Gnome packs a bigger punch than their name suggests: combining irresistible hooks and thundering guitars, drums and bass with adventurous twists, they brew their unique and ultimately satisfying potion of stoner, prog and hardrock.
After the success of 2018 debut ‘Father of Time’, which demonstrates their knack for stacking riffs like lego bricks, and having conquered stages across Europe with their shin-kicking live sets, the power trio from Antwerp raise the bar with their majestic second outing ‘King’.
They sound bigger and heavier with more vocals (including special guest Oskar Logi from The Vintage Caravan) but never losing sight of the quest for the golden riff.
‘King’ was recorded with Frank Rotthier at Rockstar Recordings in between lockdowns in the fall of 2020 and will be released by POLDERRECORDS digital, on cd and on vinyl May 6th, 2022.
Imagine never hearing of this band, falling asleep watching rock music videos, then waking up to this. Then you will know how I feel.

Can I just say that the color grading is amazing? This was clearly shot on a dreary fucking day, but the editor went in and made sure the colors still pop like nobody's business. Really helps sell the whole "a playful forest sprite is coming to kill you with a claw hammer" vibe
Luckily, it is exactly the dreary days that are good for good colors (at least as far as I know). The dynamic range is reasonable, the lighting is soft, the shadows are almost all filled, and everything is lit with the same single huge softbox in the sky. So everything's the same color temperature, and the quality of lighting is almost studio-like.

I'm not sure what I just watched, but I fucking loved it. These guys rock. Just the right mixture of not taking themselves seriously while being serious as hell with the music. A totally "fresh" sound.

This was NOT what I expected. Not when I listen to music, not when I woke up today, not even when I clicked on the video. Pleasantly surprised.
My whole life I’ve held a more or less positive view of King Wenceslas, looking out on the feast of Stephen and all. But now I realize my life has been a lie.
There are a whole bunch of Wenceslases, so this could be a different one. My money's on Wenceslas IV.
The Ol' "Good King" Wenceslas wasn't a king, at least not when he was alive. He was a Duke that was given the title of King post-humorously. I think this is a different Wenceslas (very willing to be proven wrong on this if the band would like to chime in here)
I’m familiar with Wenceslas IV of Luxembourg from the video game Kingdom Come: Deliverance, in which he was portrayed as a sympathetic, if ineffective ruler. If this song is a reference to the same, it is a drastically different treatment.
I'm not sure what this song was about. At first, I thought it was a fictional character out to get the Gnomes, but then I looked it up, and it doesn't add up. It could also be some alternative view of reality?

When Wenceslas went out into the blizzard, on the feast of Stephen, this trio of Gnomes were waiting to assassinate his ass.
This showed up on my playlist, clicked it while thinking "wtf is this shit?" and now I'm dancing around the room while wearing a Gnome hat. Best line dance ever.
Whose idea was the dancing? Give that person a raise, a hug, and a chocolate bar.

I am super glad I decided to watch this video for the first time in HD. What a crisp and delightful visual experience, my commendations to the operator of the camera and the editor! I did not expect to enjoy the visuals of three rockers dancing in the mud anywhere near that much.
This genuinely confuses and amazes me at the same time, both emotions kinda reflect off one another but this is bizarre and I love it

What baffles me is that this was the next recommended video for me after watching a video on "Empathy" for Nursing School past midnight..... I am both perturbed, pleased, and a little scared.
Wether you want to call this Metal or Stoner Rock it's just a sound you don't really hear often with newer bands. And although I can't say I'm nostalgic for a time that my existence was even a forethought. I can say that this is a fantastic tribute to a time when rock'n'roll was in one of it's rawest forms. Keep rocking out with your junk out boys you got yourself a new fan.
It's called Gnome-rock, or just Gnome in short. You know, as in, Do the Gnome, and then you go transforming something or play a kick ass riff or just space out a century.. 🤟
