    There are only so many shapes and designs one can use to make a fountain open. Jinhao has indeed made it's own unique designs. A Sailor customer will not be swayed from the brand because of a lookalike. It's okay to have a Lamy 2000 and a Jinhao 80. Both can be appreciated. I own 2 Sailor lower end pens. They are not to my liking as far as how they feel on the page. This channel has not disrespected Sailor or someone that truly loves fountain pens. There is a market for both. At the age of 59, I've been using fountain pens since 1977 and one of my favorite pens is a Speedball with a crisp 1.1 ...I have pens that cost a few dollars and some that are $200...it all comes down to user experience. Thank you for an interesting comparison. 🖋🕊📓

    I have a couple of the Sailor PGS pens, both of which I have sent to a nib meister for smoothing, as I don’t like the regular Sailor feedback. So I’ve ordered two of the Jinhao 82s, one with a Fine nib and the other with an Extra Fine nib, to try. They’re so affordable! And I’ll mix and match the caps, as one is pale blue and the other translucent green, both with gold toned hardware. If they’re as smooth a nib as the other Jinhao pens I own, I’ll like them more than the Sailors.

    It is not a tight fit, the Jinhao 992 has the same cap thread that can be screwed on to Sailor's body, but the inner cap is what stops it from properly fitting and closing, and they are different in length; honestly I'd say that's good enough on Jinhao's part. Can't replace that Sailor feedback though(and it doesn't have to be gold nib; their premium steel offerings are just as good)

    I think the nib of the 82 is exactly the same you can find in Jinhao 992s (nib #5). The nibs are decent but they suffer from ink starvation after continuous writing a longer text. Not a big deal, one needs to rest the pen for a minute or two. I also have a Sailor Pro Gear Slim but I cannot compare it to the Jinhao as they have completely different nibs (regular "M" vs. music nib).

    The $100-700 Japanese pen space is full of overpriced pens. Look at the sailor PGS to the KOP. The only change is a larger nib and body, leading to a 4x increase in price. The only thing that makes a larger plastic pen more expensive the larger nib, but the pen is priced way higher than that.

    • @tintanna4793
      @tintanna4793  Рік тому +2

      The price difference between these pens is a lot, I agree. I will not get a KOP, way out of my price range. There’s a lot of factors that contribute to the price of the pen. Material is one, labor is one, then you have demand and supply, importation and the taxes that goes into that and the retailer mark up as well because they have employees they have to make money. So if you add all of these together that explains why the price is wayyyy more than the actual production cost.
