This guy has unlocked the fourth quadrant...when you look at short-form pitch movement charts, most of the best mlb changeups are quadrant one (pitch moves to the glove side and ever-so-slightly up), meaning the ball is mostly spinning to the glove side with some backspin. The lack of backspin compared to a fastball gives the pitch less of a Magnus-force in the upward direction, so it does not counter-gravity as much and therefor appears to "drop or fall off the table." Devon Williams' change up actually has forward spin, like a curveball. Insane. This pitch is technically a screwball thrown with a circle-change grip. The movement profile is like a curve-ball from a low-3/4 lefty pitcher, or even a slider, and the spin-rate on that thing is more than a lot of curves. Just insane. It's just not something you are gonna see from another pitcher.
Awesome stuff. Love how you’ve shown off Devin on twitter (and the rest of the Brewers staff in general). Keep up the great work, gonna be a great baseball season!

Exact same grip I used. I eventually switched to more of an across two-seam type grip. Two-seam change-up would cut with low-seam pro baseballs. Bury ball in middle & ring finger & upper palm area of hand. But remember to just keep a firm grip with fingers. Don’t choke it. Throw like you would throw a fastball. Just with different fingers. Keep fingers on top of baseball at release out front. Use other fingers/thumb to create different pressure points. Do a drill where you kill your backside when throwing change-up, do it during long-toss & side-sessions(it forces you to create Fastball arm action). Different grip. Fastball mindset. Let the grip do the work.
I feel like I can't say it enough. Pitching Ninja has been my baseball passion rebirth. Thank you Rob.

It's practically a screwball.....I hope it's not hard ob his arm
If he's been throwing it since he was a kid, he probably had already made the release something very natural to him.
Pronation is much easier in your arm
Baseball is the greatest sport on this earth. Pitching is an art, and this channel truly accentuates how awesome the art of pitching really is

He wouldn’t call his pitch a screwball?

Thats a screwball, which is actually so cool since no one else throws one these days.
I'm guessing this is just part of the interview. Is there a full length version somewhere?
I haven't released the full version. It's 1:15 so it's long. Trying to break these up into more manageable pieces.
Love to see Ceasars Valdez or atleast a breakdown. Not the greatisttt numbers this year but thats a sloppy fish change up right there

He spoke facts baseball is the only sport that wants the players to be boring robots
Devin looks like George Springer!
And the pitching ninja looks like Mick Foley !
@@nelsoncruz184 not even close
while i was watching i picked up a ball and tried to grip it the same way he did at 0:25 with just the middle and ring finger, its super hard to do.
Great stuff.. thank you
