Great suggestion! I had a painting video but it was mostly how NOT to paint because it was so bad. I'm learning.

Looks good LawDog. I like the seats more than my 76 OEM seats. Those side pipes look good also. You may want to Chrome cover them later with Patriot covers. They really look nice and just bolt on. I am watching your videos again and searching for other C3 painless videos. As I commented on one of your videos I am a little set back about the gauge of wiring. I thought about posting some videos like you did but have not fully decided yet showing how to install the painless wiring. Second day into it and a little challenging but not painful on this 6 June 2024

Kinda sad to see the car finished. I just started my 76' restoration at home and your videos have been great help.

I know what you mean - glad the videos are helping you on your project. Helping the Corvette community is exactly why I make the videos.

Congratulations on the restoration of your 74. I know exactly how you feel. I also completed a two year restoration on my 74 two years ago. Enjoy that 74 and save the wave .👍

This is great. I’m getting ready to paint my 75 in my garage. After sanding, could you go in order of the materials you used? I am not sure what to use as bondo and my research is getting extremely confusing. I need to use a filler, then some type of epoxy, then primer then paint. I just don’t know what to use exactly for the filler and epoxy

Yes, absolutely. This process is very confusing. So once you sand the panels down the outer fiberglass layer - on my 74 this layer was a dark grey color - then you need to concentrate on repairing the panels. Here is where you can use a product like EVERCOAT RAGE OPTEX COLOR CHANGING BODY FILLER. This product goes on light and then you sand most of it off. The key is you are looking for a FLAT painting surface. You then can go with a Contour Primer. This primer is designed to continue to flatten out the surface. Once again you will be sanding most of the Contour Primer off of the vehicle. Then hit it was a 2K URETHANE PRIMER. You then sand the panels after the primer coat to about 600 grit. Then spray your base coat and then you clear coat. The secret to an excellent paint job is not the BASE COAT but the body filler. You have to start out with a flat surface for the clear coat to shine.

@@lawdogcorvette8565 wow, much appreciated. so you didn't use an epoxy at all? I had some repairs that have fibers. so the overcoat rage filler and the contour primer will act as a gelcoat/epoxy coat and bury the fibers so they won't ever come through? I really appreciate the input. Your car turned out so amazing.

@@SoloAscent - So I'm not an expert - however - the Contour primer worked very well for me. I sprayed two heavy coats on the Vette with blocking between coats. MOST of the contour primer ended up on my garage floor. But the product that stayed on the panel created a very flat and smooth surface that was an excellent base for the 2k primer. I can't see any fibers showing through those layers.

Why didn't you paint inside the doors.. Must have been in really bad shape when you started on it.

so painting the door jams - yes this was a newby mistake on my part. First you need to remove the doors to properly paint the jams. On the Corvette to remove the doors you have to remove nearly all of the front interior pieces. I was not willing to remove the interior to get the doors off (I had a short painting window). So I left the jams primer grey with the idea that I will come back in the spring and remove the doors and paint them properly. Next time I will paint the car before installing the interior.
