"I tell ya I get no respect" and straighten his necktie was his Dangerfield's schtick. Before Eddie Murphy made it big he asked Rodney Dangerfield how he did one night when they both performed at a Comedy Club. Dangerfield told Eddie that nobody wants to pay to hear a guy curse on stage. A year later after Eddie hit the big time and was performing in Vegas, he ran into Dangerfield in the mens room, and Dangerfield looked at Eddie and said "Who knew...". If you want to see some classic Dangerfield, watch the iconic movie "Caddyshack".
@Gunny, I was gonna suggest this film as well. It has some of his classic humor and over the top mannerisms. Funny movie. Plus, it has a young Bill Murray in it who was great as well.
I liked "Back to School". And his small part in "Natural Born Killers" was classic. But you should just watch a documentary on this man. He didn't get big until he was older. But Check out Redd Fox, Rodney is rated "G" compared to Redd...Of course there is Richard Pryor.....

We were so blessed to have lived thru that time. We watched Johnny Carson every night, no one ever got 'offended' and laughed for an hour and a half. Great times indeed.
Rodney Dangerfield is literally, and by far, the funniest man to ever exist. His story is terribly sad to know just how depressed he was but man he was the funniest dude and loved making people laugh
Isn't it tragic that the ones that strive the hardest to make others laugh are the ones that go through and fight the worst of the darkness of depression and abuse? They are the real treasures of unmeasurable value.
His family treated him so very badly and comedy was the only light in the tunnel to guide him. He constantly thought up and wrote down new material and kept every scrap of paper he wrote on for it. I loved "Easy Money" especially....
It seems a lot of comedians are privately depressed, Jim Carrey, Rodney Dangerfield, also tragic ending of Robin Williams. Wonder why that is, impressions from watching them would make you think they are the funniest people to be around but in reality they're very unhappy 🤷♂️
Sexually abused, too. He’s talked about being five years old and being paid a nickel to “sit with men in their cars”. He didn’t elaborate, but one can only imagine.
The thing I remember most is how much he did for young comedians like Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jeff Foxworthy. He inspired young comedians of all ages and helped them become successful.
Your reaction had me laughing. Be sure to check out his "Rappin Rodney No Respect" single. Also his movies Caddy Shack, Back to School and Ladybugs are my favorites. Be safe and take care.
Man I love ol' man Dangerfield. He was the absolute master of self-deprecating comedy. The best of all his jokes... "I asked the taxi driver where can a guy get some action in this town. He took me to my house..."
Aaahhhhhhhh..... back to a better time when people has a sense of humor. It's hard to imagine someone not knowing who Dangerfield is but I'm happy you have discovered him!
Rodney is the legend of the legends. His comedy was born from the pain of his own childhood. But he made sure his children had everything they needed. He provided an avenue of discovery for up-and-coming comedians through his connections and his own club called Dangerfields which hosted a ton of now well-known comedians. Dangerfields closed in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic after 50 years of operations.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS COMMENT NEEDS TO BE PINNED!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Didn't know they (with C19) killed his club, but they killed a lot of businesses and people...on purpose. Now normal people are getting no respect, we are all joining you Rodney thanks to the NWO....them bastards.
The absolute best!!! No one dissected jokes back then and no one was offended!!! People that have a brain realize they were jokes!!! He was the funniest stand up I have seen in my life.
The thing he did with the tie thing I think it started out being a nervous took at first and he just Incorporated it into his bit, Rodney Dangerfield has the quickest but most hilarious deliveries, he's probably one of the most timeless comedians, what I mean by that is he can say the shortest joke the quickest and you still remember it hours later, and it's just as funny as when he delivered it. He was definitely a comedy genius, cuz some of the jokes hit past but some of the jokes are like oh wait a minute that was hilarious.
Thank you for featuring Rodney. He was one of my favorite comedians. People need to lighten up instead of taking everything so personal. Rodney, like many comedians in his time, had us rolling with laughter and no one got offended. As I see McMann, Rodney, and Johnny, I realize they are all gone, but not forgotten.
It was definitely a different time and he was very self deprecating as well. He was actually a sweet and wonderful man and you’d be hard pressed to find many who knew him that had a bad thing to say about him.
This is the Great Rodney Dangerfield, King of the "one liner" joke. He passed way a few years ago. He once said he had at least 5 jokes for every situation in life, and he had them ready whenever the occasion called for them. No matter the subject, Rodney had a joke on the tip of his tongue. He was amazing.
I was lucky enough to see Rodney perform eight times. Funniest comedian ever. Without cursing. That’s what makes him even funnier. Miss him a lot. R.I.P. Rodney.
There's three or four compilations of classic Miller Lite commercials. I'd forgotten how funny they were. Made watching sports in the 80's even better.
Rodney is one the legit legends of comedy. He was a comedians comedian, a real mentor to a lot of the younger comics who were comin up when Rodney was at the top of doing his thing.
I grew up listening to him with my friends. Listening with you made it so alive again. Thank you!!!! I loved the newness you brought to it. So much fun.
I get tired just holding up the magazine!! OMG this guy was freaking awesome! Love watching you see him for the first time! He did a movie "Back to School"... HILARIOUS
There’s a couple more appearances of him on Johnnys show that you should check out. Johnny literally couldn’t stop laughing and almost fell of his chair. Miss both of these legendary comedians. RIP
Rodney in Caddy Shack was great. His shtick was "I can't get no respect". In the old days, Johnny Carson Show was on late at night and was hugely popular. The next morning, the first thing we'd ask at work was "Did you see Johnny Carson last night"? Some of us couldnt always stay up that late.
Even by that time, Rodney was already a legend. In the 80's he had HBO specials from his club "Dangerfield's", where he basically launched the careers of many now-famous comedians. Check out the movie "Caddyshack" for Rodney's greatest performance. That movie wouldn't have been the same without him.
Your face when he said that the computer matched her up with Detroit...priceless 😅 The joke where he says that she got a job sitting in the front end of a truck while they change the rear tires had me howling in front of my computer 🤣 Rodney is the man!
That mannerism where he adjusts his tie... it's to make him look nervous... it's a well rehearsed part of his act. He's a real master of the craft. Rapid fire one-liners... for hours.
Appreciate every word of his that has been recorded for you to enjoy. It took Rodney Dangerfield many, many years to get a break. His childhood was terrible. His struggle was real. He never gave up because this is what he was destined to do. And he is one of the funniest of all time. "I don't get no respect" was his tagline.
I remember this story about a reporter asked Rodney, "How long will you be in the hospital?" [on 8/24/04, before entering a Los Angeles hospital for heart valve replacement surgery] If things go right, I'll be there about a week, and if things don't go right, I'll be there about an hour and a half. Rodney Dangerfield
So glad to see you smiling and laughing, man.... I had a feeling you would.. That, my friend, is th 70s_80s on a routine basis :) unbridled comedy, amazing times, challenging though they were.
That was good, brought back memories, when people weren't so sensitive, realizing they are joking. Look how he knocked himself, that's humor. Hopefully someone in the comments will send you a link to Don Rickles. Talk about nowadays, he would definitely be taken off twitter, God Bless!
Rodney Dangerfield was one of the best stand up comedians of all time. He arguably hit his peak in the 1980's when he was in his 60's with movies like Caddyshack, Easy Money and Back to School and his appearances on this Miller Lite commercials and the Tonight Show. He also gave many big name comedians their start on his HBO Specials. I had the pleasure and privilege of seeing him live at the Mid Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY in March of 1985. Hard to believe he'd have been 100 years old if he were still alive. Thanks for the laughs and memories, Rodney.
I'm pretty old so I can tell you back in the day when we had actual freedom of speech we laughed our butts off at comedy. It wasn't delivered in hatred. I admit watching this made me laugh so much. Forgive me 2022.

"I Get No Respect" was his motto. He actually has a few movies that were pretty funny. Rodney Dangerfield is a legend. One of my favorite jokes of his was "I met a girl in a bar and afterwards she asked if I wanna go back to her place. Nobody is home. So I drove to her place and knocked on the door. She was right, nobody was home." 🤣🤣🤣
True pioneer to comedy bruh sad he doesn’t get the credit he deserves the man was just hilarious he walk in the room you start laughin cause you knew what was comin
That was part of his schtick - moving his head around like that. And halfway through his routine he would break out with saying “ I don’t get any respect “. The audience would start laughing and clapping because that was his signature saying. Johnny Carson had him on his show all the time. He was one of Johnny‘s favorite comedians. Later on, he started being in movies, one of them being Caddyshack. Rodney Dangerfield was hilarious.
3:04 “What is this thing he does?” I believe it’s because business men his age wore ties, and that grabbing at the tie area and moving his head was to show how uncomfortable it was just to be him. A (faked) sign of anxiety.
I miss Rodney Dangerfield ...the best one liner jokes ever..yelp he discovered most of our comedians even dave chappelle,Tim Allen,Robin Williams an many more
I've watched Rodney since the 80s!! Caddyshack, Back to School, his HBO specials when Sam Kinnison, Louie Anderson, Bob Saget, David Tyree just to name a few. One of my funniest Rodney Dangerfield jokes ... "We had a fire at our house, yea, we did ... my wife says, Quiet kids, you'll wake dad!"
😆😆😆
Funny
Best joke: My Doctor is a part-time photographer. He told me to bend over and say “cheese”.
He and Robin Williams had a lot in common
He’s a funny guy and his movies are funny too
Your reaction had me laughing.
How about "my kid was really acting up, so I told him "don't worry some day you'll have kids of your own' he said "so will You dad"
@@Robsan40 Absolutely bar none my favorite Dangerfield joke
@@TemperedMedia - and don't forget:
"My wife invited me to sex in the car. She wanted me to DRIVE!"
Rodney was always hilarious. If you've never seen him in the movie Caddyshack, you're in for a treat.
And the movie,
Back to school. And his cartoon movie,
Rover Dangerfield.
Lady Bugs was a beauty too!
Dude I have been a huge fan of Rodney for years! But what made me laugh was watching you laugh for the first time. Great stuff! 😂
Rodney’s a legend, but Johnny should get some serious credit for keeping the act rolling with all those great questions.
Yes! ... It's called Rehearsal!
I saw him live in 1982, and I don't think I stopped laughing. Oh my gosh. 😂
You were very lucky to see him live. I would've loved to have seen him
@@andreadeamon6419 Yes, I really was. Many a good show came to my home city back then.
What is good about him is he only talks about himself and his family and he doesn't put down anybody else that makes him a good comedian
So, Eminem is the Rodney Dangerfield of rap. Got it. Thanks.
He talks about just himself? He literally just did 3 minutes on fat girls.
@@neillenet291 well, so he strayed a little......
Don Rickles went after everyone. Everyone! He was hilarious, too!
@@LeRoy313 yup
Caddy Shack! Back to School!
Rodney Dangerfield is a genius!
Growing up with comedians like that made it so much fun being young
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Didn't know they (with C19) killed his club, but they killed a lot of businesses and people...on purpose.
Now normal people are getting no respect, we are all joining you Rodney thanks to the NWO....them bastards.
Him and Richard Pryer was the best
Johnny's rhythm with Rodney was great. His ability to keep it looking like a conversation with straight man under his breath comments was unmatched.
In addition to his other talents, Johnny was a great straight man.
I was lucky enough to see Rodney perform eight times. Funniest comedian ever. Without cursing. That’s what makes him even funnier. Miss him a lot. R.I.P. Rodney.
Rodney's an icon. Even his old Miller Lite commercials back in the day were hilarious.
Uecker made them better
I remember those commercials no Ueker was not better.
His club started the careers of some of the greats, pulling them into the spotlight from obscurity.
And I think they won't censor Family Guy but they would censor Rodney he just says what everybody else is thinking but quicker
I saw Rodney Dangerfield live at a dinner club show many, many years ago, and I never laughed so hard in all my life. Unforgettable.
I remember him and he was so funny! We have lost the ability to laugh at ourselves.
Fun watching you ... back that time.. we all laughed at ourselves.. it was a lot more fun than now.
I love his I get no respect schtick! Thank you for checking out this great American icon! Fabulous reaction!
I grew up listening to him with my friends. Listening with you made it so alive again. Thank you!!!! I loved the newness you brought to it. So much fun.
Rodney was unique. His tag line "I get no respect" was classic. I forgot about Dr. Vinnie Boom Bah. Fun. Enjoyed your reaction to one of the greats.
Dr. Vinnie Boom BatZ! But you were close!
One of his older dr Vinnie Boom Baz jokes: The doctor told me I was very sick, I told him I wanted a second opinion, he said 'OK, You're Ugly too'
@@Robsan40 Dr. Vinnie Boom BaTz! But you were close!
Rodney is one of the greats on stage! Definitely a king of comedy! RIP 🙏🏽
Love Rodney. King of one liners. And I love how when his bits over he keeps it rolling during the interview. Classic
Bro, you are awesome.. presence and spirit is extremely calming and welcoming. Keep being a light
That was a Time when People actually understood the meaning of Comedy 😂
"Just finished my first book; now I'm gonna read another one". This one got me good xD They're such dad jokes, and they're good! hahaha
Rapid fire one-liners... for hours.
I thought the necktie adjustment physically expresses his mental anguish and discomfort from whatever humiliation he is recounting.
I'm glad to see this. I always thought it was too mimic exasperation, like relieving tension by loosening your tie
@@rickindurham let’s not talk about the eight ball he done before coming out
I always thought he adjusted his tie to make sure it was perfect like a vanity thing.
@@buymoreguns1491 He did have a bit of a habit. 😬
I grew up watching this dude. He was a great self deprecator in a way that made it relatable and funny. Miss him! He’s been in a few movies too.
Wow, what an answer.
Old school
Rodney was the absolute KING of the one liners
Dangerfield was one of the masters and greatest comedians of all time. You've got a lot of laughs to explore.
very true....
I'm pretty old so I can tell you back in the day when we had actual freedom of speech we laughed our butts off at comedy. It wasn't delivered in hatred. I admit watching this made me laugh so much. Forgive me 2022.
Are you a book banner, by chance? I remember book bans, then they were lifted sometime in the 50s. And now they are back. You are in a cult, Zombie.
Don't apologize! I'm a 70s baby...my little brother and I had to sneak and watch this kind of stuff😂😂😂😂
As a fellow oldie-We are past needing forgiveness from a bunch of brainwashed idiots, but they Sure owe us!!! People of today have No idea what FUN is, or talent, & think they’ve won the world when someone bows to them, SO DON’T!!!
The pulling of his collar is his trademark....u young bloods‼️😆😂😁💣💥 old school CHI-TOWN HERE🎯
"I Get No Respect" was his motto.
Like in Caddy Shacky when he tells the old lady..You must have been really something before electricity.
I saw him in Las Vegas in 1981 and I REALLY loved it! We need more like him!! You need to see the Toy! He was HILARIOUS!!!!!
Classic!! True legend. R.I.P. Rodney dangerfield. Love his “back to school” movie 🎥 🍿
Rodney is the king of Self-Depreciation. I remember my favorite one liner of his:
I told my wife to shorten my pants so she took up the crotch 😂
Please consider DEAN MARTIN ROASTS. So many legends on that show
Absolutely yes!
You need to check out the 1980 movie 'Caddyshack' with Rodney Dangerfield in it : *hilarious* !
No one was off limits with Rodney. His move “Meet Wally Sparks” is hilarious. Loved Rodney 😂♥️
Even Roseanne Barr got her big break with him. A legend in genre of comedy. Lived a good life. No Oscar's but did get some awards for comedy in television. R.I.P. With all due RESPECT! ❤
Absolute legend. Welcome to the fold, bruv
Edit: The "holding up the magazine" joke will go over the head (lol) of most young men.
