Dassault rafale is france origin twin engine, canard delta wing multirole fighter aircraft. it is equipped with weapons for air supremacy,ground support, deep strike and anti ship srtike mission. Dassault Aviation manufacturers this aircraft since 1986 to present. they refer rafale as omnirole fighter jet for its vast range of capabilities.
in 1970s france were seeking for a multirole fighter aircraft for their future navy and air force program. thats why they entered future european fighter aircraft program , later named eurofighter typhoon. but eurofighter typhoon was not completing all the requirements france wanted , that's why france pursuit of its own fighter development programme. france's major defeence contractors dassault, thales and safran jointly developed rafale.
rafale has advanced and simpler glass cockpit with hand on throttle and stick system.
two snecma m88 afterburning turbofan engine by safran is used for dassault rafale. each engine has a 50 kilo newton dry thrust and 75 kilo newton afterburning thrust.those engine can help the aircraft to reach a maximum speed of 1912 kilometer per hour or mach 1.8 at high altitude, and 1390 kilometer per hour or 1.1 at low altitude. those powerful engine can supercruise at mach 1.4 . it has a combat range of 1850 kilometer with three drop tank, and ferry range of 3700 kilometer with 3 drop tank. rafale fighter jet can be operated by 1 or 2 crew member. it has a length of 15.27 meter, wingspan of 10.9 meter , height of 5.34 meter and wing area of 45.7 meter square. rafale has a max takeoff weight of 24500 kilogram, thats why it can carry 9500 kilogram of, ordnance and external fuel on its 14 hardpoint.
rafale uses a 30 millimeter giat 30 autocannon with 125 rounds of ammunition.
m b d a maika , meteor and magic 2 is used for rafale air to air mission with a range of upto 200 kilometer. m b d a apache , storm shadow scalp , hammer ,paveway as 30l and mark 82 is used for air to ground mission with a range of 3 to 560 kilometer. it can carry 70 kilometer range of exocet anti ship missile. and asmp a nuclear missile.
it can carry thales targeting pod, reconnaissance pod ,and multifunction pod. it is capable of carrying 5 drop tank, and able to do buddy buddy or air to air refueling.
rafale uses Thales rbe2 aa aesa radar ,which can detect stealth fighter from long range. it uses thales spectra electronic waarfare system . it has a radar cross section of 0.5 to 2 square meter.rafale uses thales optronique secteur frontal infra red search and track system.
many operation was led by rafale along with united states aircraft carriers and fighters.rafale striked on libya, mali, iraq and syria.
since now 240 aircraft were built,and used and ordered by 8 countries. rafale is also in many countries wishlist for its performance and popularity.
