. Like Dave I wasnt against it, I just didn't even know what or how I was to believe. It wasn't until I read the scriptures and asked God to reveal truth to me WHATEVER that truth might be that the word began proving itself to me, speaking to me and became real to me. We can't make people believe even convincing arguments. We can only provide information and seeds of faith. Then God reveals himself to whom and when he wills.

in my experience as a Christian since 1978, is that everything I find in the Bible has and is unfolding to be true, and just because I haven't experienced yet doesn't mean that I won't ever. Add to that, more fundamentally, that the Holy Spirit speaks to me for 15+ years, and that further confirms God as true and any doubts that I had are extinguished. It's one thing to have answers to prayer, but not always, and finding ourselves in situations that are left-field, but in which we get to serve Him.

I have the deepest respect for Dr. Lennox with his response to does he wish Dave would become a Christian. He wants to take the person as an individual not "Evangelism fodder." I have been in churches where it truly seems like the thought process is how many did you convert today, or who did you quote the sinners prayer with this week. Meet people where they are and love them as yourself. That will more than show Christ to a fallen world.

Yeah. God makes a massive distinction between humans confused about acts of kindness which spring from tenderness and care and those that spring from selfishness and destructive aims.
When young people feel flutters of love and affection, sweet crushes and urges to care for, God is okay with any technical confusion based in temporary cultural codes. God isn't okay with anyone's gluttony or mean spiritedness.

Hello all! - All praise, honor and glory to our Father in Heaven! I think it would serve us well to remember that Jesus/God will meet a person where they are at. In other words, you don't need to clean yourself up to meet God. God will accept you as is and then the process of cleaning you up begins (churchy word - sanctification). The book of Exodus was about God taking the Israelites out of Egypt. Once saved from this bondage, God began taking the "Egypt" out of the Israelites. Meaning, he showed them a better way of living and started teaching them to stop the bad habits, unhealthy lifestyle choices (sins) that they had come to adopt from living in Egypt. In summary, we cannot expect non-Christians to know "right living" before they become Christians. Additionally, we should pray for and encourage new Christians and leave the cleaning up to God - in His time. Merry Christmas All !!!

Dave Rubin is on a search just as Jordan Peterson is. I've noticed that in some interviews Jordan is being pressed by some to commit to a particular denomination or world viewpoint. I can't think of anyone whose search for meaning has-been more public and honest. This in turn has influenced Dave. This kind of search, the meaning of life is of great and personal importance. John Lennox Is a wise and gentle man. God bless them and I pray for all of them.

Dave Rubin was right on target with the abortion issue. As a Christian woman, I believe women who don't believe as I do should definitely NOT be told by secular government they are doing a criminal act if they terminate a pregnancy. Dave's emphasis on freedom is relevant here.

So hard to peg Dave's elusive answers about what he believes in. It seems to come down to believing in believing. He also struggles with his soft position on abortion only because of the formidable opposition from the pro choice side but should truth be measured on that basis? Jordan Peterson offers a bridge to faith because he so convincingly argues that our sanity depends on it. Bravo that Dave seems to understand that. Yes John as usual was brilliant.

I’m not saying this is how it is with Dave Ruben, but I think the thing a lot people struggle with in regards to Christianity is being convicted of sin. I think a lot of people recognize the good in Jesus and his teachings but they don’t want to stop living in sin. I know for me that’s what it was and I still struggle with this every day. But I’m no longer questioning God or making excuses for my sin. I know Jesus is the only way to salvation and I need to do a better job living that way.
What Dave said at the end about Jews not trying to convert people is very important. In my experience it is mainly Christians that are trying to convert people in this world. I believe that is mainly because Christians have experienced something that has proven to them at least that their faith is real and not just a blind faith in a book. The holy Spirit is a uniquely Christian thing. You have to ask yourself how someone could believe in a religion and not have the desire to share it with the world. If you really believe your faith is the secret to a happy life the normal manifestation of that should be the desire to scream it from the rooftops!!

Not much more to say about the wonderful John Lennox. When have you ever heard the man speak and not been edified? Rubin is an example of a Classical Liberal, in the flesh. Open to reasoned discussion and open to change based on his experiences and the influence of others. His interview show is "must watch TV" if you are interested in knowing what makes the current world tick.
Rubin: "What am I doing here?" That is the best question of the night! What WAS he doing there?
And yours is the densest comment I've read, so far. Dave was obviously joking. Obvious, also, is your own bias. I'm guessing, you would not have had the guts to engage in a conversation like that?

Atheists always dismiss and demean those they disagree with- I've never witnessed otherwise. Bart Erhman does it; Richard Dawkins does it; Dan Barker does it, etc. The list goes on and on and these atheists are scholars in their own right.

John, I understand why you'd say, as a true believer in Jesus, that the hardest thing is personal suffering and pain, mixed with evil. I've come to look at it this way, if there is no God then there is no hope after this life for all the 'innocent' AND there is no justice for those that perform evil on others. For me the hardest thing to think about is that I may be called to suffer because I'm a Christian. I can't imagine taking a much pain as some are called to endure at the hands of evil people, all with the objective of rejecting Christ Jesus. Richard Wurmbrand comes to mind.
