New Cath Lab RN here! Had my first balloon pump on my fifth day circulating a case haha. This video is super informative and easy to understand! Thank you! :)
Haha yes! I wanted to do IABP but figured it was best to do art lines before I got into talking about changes to that waveform with a balloon pump going 😉
Love this! Can you please do a less on the nurse in CTICU/CVICU? for example - cabg, AAA, transvenous/transcutaneous pacemakers, pulmonary artery catheter?
Glad you liked it Gabriela! I do plan to cover those topics, although I do already have a whole series on Temporary Pacers. ua-cam.com/video/kDaOhQOoYy0/v-deo.html
Thank you! Looking forward to the rest of this series. We very rarely have IABP in the unit and trying to relearn the in’s and outs for that one time a year you have one is daunting
I have a question, as you said one of the indication is: MI which I am assuming a MI with hypotension, what is the different between MI with hypotension and Cariogenic shock ?? Thank You
could you cover impella’s and lvad’s? i use them a lot in my icu and more information and different perspectives are always helpful. i really enjoy your videos thanks for making them!
Hi @ICU Advantage great explanation! I see 5 electrodes(7 Lead ECG) is used normally. Why not 12 lead ECG is used? Over specs, will cause interference with balloon/pressure sensing or something else?
The x-ray where you say it is in the correct position does not have the tip of the catheter anywhere close to the 2nd&3rd intercostal space so how is that correct?
@@ICUAdvantage Ohhh man that is a mind trip - it still appears lower than what I'm used to seeing but I see what you're saying! Thanks for the response.
Awesome vid! I just took my hospital balloon pump class yesterday so your videos are a great memory retainer! Do you think you can also make a video about LVADs? In particular the Impella? Thanks!

lol, comes with practice! Keep looking at them and having someone show you things. Its obviously not as clear on here, but even just rewind a bit and see where I drew then look right before my drawing starts to try and see what I'm looking at.

I'm a flight nurse who maybe sees' one or two of these a year so this series is an excellent clear and concise video to get me up to speed. Thank you
Awesome man! Glad you found it helpful. Simple enough, but if you just don't see them a bunch it definitely helps to stay refreshed. Be safe man!
You got it! As an engineer for the IABP (Maquet/datascope), this is a good video.
Very cool! Thanks for stopping in and glad you liked the video!
Trained on IABP a few months back. I work in a 12 bed ICU and haven’t had much exposure. This lesson is a good refresher! Thank you!!
Awesome! Glad you found it helpful!
Perfect timing! Actually being trained on IABP and Impella. I wonder if maybe you can do videos on Impella/LVADs? Love the content!
Yes! I've got both on the todo list!

Haha yes! I wanted to do IABP but figured it was best to do art lines before I got into talking about changes to that waveform with a balloon pump going 😉

Thank you for doing these videos! I work in cvicu and your videos have help tremendously. Can you do one on Impella?
So glad to hear they’ve been helpful for you Kate. And yes I do have impellas and more on the todo list!
Very well explained ❤
could you cover impella’s and lvad’s? i use them a lot in my icu and more information and different perspectives are always helpful. i really enjoy your videos thanks for making them!
Thank you, Eddie!
Can you say me please why we inflate the balloon with helium? Not CO2, or O2 please
Thanks and I just answered that for you on another comment :)
Is ecg necessary before inserting iabp?
can you also cover impella? thanks!
Yup! On the todo list!
Hi @ICU Advantage great explanation!
I see 5 electrodes(7 Lead ECG) is used normally. Why not 12 lead ECG is used? Over specs, will cause interference with balloon/pressure sensing or something else?
We only use 12-lead when deeper anaylis. It can be done without issue though. Typically a 5-lead is all that we use for routine monitoring.
This was so helpful, thank you so much!!
any evidence that supports, if a patient has a left ventricle thrombosis, when the pump is removed, could that cause a stroke to occur?
Many many thanks for such nice lecture ❤
Thank you so much, the Lesson was very easy to understand and helpful.
Really glad to hear this Arsenio!
Thank you for this video! Can you also make an impella video. Thanks
Yes! It's on the todo this! Glad you liked it.
So do the renal arteries get perfused on diastole or systole?
Amazing illustration
Thank you!
Will you be doing lessons on the Impella?
So IABP is to decrease after load cardiac 02 demand while increasing coronary perfusion? Is that a why to sum it up ?
Exactly!
Thank you! Still hoping for an Impella video🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
perfect explanation
The x-ray where you say it is in the correct position does not have the tip of the catheter anywhere close to the 2nd&3rd intercostal space so how is that correct?
Make sure you are looking at the anterior rib shadows and not the more prominent posterior coming off the spine... 😉
@@ICUAdvantage Ohhh man that is a mind trip - it still appears lower than what I'm used to seeing but I see what you're saying! Thanks for the response.
Thank you! Can't wait for the next episode.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the perfect explanation
Yay glad you think so!
Awesome vid! I just took my hospital balloon pump class yesterday so your videos are a great memory retainer! Do you think you can also make a video about LVADs? In particular the Impella? Thanks!
Glad to hear it Ken! And yes I do have both of those on the todo list for the future sometime.

Very useful thank u
Glad to hear it!!
Why is Helium used and no other gas like O2?
I think because of how light it is, its very easy to quickly inflate and deflate.
Good job
Thank you!
