What a great song! Songs that remind me to behold Christ are always welcome. Life moves so fast, and the pace I currently live can be a distraction from truly communing with and abiding in our Lord. Anyone else struggle with this? In the end, the best place we can be is abiding in the vine, which is Christ. Reading God’s word, praying, singing and spending time with his people are most profitable for us. We must make these a priority.
This song has presented me with small challenges through the years. I really want to wrench on the tremolo arm during the turn, because it sounds really great; but I have to remember that making that specific part sound the way I want will jeopardize the tuning for the upcoming part where I double the vocal. #tremarmlife
Additionally, during the turn, I really want to rake the strings hard to make it grind, but that can cause the G to vibrate against the nail on my ring finger, which makes a not-so-pleasant sound. 🤢
This is the cleanest I’ve played this part through the years, and it’s because I chose to make those adjustments in favor of keeping my guitar in tune and not risking unwanted noise.
This is the balance we have to strike and the awareness we need to develop. I’m still working on this aspect of my playing. One thing that has really helped is tracking myself every week, so I can listen back with a critical ear. “This feels good to play” is not the same as “This sounds good when I play it.” What feels good to play isn’t necessarily the best way to approach this thing. I’ve learned that the hard way through the years! Anyone else?! 😂 🙋‍♂️
🎸 Fiesta with Lambertones Grinder in the bridge and Crema in the neck
🎛️ Greer Amps lightspeed for the driven parts; Jackson Audio Prism for the clean stuff. I cut lows and add highs with a clean boost, because I like that “sting” from the neck pickup.

“Make up your mind that to behold the glory of God by beholding the glory of Christ is the greatest privilege which is given to believers in this life. This is the dawning of heaven. It is the first taste of that heavenly glory which God has prepared for us, for this is eternal life, to know the Father and Jesus Christ whom he has sent (John 17:3).” - John Owen
