- Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has won a surprise re-election, after opposition leader, Bill Shorten, conceded defeat.
Exit polls had favoured the Labor Party but, despite significant gains in New South Wales and Victoria, Mr Shorten's bid to become Australia's sixth prime minister in six years fell short.
With just over 70% of votes now counted, Scott Morrison's Liberal Party and its coalition partners are just shy of what they need for a majority - but the Labor party has already conceded defeat.

Well, his term after reelection turned out pretty average. Doesn’t hold a hose - too busy on holiday in Hawaii, it’s not a race, established the seven kingdoms of Australia, ignorant to sexual misconduct, the biggest public debt accumulation in Australian history, embarrassed Australia on the world stage for failing to contribute to environmental policy, pissed off the French president and put our diplomatic relations on ice, damaged diplomatic relations with China wreaking havoc on the export sector. Two and a bit years in office and only disaster to show for it on all counts.

After winning he said he understands Australians want the government to take care of them. That's a strange thing to say after a almost losing to leftie media offensive and then being rescued by the strong conservative turnout. Australians who voted for him do not want for the government to rescue them, but want instead to put the government back in its place to engage in what the government is supposed to do - protect borders and administrative essentials rather than running their lives for them. Hopefully this guy doesn't take his voters for granted and starts kissing up to the media.
