Anyone can make sound - even things that sound "good". Music is using sound to transmit emotion to the listener. The more powerful the emotion you create indicates how good a musician you are. The Rolling Stones taught me this.
I've been a musician 20+ years and the best thing I've ever done is carry around an h1 and record any tiny little idea I've ever had that I knew I would forget. 8 gigs later you've got endless material to choose from and you're well practiced at generating new ideas. Just bought my first midi a couple weeks ago so super excited to sift through the pile and pan some gold!
Makes so much sense. Though dissecting a song for a beginner takes so long so it must be a song we really like and we can listen to for hours. Realised this after listening to Taxi's Here by Tame Impala for 2,5 hours straight without getting bored

You can also use your notes to create a template in your DAW, which can be suuuper helpful. 😁

I struggle with describing the instrumentation in the more experimental genres sometimes, what can I do?
describe using emotions! name the sections using symbols, anything goes as long as it represents some feelings
