This shows the mastery that each band member has of their instrument. Keith a powerhouse on drums, John the wizard on bass, Pete's guitar and organ/synth artistry , and Roger with that VOICE, and that SCREAM!. And it all comes together to create this masterpiece.
Very true!
Don’t forget the lyrics!
@@tomh8344 Oh yes. The lyrics are true year in year out.
They also had a keyboard player, I think he wanted to stay unknown.
@@johnnybeebe1136 Rabbitt Bundrick. Had a drinking problem.
Keith Moon's drumming is so unorthodox and explosive. He was truly one of a kind. 💥
This is an insightful song about society, government and how things never REALLY change. They just get moved around and history repeats itself! ("Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.")
Good way of putting it
Oh, hell yeah.
"The parting on the left is now a parting on the right." Like you say, things don't really change, they just look different and they WANT us to think it's changed.
Yep, they had their revolution and new Constitution and, what happened? "Meet the new boss... same as the old boss." I laugh when people say this song glorifies revolution. Yep, you were fooled again.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
This song is among the most recognized and lasting examples in classic rock. A true classic rock anthem, for many reasons.
Arguably the best rock song ever. The epitome of what rock means
Exactly right.
Thanks Greg!
Personally I would say I Can See For Miles is the best rock song ever.
I’d add Gimme Shelter to your list, if I may.

If this song isn't just as relevant today, even more so than it was 50 years ago, I'll eat my hat! Lots of people around the world are fed up and saying "we won't get fooled again!" Hopefully, it's not too little too late. Fantastic reaction you guys! For a Who song even MORE epic than this one, you must check out the original studio version of LOVE, REIGN O'ER ME.
Yes. Love Reign O'er Me is required listening.
Agreed! I wrote some of the lyrics as a quote I made on a Telegram post.
👍👍👍👍👍✌🏻✌🏻
Ahh, you guys did this song! Now I ask you, isn't Roger Daltry's ear-piecing, soul-shaking scream the best scream in rock and roll history? 😉
Now try "Love Reign O'er Me" for more Daltry screams!!
Hard to beat ," My Generation ". maximum R & B was their early slogan.
I agree the scream is great but, try Ian Gillan on Woman from Tokyo by Deep Purple! That is a Rock n Roll scream!
@@jesusgarcia-xf9ge Oh Ian Gillan has a legendary voice and legendary screams in many songs! I'll have to check out that one. I should know it because Made in Japan was one of the first albums I ever owned!
Yes definitely the best scream in Rock history! The first and still the best!!!!
The whole album Who's Next is really good. And they finished it with Won't Get Fooled Again. That's how you walk off.
Damn Right!!!
Who’s Next has been one of my favourite albums for the last 50 years.
How true, they would usually end their set with it.
'Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss": the best last line to a song ever, and oh so true.
A song full of political anger, and one of the greatest SCREEEEAMS in the history of Rock and Roll. Thank you Roger Daltry, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon.
That scream is one of the most iconic moments in rock...period!!! You guys are awesome!
You should react to The Who performing Won't Get Fooled Again live at Shepperton Studios. They recorded that live performance for their film The Kids Are Alright. The ending is amazing with absolute chaos on the stage!
They knew how to put on a show that's for sure. Keith Moon was a riot 👌
You can tell Keith Moon is declining in that film. His drumming is weak and he has trouble keeping up. He died not long after that.
I never see him mentioned much as an all-time great, but everyone I know that has seen guitarist Pete Townshend play live tells me it was the most memorable performance of their lifetime. I press the like button for this stuff for sure.
Agree, saw them in Amsterdam 1972, never heard a more beautiful sound, verry loud. Best rockband ever. Only band that comes near the volume of The Who was Thin Lizzy.
👍🎵from Holland
The incomparable Keith Moon on drums. How I wish that guy had stuck around longer!
Glancing through the comments, I thought I read "the incomparable Keith Moon on drugs". 🤣🤣 After rereading it, I got your message right but thought, "either one is probably correct". 🤣🤣
You have to remember when this was written. The end of the '60s/beginning of the '70s. The entire planet was in turmoil. Vietnam, Kent State massacre, bombings, Kkdnappings. The KKK was on the warpath bombing black churches. I was just a kid but I remember that shit well. It was crazy. The revolution everyone wanted was for Peace and Love and Equality for all. This song is saying that is a grand idea but let's hope and pray we don't get fooled again by the warmongering hate merchants. Alas... we got fooled again and again and again. The line "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" is the essence of the song. Yes, lets make changes but lets also be cautious who and what we put in place...
Also, this is my favorite Who song. Because it is so universal and political. Every one in every country can relate to the meet the new boss line. That is like a universal truth. :)
The way BJ was rocking out and singing along he would have been right at home at a 1970s live Who concert.
as a member of the old generation I feel we are in good hands with young people like you! you "get it" in terms of what the song stood for, thank you and keep goin!
"You know that the hypnotized never lies" enough said.
And then about 10 seconds later, hidden in the music you can hear Pete sing "Do ya?". When they perform it live, Pete screams "DO YA???"
Perfectly structured song, and lyrics mean as much now as they did and unfortunately they will forever.
Crazy how relevant this song still is!!!
Listen to this Who song at least 4 times. Focus on John Entwistle's bass once, then Keith Moon's manic drumming the next. They were often like 4 bandmates who were all playing lead.
Absolutely! Was gonna say the same thing. The musicianship of each one of them was incredible.
The OX!!!
The modern day equivalent of this band is Band-Maid. Another awesome rock band that doesn’t make a bad album.
As long as you are on the album Who's Next, open your ears to BEHIND BLUE EYES or GOING MOBILE. The album set a standard that opened up the 7o's to the sound of synthesizers and brought a new landscape to rock music. Roger, Pete, John and Keith established themselves as the loudest band in the world going forward without forgetting about substance with this work.
"Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss" one of the best last lines in rock history.
This is definitely my favorite album from The Who! I love that both are jamming to some old classic rock
Keith's drumming is just off the charts on this track.
The great Keith Moon working that kit!
It's hard to imagine anyone never hearing this tune. It's considered one of the all-time rock anthems.
Or at least be exposed. It’s the theme to one of those popular crime shows that are/were EVERYWHERE! CSI?
One of the greatest Rock albums ever made.
like the sayings says, the more things change, the more they stay the same. great song.
The drumming by Keith Moon on this track is absolutely mind blowing, I wore out 3 vinyl albums of Who's Next
"Meet the new Boss.... same as the old Boss." is probably the most rock and roll line ever written.
If it was written today it would say..meet the new boss, way worse than the old boss.
👍👍👍
I'm 59 with a Who tattoo on my heart .Been rockin with them since I was 11 This is my anthem . Long Live The Who
The most iconic yell in all of Rock & Roll.
Followed by one of the most iconic lyrics in the history of Rock & Roll: "Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss".
One of the greatest albums in rock ever, every track is a winner on this LP, like so many others in the 60's/70's.
The Who said this was their weakest album to date, Daltrey stating "I felt we lost one ballock."
They were one of the greatest, and most innovative rock band ever, even though their drummer was in real life mentally unbalanced.
One of the Leading bands of the British Invasion and possibly my favorite. Roger`s voice is unmistakable and crazy powerful!
I believe Pete Townsend wrote all the music on this album for a film he wanted to make called "Lifehouse." All the songs fit into his concept about some post apocalyptic world . The rest of the band didn't really get it and the film was never made, but Townsend 's songs made for one of the best rock albums ever recorded.
I can’t imagine how cool it would be to hear this song for the first time now. It might even ring more true than when I first heard it back in the early 70’s.
The last line in the song tells the whole truth. Then, now, and always.
Has there ever been a shorter lyric, that still encompassed more all-consuming indictment of reality than "Meet the new boss. same as the old boss"? Absolutely brilliant.
My favorite album. Every song is freaking great!
1971,….Who’s Next, Led Zep lV, Sticky Fingers. , Fragile were all released. Talk about a great year…Fast forward 2021, there is not one album that’s half as good as any of these.
Mine too
Back in 1971 my neighbours LOVED this song They used to bang on the wall in time to Moonies drums
LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!! 🤟 Going to see them for the 100th time in Philly on May 20!! 🤟
I am a Who man from way back. This has been my music since my school days. I'm now 70 and still jamming with them.
Real music with real meaning !
Anybody who has heard this song knows the greatest ROCK Scream of all time happens after the synth trip. Everybodie's thinkin'; "Wait for it, WAIT FOR IT.....!!" YEEEEEEEE-AAAAAAAAAAH!
10:13 to 11:20 is the most exhilarating passage in all of rock music. When I hear this in my car, I pound the shit out of my steering wheel when the drums kick in. Fifty years after first hearing it, the song still gives me chills and thrills.
I’m impressed with your insights. I lived in these times (67 yo), and they were very volatile indeed. For the first time, everyday people were questioning everything that that they had grown up believing. Love your channel.
Love Reign O’er Me is Daltreys best vocal performance imo.
Check it out,you’ll love it.
Nice review Guys, of this classic song, that I've known all my life. The Who once played in my local pub, just down the road from me, in Southampton, England, in the 60's, when they were known as The High Numbers, before they were famous. I did'nt get to see them,as I was only about 9 years old, and pubs were a no-go area for youngsters in those days !
Cool story 😎
@Vern Sherris I used to have that album, but I don't know which pub featured in the inner sleeve photo, probably a London one.The pub I mentioned was the Cliff Hotel, which is next to the Itchen Bridge on Google maps, and is in loads of really old photos of Woolston, Southampton c1850. It's still there, but it's been converted to flats.
You two are awesome!
Thanks for getting it.
This song is relevant then and relevant now.
I remember going to the record store with my friend to buy this album. We played it about 50 times. Great rock anthem.
…and I remember the 8 track thing with my brother.
My favorite song from The Who!!! Awesome, awesome!
The greatest scream in rock history. Everything about this song is outstanding.
BJ. You nailed the analysis of the song! RIP Keith Moon and John Entwhistle who's drumming and bass playing were phenomenal! Check out Quadraphenia...a masterpiece.
Written in the early 70’s about the unrest of the sixties! Showing the brilliance of this great band! THE WHO!! Awesome to have you guys discover how great they were and are, def go see them live!
I love seeing new generations experience these old gems! It's obvious you two get it, too! The groove and the message.
Great reaction guys, and it was obvious that you were both totally into the music as well as the words - I always like to hear what reactors make of the music, the playing etc - especially on a song which was so innovative in the way it used synthesizers and indeed a proto version of sequencers; Pete Townshend was really pushing the envelope in terms of production, and I'd have liked to hear from you what you made of that (and Keith Moon's crazy energetic drumming!).
You guys got it! Trust me do the whole album! It’s a Masterpiece, start with Behind Blue Eyes
Look out the Shepperton Studios live version of this. It is fantastic! The Who were known as the most exciting live band in the World!
This is great to see.. the couple who are reacting to the song grasp what it is really about.
One of greatest rock bands of all time. Remember they are British so referring more to UK than here in terms of message
Great reaction guys. What a song. Timeless in the message and the awesome delivery by arguably the greatest rock band of them all. More Who please guys!
Cool to see you guys feel the vibe of this older music, this came out when we were young and I can see you feel what we felt when it was new
Most unpredictably satisfying drum fills since The Beatles "She said She said".
One of my first favorite songs as a kid in the 70's. John Entwistle's bass playing made me want to play too, even as a kid. The ehole album is worth owning - damn near perfect rock album.
I first saw The Who when they toured ti back up this LP in the early '70s and I was just as stunned as you are. I was only 17.
John Entwitsle bass playing is genius. Always have loved listening to him play.
Asia & BJ, great review! Check out Love Reign O'er Me, it's an absolute masterpiece by The Who. Very dramatic with amazing vocals.
Yes. And yes
really glad you guys liked this one....truth....I grew up on this stuff.
The trance organ at the end and the lyric "the hypnotised never lie", and then " meet the new boss ..."
I did not know this extra long version existed. I'm used to the radio version.
Saw them in concert 30 years ago with the Clash.....so awesome
Pete Townsend did this song and a few others with just him and a guitar for the Secret Policeman's Ball for amnesty international. All songs are great
Thanks you two. Pete Townshend, one of the best. I remember my older sister playing See Me Feel Me (The Who, Tommy) at her 'hippie' parties, over and over. 😄
thank you for the reaction -- love this song and still keep voting hoping things will change -- forever optimist -- smiles and love to you both
The drummer of this band is the one who came up with the name "Led Zeppelin." 🎸☮️
The greatest scream in rock history.
My favorite band… You’re correct the sun came out in the early 70s right after the peace and love movement which didn’t exactly end up in peace and love it ended up in war but they are British and after all that they just wanted to play their music
Hi ya, Asia & BJ!! This song came out in the late 70's, and it's a political song, and still relevant today! Rockin song that makes you wanna vote!! Keep em' coming!! 👍😎👍
Right. Listening to the whole lp takes you back.
I've watched several of your reactions now, what a perfect couple you make. Respect!
This song in particular, and all Who songs should be watched LIVE!!!
Two live songs by Hall & Oates are not to be missed. !991, Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On?,1991, and Every Tim You Go Away, 1995. WOW!
Their songs are always appropriate to what has been going on in society from 60s to today..
Won't get fooled again is the greatest rock anthem ever!
Had this album on my turntable for a year straight.
1975.
The who were one of the monster band of the golden age.
This is without a doubt one of the most important albums of Great rock era.
The who ,were a kickass band, when the Beatles had quit.
When disco was taking over,
Through it all, they had the best band.
Move ahead, many years, and listen to GOODBYE SISTER DISCO.
I'm 70 years old and grew up 12 miles from Woodstock in upstate New York, Music had a big influence on my life. The Who was my favorite band back in the seventies ( and still ranks in the top three ).
Daltrey,Entwistle, Townshend,Moon....they were superb...loved Keith Moon, mad as a box of fish
Notice that album cover… They pissed on the concrete pillar… which there are several stories going around… but the one I read YEARS AGO clearly stated that this represented pissing on “the powers that be.”
Outstanding song. I saw The Who live in concert in Miami years ago. They sounded so good live.
Great f**kin' reaction! Already subscribed (because of your Dimash reactions) but now also "Notified"! Thanks. Love you guys.
GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!! "Bad Company" Live Paul Rogers 2018 & Elvis American Trilogy!
This song was used as the intro and ending of the TV show "CSI Miami".
First time I seen them in concert was in 1976 at Anaheim Stadium in California. It was a all day event and the Who came on last in the evening. Best concert I've ever been at, and the loudest too.
Prophetic words and brilliant music are grenades in the hands of free people
I've played this classic 4 times on different sites now to see reactions. One of the greats - with 'Sympathy for the devil' that you've covered - and when Moon kicks in at the end!
You can listen to the song in 1971, new boss, same as the old boss. You can listen to it in 2022, new boss, same as the old boss. The who were master musicians with great conceptual and lyrical themes. What more can you ask for?
Glad that you got it spot on about the songs content, the proof that the message in the song is real is that the words are relavant today
Great song! Made history of sorts...When released as a single before a US tour radio stations requested a shorter version of 3 minutes or less because of their need to play commercials...The Who refused and the rest is history!
