v2 worked like a charm. 2018 Brz, I did have a newer version of the lights as the green wire on mine was actually blue but followed the video and it worked. Initially the triangle didnt come on, but after adjusting the red wire in the t tap connector, everything was good.
Still working like a charm? I’ve got a 2020 BRZ, and was thinking about doing version 3 wiring, but I like the version 2 flash more, but a lot of the old comments of people having issues with v2 has me a bit concerned.
2017 86 here, v2 worked great (with the car "on" in accessory AND while it is running). I also used a plug and play harness (uses two factory connectors and has the two taillight and brake wires spliced in) so I did not use any T-Taps or Positaps.

Very helpful video. I have a Velanti brand LED but the boards are different. Green wire is now solid blue. I guess the new batch of Valenti 4th brake lights changed a bit. This modification is way easier if you are familiar with electrical knowledge.
Yeah once you break down what each wire does, making it do what you want is easy! I'd love to get my hands on a new one just to see what the differences are.
Charles Pages, not many changes. Only the wires are soldered differently. Btw the reverse LEDs suck. I wanted to change them out but I don't know what I can use to replace them
Yes, p[us good soldering technique - which is harder than it may look in this video which was done by someone who knows how to do it. Having seen multiple soldering jobs gone awry, I suggest having someone who does know how yo properly solder do the work inside the light.
Version 2 failed to work on my '15 FRS (extremely dim stop triangle), so 20 minutes later with the soldering iron under the rear of the car, I had version 3 working fine.
I’m having the same issue with version 2. When I connect the brake triangle wire to the car’s running light wire it appears to blink/light up properly (full brightness) but when I connect it to the brake light wire it doesn’t blink and appears dim when the brake is applied. Any ideas?
@@chazpages Hello, I have a version 2 problem with a twist. I wired everything up in the garage, it all works as advertised. Now I don’t know which wires I have to connect from the 4th brake light to the tail lights. As of right now I have the 3 wire on the 4th brake light as well as that spare wire
You'll have 3 wires hooked up to a tail light (doesn't matter which one) and one wire go to the reverse harness. You'll need to determine which wire powers what. You should only need to tap into 2 of the wires on the taillight. Also, it sounds like you have the valenti tail lights as well? You'll need to figure out which wire is the brake light, and which wire is the running lights. You'll then tap in the reverse light harness wires to these spots.
Did you End up finding Which one to Connect to? I ran Into the same issue, ended up disconnecting my reverse and finally getting back to it a year later. Also, @CharlesPage Well Done With response and Instructions
I found in internet the solution to the Version 2 problem. The issue is that the break line is divided between the 2 taillights and the 3rd break light and doesn't give enough power to the 4th break light (Valenti). Because of that the Valenti break light doesn't flash like Version 2 should. I tested the soldering by connecting the Valenti's to straight to battery and they worked like intended but when connected to break line it wouldn't flash and instead give out a dim light. To fix this I set up a relay and ran the power directly from the battery (I connected to the factory amp wire since it has a 12V always on in one of the wires). And it worked. My only issue is that the relay i have makes a clicking noise everytime i hit the breakes. So now I will need to look into getting a relay that is quite
For those that don't follow this on ft86club, a solid state relay should allow this to function, without the "click." You will still have the clicking inside the cabin however (just like all cars). amzn.to/2IUxAXx

I just installed mine today and got everything to work great. I used option 3 without any troubles. Thanks a lot for this great video! The only thing I can't figure out is how the heck do you put the Plastic Rivets back on? I might be asking a very dumb question but I just can not figure out how to push those black small plastic rivets back on? Please help if you can? I really appreciate it and I am really sorry for asking the most dumbest question. Maybe I am doing something wrong?
Hey glad to hear you got it installed! As for the rivets, if it's the ones I'm thinking of that you pop the middle part out and pull, install is "easy." Pop the tabs back out, and it should make the inside part easier to push into the hole. Once it's in (lol) push the middle of the tab in, and it will lock in place. Sometimes you have to sort of work it in there. You will not be able to install them if the center of the tab rivet is popped in.
Man it sucks that version 2 doesn’t work on mine. It’s wired up right now to work on that version. I think I’m gonna take it out of the bumper and solder the wires in the light while it’s still wired and see if the lights work the way I wanted it to.
why did you make changes before you started version 2 wiring? if red + green and separating orange and black is V2? then what does attaching red to green do?
It's been a while, but attaching red and green (I THINK) will make it so the running light and brake are separate and it won't flash unless you pulse/step and release the brake.
how can i do this: "V" as the running day lights (parkers). Triangle off completely and only on when fogs are actually applied Reverse as normal. No breaking light at all. If this isnt possible, how can i remove the triangle light completely?
In order for the brake(triangle) light to flash you need to have the “fog” connected to your brake light and a delayed 12v signal going to the “Stop” on the back of the light.
Do you think it's possible to replace the fog leds with white ones and connect them to the reverse? And perhaps replace all the white leds with something brighter?
Its funny. Ive done as per your video. It works when the engine doesnt starts (On mode). Not doing anything, it'll only light the V. Pressing the brake, the triangle flashes and goes solid. But once the engine started, the V works, but the triangle just dims with very little illumination (as if there isnt enough current into the leds). No flash no solid light. Please help @charles
Ugh. I saw you commented on the forums, but I just got onto the computer. I have NO idea why it does this, and it really is irritating to me. Which version rewire did you do?
I have the same problem. Guessing you are also living in australia. Wondering if this is an AUDM difference that is causing this... did changing to version 3 fix for you?
I can't seem to find install instructions so I have to ask, if I just install normally without rewiring where do I connect the separate red wire that is next to the harness? Thank you!
Sorry for delay-holidays! Anyway, the red wire needs to go to the brake light (driver or passenger-it doesn't matter). There are 4 wires in the plugs for the tail light, you need to tap the one that has (+) when the brakes are applied. I don't recall the color. If you have valenti lights however, its the "red" wire from out of the valenti brake light.
Hello, are you still operating on this channel? I havr a question for the version 2. I have valenti tail ligjts as well as the third brake light. After doing the wiring on the third brake light, what wires do i connect from the third brake light to the tail light? Thank you!
I am but I no longer have the FRS. There is a 4 pin connector at both tail lights, you'll need to tap that (except for the reverse-that is under the black cover where the trunk latches/locks). I forget the wiring colors, but there is only 4. Ground, running, brake, blinker.
What should the blue wire connect to? The brake light or running lights? And same for the red which does it go to? I’m attempting this with the Valenti Revo tail lights
Hey quick question. I tried to wire the version 2 but the triangle brake light ended up being the running light and the "v" turned on only when I pressed the brake. They're essentially reversed.
Hey Charles, Ive done V2 and the problem is that the triangle and the v are opposite. The v comes on with the brake and the triangle stays on with the running lights.
so i have a rather weird question. I wired mine up like you shown for version 2. everything works properly other than the brake light. when the red wire is connected to the brake switch wire it comes on extremely dim. if i connect the red wire to the parking light wire it does the flash and stays solid like it should. i even connected it to the turn signal wire just for shit and giggles and it works. but once again on the brake wire. its not working. i was fiddling with it for a while and it eventually started to work. turns out it only worked when i had low battery power. so with that in mind i tried a resistor in line and still nothing. so now i am completely stumped. if you have any knowledge on how to help with this issue id greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
ugh...I've run into this issue 3 times now (yours is the 3rd) and I DON'T KNOW WHY. I spent several hours chasing my tail on this. Whats weird is if you bench test (like use a power supply) it works fine. Put it in the car, and run it off the car wiring and it doesn't. I just don't friggin know. I think its vehicle specific even (the day I wasted 5 hours trying to diagnose, it would NOT work in my car, but it would work fine installed on another...). As you figured out, it has something to do with resistance, but again, no idea why. It could have something to do internally of the light (different brand resistor/other tiny electrical thing on the board)...but ultimately, I don't know and the electrical people I spoke to about it didn't know either. The issue is light specific, which is why I think there is/was a slight change in parts (not necessarily older or newer, just they swapped out one piece for another during assembly) Version 3 will work for you, however. I'll have to add an edit to the video-but I know Modbargains doesn't even offer version 2 anymore since we would have no idea if a light would do this or not. I would bench test every single one that was shipped out, but after this issue was discovered, we made only version 3 an option. Makes no sense to me. 1. Mod light (version 2) 2. Bench test light-it works! 3. Install light-it doesn't work? wtf Sorry Andrew, I know this is frustrating. I was losing it the day that I discovered this problem. I'm no electrical expert, but I was rather upset that something simple could not be figured out.
okay cool if version 3 will work then i will just set it up that way. i was just mind boggled and couldn't figure out why the hell it wouldn't work. I'm honestly just glad to hear I'm not the only person that has had this issue. I really appreciate the quick response as well. EDIT: if yall ever find a solution to this Id REALLY like to know how to take care of it. or if i figure it out i will let yall know
Correct, version 3 has been 100% work rate when wired properly. I am boggled by the version 2 gremlin as well. It just doesn't make sense lol. Depending on where you bought it from, you could try swapping it out (I wouldn't mention why...since opening voids warranty). It's light specific, I did dozens of these for ModBargains, and I only ran into this issue twice.
Hey i know this is an old video but i got this 4th break light and i really dislike the blinking, i dont have the heating pistol or tin metal to do the kalai process, so what is the easiest way to just have the V light up with daytime lights and the triangle(brake) light not to light at all? Lastly since i wont need the triangle brake light i wont need to tap the tailights with the 4th brake light correct?
I was wondering if you had come across how to achieve the following? Triangle: fog light only V light: comes on with breaking only Reverse: comes on with reverse only I love the light but can't find any tutorials as to how to achieve the above! Any help super appreciated! Thanks
First, I'd do version 3-no flashing. V light-hook the "blue wire" FROM the valentines reverse light to the red wire (should be red) of one of the tail lights (left or right doesn't matter). Reverse-this SHOULD be the regular plug and play connector/harness. The wire is teal/green. Out of the box it should only come on when reverse lights are on. Triangle...this is what @andrew bailey was dealing with yesterday. This is the "red" wire from the valentines reverse light. Hook this wire to whatever wire has positive (+) when the rear fog is on. You guys have a wire running to the back of the car for this, right? IIRC you guys have a factory rear fog light, which means you have wiring there.
Hello ! I'm in the same case. I need to have the triangle light up very bright to have it act as my rear for light, when I turn it on. Did you find a solution ? Thanks.
OK. I found the solution to the Version 2 problem.
Hmm, that might just be it. It would certainly explain why bench testing works just fine, but in car it doesn't work. Very odd that it needs THAT much power, though. It still doesn't make sense to me that it doesn't get enough power, when if hooked up out of the box/like normal it has enough power to light up and blink. I wonder if something like amzn.to/2qrJCcT would work/be quiet though.
I used a normal relay from a nearby autozone. However, I am really not happy with the clicking sound that it makes every time I press and release the brakes. The one you showed is only 0.5A. I am not sure if that will be enough. Currently looking at getting some solid state relays but having hard time finding a right one for 12VDC currents with about 5-10A
Out of the box, the light will flash. Shown at 13 seconds. Basically, the triangle and the "v" both light up, but when you hit the brakes, the middle triangle flashes. This mod makes it so the middle triangle only lights up when braking. Ver 2 or ver 3 tell it to flash or just turn on.
I have mine setup for version 2, it almost lights up as should... Reverse light work, V light works (Running light), brake and V light (running light) works but brake without the V is very dim and hard to see. Inside the wires are all soldered the same & I have Valenti brake lights too so have the blue wires both linked and both reds linked. why is the brake alone soo dim?
I did the V2 and I’m confused because I’m an electronics technician... so my Issue is when the car is not in but accessories are it works perfectly but when I turn the engine over it doesn’t work anymore
i have same problem, when car is off with just lights on V2 works as it should but when car is on the middle part have a very weak blinking and glowing...it just doesnt makes any sense why it does that.
How would the wiring work for the Valenti Revo taillights? For version 3? It’s a lot different from your typical Valenti taillights. I need help with this please!?
@@ep_140 I have the same taillights. Did you ever figure it out? Also will any cheap soldering gun work? I'm not tryna spend alot of a soldering gun ha
with the version 3 wiring will the brake light work when the brakes are pressed without the lights being turned on? Or do the lights have to be on for the brake light to work?
Only at the end of this video. Basically install it in the factory location, and run the wire loom into the trunk area. You'll have to tap 2 wires on ONE of the tail lights. The brake wire, and the running light wire. I would suggest solder and NOT t taps.
Hey, just want to ask because I have a gt86 and it doesn't have the fog light option only Daytime running lights. Is it the same if I do the wirings for the version 3? Like, will I get the triangle bit in the middle as a normal solid brake when i press on the brake and the V bar on when i have the headlights on parker/low beam?
So, if i want to have the V bar on when i turn my parkers/low beam on and have the triangle be a solid red when I flash, should I just follow the instructions for the 3rd option?
3rd option is what you want for no flash. As long as the rear running lights (parkers, I believe for you guys) are separate from the headlights/drl everything will work fine.
Check wiring (where do the blue and red wires get plugged into?). The only "problem" that could come up is that some lights/cars don't work with version 2...but the issue would be the middle triangle won't light up. After you do the rewire, the "v" is powered by the blue wire from the valenti light, which gets attached to the running light wire on either tail light.
So i cut open the wire for the 4th brake light harness, pulled out the blue and red wires, tapped the blue and red on my valenti drivers side tail lights and connected blue to blue and red to red. Another thing is that when opening up the 4th brake light, i never had the green wire to solder it was blue instead, but I assumed the wires were the same as they were wired the same way as the green one in your vid
Did the circuit board/insides look identical? There was an older version of the valenti lights-I have the info for how to rewire those, but I haven't put it together yet. You might have an older version light? If you could send me photos that would be best. Also, how did you make the connections? Wire taps or splice/solder?
wire taps would be the first thing I check. If your light visually looks the same as this video, you're all good. But if it looks different, its probably the older version. How old is the reverse light?
did you figure out why version 2 doesn't work? I'm about to order a 4th brake and want to do version 2. also with version 2 does it still flash when your headlights are off and you brake? thanks.
Nope, haven't figured it out-I think it's vehicle dependent. Try it, but don't screw everything back together. From what I've seen, MOST of the time version 2 works just fine. With Version 2, it will still light up/flash even if your headlights are off. It will act like a regular brake light-only "on" when you brake.
Yes, unless you wanted to change something. The red wire on the 4th brake light tells the center triangle light to come on, and the blue wire controls the "v". All this mod does is depict whether it flashes or not (center triangle light)
This is the best video on UA-cam. I’ve never seen a tutorial so easy to follow along and so clear to understand
Thanks! Hope you got it wired up how you want it.

why did you make changes before you started version 2 wiring? if red + green and separating orange and black is V2? then what does attaching red to green do?
It's been a while, but attaching red and green (I THINK) will make it so the running light and brake are separate and it won't flash unless you pulse/step and release the brake.
how can i do this: "V" as the running day lights (parkers).
Triangle off completely and only on when fogs are actually applied
Reverse as normal. No breaking light at all.
If this isnt possible, how can i remove the triangle light completely?
Just separate the wiring (choose blinking or no blinking) but hook up the wire that powers the triangle to the fog light wire.
In order for the brake(triangle) light to flash you need to have the “fog” connected to your brake light and a delayed 12v signal going to the “Stop” on the back of the light.
Wouldn't it work with both "fog" and "stop" connected to the brake wire? Thanks!
How did you reattach the wires back to the little dots it might be a stupid question but I’m curious
Soldering
Do you think it's possible to replace the fog leds with white ones and connect them to the reverse? And perhaps replace all the white leds with something brighter?
I have the same problem with v2 wiring, the brake light is very dim and it doesn’t even flash when i brake
Lame! At least we still have v3 available.
Charles Pages Do you know how to wire it with the relay?
LazerKing117 did you ever figure how to wire it up with a relay? I really want the strobing effect 😐
Danny Gonzalez I haven’t gotten the chance to, i want the strobing effect too, but i don’t wanna spend time with wiring a relay for it
LazerKing117 would you happen to know what relay would work for it, should any strobe brake light module work?
@@chazpages version 2. Yeah ikr? I guess installing a solid state relay will solve the problem eh?
Not sure if you'll see this, but when wiring for Version 2 it only flashes on accessory mode but not when running. Any idea as to why?
Do you have to rewire it a certain way to run the flashing brake light without having your DRL lights turned on?
Yeah and you can make the triangle brake light always on, or only on and flash (then stay solid if you hold the brakes)
Hmm, I wonder if they changed some of the wiring. Just swap the brake and running light wire?
Hey Charles, Ive done V2 and the problem is that the triangle and the v are opposite. The v comes on with the brake and the triangle stays on with the running lights.
Are there any wiring changes when tapping into 17+ Taillights?
I'm not sure, but I would think it is the same.
Great vid for how to. For the T taps, is there a difference in using Blue or Red T taps?
Both garbage, but no difference that I know of. Hardwire if you can!
How do you wire up the f1 blinking without parking lights on. Just by breaking.
so i have a rather weird question.
The issue is light specific, which is why I think there is/was a slight change in parts (not necessarily older or newer, just they swapped out one piece for another during assembly)
Version 3 will work for you, however.
I'll have to add an edit to the video-but I know Modbargains doesn't even offer version 2 anymore since we would have no idea if a light would do this or not. I would bench test every single one that was shipped out, but after this issue was discovered, we made only version 3 an option.
Makes no sense to me.
1. Mod light (version 2)
2. Bench test light-it works!
3. Install light-it doesn't work? wtf
Sorry Andrew, I know this is frustrating.
I ordered it from Subiespeed but once installed they will not take a return. and I have had it installed for a couple weeks now.
What wires do you attach up for the V as Day Running Lights?
Hey man, great video. Quick question is it possible to wire it such that the V itself is my break light and that the triangle just never runs?
yeah I also want something similar.. but V as brake light, and triangle as fog light
Very helpful. Thanks!
I was wondering if you had come across how to achieve the following?
Triangle: fog light only
V light: comes on with breaking only
Reverse: comes on with reverse only
I love the light but can't find any tutorials as to how to achieve the above!
IIRC you guys have a factory rear fog light, which means you have wiring there.
thanks man! Yep we have Factory rear fog. I'm gonna put an order in for the lights and give it a go when I get them :-)
Hello ! I'm in the same case. I need to have the triangle light up very bright to have it act as my rear for light, when I turn it on. Did you find a solution ? Thanks.
Just bought mine and Version 2 won't work. It works as Version 3 and the break light is super dim. I am extremely frustrated with this
Hmm, we haven't see that before. What happens when it was wired as version 2? Normally, the dim brake light is the symptom of version 2, NOT 3.
OK. I found the solution to the Version 2 problem.
Currently looking at getting some solid state relays but having hard time finding a right one for 12VDC currents with about 5-10A
So out of the box there is no flashing correct? You would have to do version one for that
Out of the box, the light will flash.
Inside the wires are all soldered the same &
I have Valenti brake lights too so have the blue wires both linked and both reds linked. why is the brake alone soo dim?
I have no idea, that’s what had stumped me with this 4th brake light
I did the V2 and I’m confused because I’m an electronics technician... so my Issue is when the car is not in but accessories are it works perfectly but when I turn the engine over it doesn’t work anymore
i have same problem, when car is off with just lights on V2 works as it should but when car is on the middle part have a very weak blinking and glowing...it just doesnt makes any sense why it does that.
For 2018 brz . Taillights color is now teal/torques . Who happens to know it’s still teal ?
Not sure, probably need to check the forum or use multimeter to verify!
Thank man so much . That was so helpfull .
has anyone figured out ver.2?
How would the wiring work for the Valenti Revo taillights? For version 3? It’s a lot different from your typical Valenti taillights. I need help with this please!?
How is it different?
Guyon Cumby the Revo only uses green wires and a black ground wire. I don’t know which wire does what on the Revo harness.
Version 2 OR 3 will allow the center brake light triangle to light up when the brakes are pressed WITHOUT needing the running lights to be on!
I did Version 3 Wiring and got it to look like 4:15. Are there more detailed instructions for installing the light onto the car?
Only at the end of this video. Basically install it in the factory location, and run the wire loom into the trunk area. You'll have to tap 2 wires on ONE of the tail lights. The brake wire, and the running light wire. I would suggest solder and NOT t taps.
you think this will be the same for the GCS brake light?
Not sure, but I'm sure it could be modified. I'd need to have one in hand to verify.
My mans got cotton mouth AF 😂 get you a cup of water everytime before filming
lol dude it was so freaking hot, even at 11pm or so when I did this video. I was dying in the garage haha
Charles Pages ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW IN THIS HEEEAATT GAWDDDAYMNN This video helped tho . Kinda lost still but I’ll get it slowly
Charles Pages quick question... do you need version 1 wiring to make version 2 work ?
No, each wiring is a little different but you don’t need to do version 1 and then 2...just do whatever is shown in 2
does the reverse light stil function?
yes it does! Just like normal.
Thank you!
Great video!
Are your lights (headlights and tail lights) always on when the car is running?
No, but the DRL is always on when the handbrake is down
So, if i want to have the V bar on when i turn my parkers/low beam on and have the triangle be a solid red when I flash, should I just follow the instructions for the 3rd option?
3rd option is what you want for no flash. As long as the rear running lights (parkers, I believe for you guys) are separate from the headlights/drl everything will work fine.
cheers bro. I will try it out later and let you know what happens
Hey,
I've wired it up for v2, but the V isnt coming on, only the reverse lights. Should I try v3? or did I screw up wiring somewhere
They look pretty identical from what I remember. I tapped the wires. I'll remove the light and take some pics of the circuit in a sec
wire taps would be the first thing I check.
Charles Pages thanks! One last thing. What wires do I splice into with the valenti tails? Blue to blue and red to red still?
Correct!
will it be red to red and blue to blue regardless of the version i wire for the 4th brake?
Yes, unless you wanted to change something. The red wire on the 4th brake light tells the center triangle light to come on, and the blue wire controls the "v". All this mod does is depict whether it flashes or not (center triangle light)
I want to just cut the wire that supports the F1 light that flashes, if possible what wire can I cut and just dead end
