Undoubtedly the best choral work ever - for me and surely for most - sung by the best choir (possibly in the world). It simply doesn't get any better. God is great.❤
I sang with Jesus College Mixed Choir as an undergraduate in 2003-2005 when Dan was our musical director, but the nights that we weren't singing I frequently spent in the chilly university stalls soaking up evensong at Kings. My only regret is not going more frequently than I did, living as I now do in Australia - a very long way from Cambridge indeed! I am a lay clerk at St John's Cathedral in Brisbane though where we keep the choral tradition well and truly alive and which is my home from home. We sang this not long ago, and it transported me back to Cambridge, all the notes being still in muscle memory from Cambridge days, and is a precious connection to a former life.
This is one of those rare anthems that is more emotionally powerful to sing than to listen to, from my experiences of having sung it many times under different circumstances and different small, professional church choirs. Or maybe it’s that I had better church choir directors than I knew! I have heard so many good performances of it, but not one has come close to the way I have been moved myself as I was in the middle of it. Directors seem to not want to express the mystery of John’s apocalyptic vision! This is _The Book of Revelation,_ after all, with the most mysterious and frightening text in the whole Bible, and Bainton does such a great job of weaving in the mystery via the individual voice parts, moving chromatic notes and difficult intervals, followed by the glorious, hopeful tenor lines, and the choral parts in a major key around the “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, etc”! I don’t want to get too technical here, but this interpretation-to me-is just too overly safe, pretty and by the book. And it doesn’t move me.
When life returns to normal and we get our Cathedral, college and church choirs back, I suspect this will be a go-to anthem for the memorial services we shall be catching up on...
I've been a fan since the '80's. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've played their video of the Messiah. Christmas would not be the same without the Messiah and "Once in Royal David's City." And Easter is just as special!
This was sung at a college memorial service honoring my father and others who had died the previous year. It's been my favorite ever since. Before that it was Luther's A Mighty Fortress.
I had the privilege of singing this at Mariner's Anglican Church in Detroit, Michigan. If only I could experience the joy of being able to sing again!!
One of my favourite choral pieces ever written..... never fails to give me goosebumps! "and I shall wipe away all tears from their eyes....." glorious!
It was more than 50 years ago that I first heard this choir and was totally blown away by its heavenly sound created by the transparent voices of boys and mens. That sound is now more refined under Mr. David Hyde. Thank you very much for this wonderful music!
Hearing this played during last week's Eucharist was so beautiful. This version is so ethereal, the harmonies absolutely perfect. The voices of the sopranos soar up with such angelic purity. I drew a big circle around it on the pew slip so that I could look it up here on UA-cam. I think I will have to buy the CD.
This my first time I hear this hymn and it really made me to have goosebumps when hearing it. Praise to God for this hymn 🙏🙏🙏 A new heaven will come 😇😇
I have to repeat: This song is so amazing, I've never heard anything more beautiful before! The song is comparable with others like O holy night, Hark the Herald angels sing or Shenandoah, all sung by King'sCC of course. Love your music 💕🏴🎶
I actually sung the same song 8 years ago in the netherlands in a similar choir, and it made me feel like i was there all those years ago singing as a little boy. Amazing to feel this way thanks to you guys!
I had the pleasure of singing this with King's Voices last year. It gave me such a warm feeling to hear that acoustic again in this recording. God, I miss this building and it's incredible organ!
Agreed. It is a pleasure to sing in King's. Everything is just perfectly set up for music making. As you know, this is not always the case in other places.
Monaguillos ,llamados a ser santos que Dios los bendiga para siempre ,los saluda su colega, monaguillo,acólito de catedral San Pedro Diosesis de Matagalpa
This is such a beautiful piece, but it feels and sounds so differently when I sing with a choir and listen to it being sung. I dk why it should be, I’ve never felt that way about other anthems.
Jesus is coming to rapture His church soon. 100s end times Bible prophecies occurring now. Pls talk to Jesus. Faith He died for you will save you from what’s coming. He forgives all who ask. We all need to ask. He loves you greatly.
Except for one section, the piece is not a forceful one. I was told by David Willcocks, many decades ago, that even when the choir is singing fortissimo, you can't use that much of the organ, because the natural microphone of the acoustic magnifies the sound; otherwise, it would obliterate the choir.

teared up at 4:36 - finished.
the sheer beauty of the melody sung by sopranos really hits a lil close to home 🥹✨🩵
I keep coming back to this recording - never fails to move me

BUT!!! Will Sheffield Cathedral?? What has that Dean done?? Please, reverse that decision! IMMEDIATE EFFECT. . . .
I'm pretty sure some evangelical christians are totally okay skipping leg day
Normal isn't coming back....JESUS IS!
THANK YOU LORD JESUS
Listening to this just after hearing of the passing of Queen Elizabeth this morning 9-8-2022.
0:21 sublime harmony......one of my favourite tenor notes EVER!
I have been loving Kings College Choir since my childhood

We were going to sing this in Carlisle, alas we could not. The day we sing this piece again will be a great one
I went on tour to carlisle cathedral last year, do you ever have an audience for when you sing?
@@james.housego - it’s called a congregation.
We're singing it tomorrow in Carlisle, PA, USA! Love from your sister town 💞
Oh this Anthem lets my Heart fly to Jesus ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I love this choir. So beautiful and soothing. Choral church music is wonderful.

Gorgeous rendition, so perfectly English. God bless Bainton, Kings, and the English choral tradition. Thank you! ♥️
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Very beautiful. Daniel Hyde has taken Kings up to a new level.
Superb. Daniel has them singing beautifully.
I can already carefully hear influence - Daniel Hyde
Christ is reason!
I used to sing this in the Choir at Peterborough Cathedral - among many, many other works . . . happy treble days!
So did I! One of my favourites when I was a chorister there 🎵
Love this piece, one of my favorites.
Great work!
This my first time I hear this hymn and it really made me to have goosebumps when hearing it. Praise to God for this hymn 🙏🙏🙏 A new heaven will come 😇😇
A very moving anthem
The best choir of its type in the world without doubt.
Exquisite, sublime, simply beautiful! Bravissimo 👏👏👏💝
This is one of my favourite anthems. Very inspiring. Glad to see that the same quality of sound is continued with a new director.
What a wonderful music and what an overwhelming atmosphere in this chapel!!! 💙💛💜👌🙏
Bringing back memories of singing this as I chorister!
Divine, I was so moved 😥😥
Reminds me something beautiful ❤

Heaven, right here on earth 😓😢
Very lush and moving with marvelous ease. Congrats to the new choirmaster. Also nice to see the choristers and scholars looking engaged.
Thank you for uploading this glorious music. The broadcast will be especially uplifting this year.
Absolute perfection.
They voice are making me be in a good mood 🌅🌅
My choir sang this at my wedding. Wonderful memories.

Очень красиво. Спасибо за прекрасное исполнение.
Gorgeous piece & Gorgeous singing! 💜
Thank you for posting this performance. This female tenor was singing the tenor part from memory.
Wow! Beautiful words and music. And I just noticed the new director of music. Love you guys, Choir of King's College.
Magnificent.
Glorious! That you Daniel for keeping the standard and musicanship of this superb choir.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I’m such a huge fan, but was it live? I mean, broadcasting live during this time was safe for everybody?
No, it's pre-recorded.
KingsCollegeChoir amazing 😉
Easter from King's is usually produced in the same time like Carols from King's (what I know).
The copyright year on the video is 2019

What does it name of this cathedral?
King's College Chapel, Cambridge. It is not a cathedral.

Yes KCC are great, I'd rather have KCC than KFC...
Beautiful singing as usual, its a shame (as at Christmas) that the organ is so subdued though
