I could imagine Jensen & Wright back when They collaborated. Hello from Chicago's Treestorian and professional Arborist rescuing Jens Jensen & Frank loyd Wrights long lived trees connecting back to Midwestern Prairie school ecology movement.
I also understand initially the percentages, however given what native plants do you’re going to loose that distribution due to competition and possibly newly introduced native species over the years. But, that’s what makes native gardening so fun.
Surprised to see so much Grass Lawn in your plantings. I hope you will re-evaluate your percentages and drastically decrease the lawn in years to come. Bare Minimum to Zero lawn would be good.
We can appreciate where you're coming from. The lawn seen in this video is used as a gathering place and event space for educational activities held throughout the year. No herbicides are used to treat the lawn.
Everything looks lovely but you planted everything too close together so certainly when you get back you will have work thinning. Native plants are the future - the only hope for a future. Native plants are for everyone but folks do needs to remember to know their own land and soil (drainage/clay/sand, etc.) to get the proper plants to thrive on their own there. Once established, natives bring along the entire ecology of the land and will take care of themselves to a larger degree than plants that are native to other continents.
Very cool to see this kind of collaboration. I look forward to following the development if these beds and future collaborative projects.
Two great native plantsmen collaborating!
