I just assembled my Auto Kamado. Will be seasoning it tomorrow and look forward to cooking chicken on it afterwards per your approach here. I very much appreciate how clear you are in explaining how to use it. It’s very helpful that you have an Auto Kamado playlist. Have a great day!
Thanks John! Actually, the new auto-kamado is on sale for $224 at walmart with free shipping currently: www.walmart.com/ip/Char-Griller-Auto-Kamado/682418908
Mine is over shooting temps of 50 plus degrees. My charcoal wasnt over lit. Set it at 400 an the computer said to set the d setting to number 3. And its not windy outside. Any advice? Thank you in advance.
@@RobsBackyardBBQ okay. I'm also going to try the gasket upgrade on the lid an ash pan I've seen a guy on u tube try. He says it helps seal it off better.
Hey Jeff, I was thinking about this yesterday when I was running it. After my cook I turned off the power and tried to keep the heat going with just the top vent - the temps dropped since there is no flow on the bottom vent unless the fan is on pushing the flap open.
Great videos! I’m thinking about getting an auto akorn now. One question is I’m curious how long it can go on one load of charcoal before running out for something like a brisket low and slow?
Thanks Casey! I actually have a ribs & petite pork shoulder slow cook that I did yesterday, however, my microphone wasn't working for the first half. I'm going to try and voice-over it in the next day or so.
@@rawjan39 Hey there! I did post that video after all - it went great! I also did a test brisket this weekend, 11hrs at 250F. I'll video a brisket probably this week.
I'm definitely getting me one of those grills. I was gonna get a 980 but I think it's to big for just me and my wife. My question on this new auto kamado is can you use charcoal briquettes or only lumb charcoal. The few videos I've seen is only with lumb charcoal. The chicken looks good 👍. I would love to see a video of a brisket. Does a brisket fit in it?
Hey Rene, thanks for watching! I'm a fan of lump and they suggest lump, but I know plenty of people that use briquettes in kamados. I've done brisket in my other Akorn - the grates are 20" wide on both. Once I find some brisket at a good price i'll make a video on this with it! :)
Looks great rob love your page I’m about to order one of these auto but I have a fear of what happens if the fan goes out or the electrical controls mess up just want to know do you think I should just buy a regular Akorn or get the auto thanks
Hey Sam, thanks man! Some people use portable charger boxes for grills that plug in.. in case the power goes out. I see what you mean though thinking something might happen - that'd mess up the weekend cook for sure if you had to get something replaced under warranty. The regular Akorn is a great cooker... I love mine and will still use it. But, i'll use the auto more probably when I don't feel like babysitting the temps.
@@mrfaulk13 I still have it - did a video with it a couple weeks ago (grilled chicken quesadillas). This is just new, so I wanted to create some videos for it this weekend.
Wow, those looked fantastic Rob. That cooker looked like it performed flawlessly. I noticed in the background, the chickens in the coop looked pretty tame and laid back. Almost like they knew what you were cooking 🤣😬🤣
Dang Rob, those thighs looked good enough to eat! 😆 🤣 Seriously that chicken looked perfect. 👌 We just ate and our ago but now i want some wings! Thanks for sharing.
WoW Rob, that grill did well!! Sweet baby rays for the win. I figured out why a wasn’t getting Notifications from your channel, some how I was Unsubscribed from the channel?? I’m so on the fence between that and a 9080, what do you think?? Great video brother 💯👍

You are cold. Cooking chicken in front of the chickens.
Can you provide a link for the extension to hold more things to cook? Thanks for the video!
Great man, it looks amazing. I just bought the Char-Griller; let's see how it goes.
Chicken looks good. Can't wait to see mine. Just ordered an Akorn Auto Kamado. Assembly begins Wednesday Evening. 🤞😁
Awesome! You're going to love it!
Why, oh why did I watch this right before lunch! Great video!
Thanks a lost for your advices did my chiken and came out Just delicios...
Beautiful color! I’m shocked they didn’t burn on the bottom but I’m new to these Kamado grills. Why skin side up?
Enjoy your videos! Just got my auto Kamado and I get an error code ERF having to do with the fan. Have you had this issue? Thanks
I had the same issue, and it goes away when I lock it shut, when I open it, it comes back. started happening after a 5 uses for me.
Shazam that looked good.. I'm amazed u didn't have to flip those on th bottom.. I'm always learning something new. Thanks for th vid
What a great cooker! If you removed the ash pan could you grill without the blower in a pinch?
Hey Mike - Mayyyybe, but I think it'd introduce too much air.. plus, it'd be dropping hot ash :/
Great Video, You are a very good presenter and I learnt a lot more than via other BBQ channels.
Hey Rowan, thanks for watching man!
Awesome channel! Great videos. I'm considering picking up the original Akorn Kamado

Wow Rob, that chicken turned out great! Impressive features on the Acorn too. I like that it even tells you where to set the damper👍😊
Thanks Bobbi! Yeah, it seems pretty smart so far! lol

Close the top vent a little more

If you want to cook without electric altogether (same as the Akorn) is it doable with the Auto Kamado?
Hey Jeff, I was thinking about this yesterday when I was running it. After my cook I turned off the power and tried to keep the heat going with just the top vent - the temps dropped since there is no flow on the bottom vent unless the fan is on pushing the flap open.
@@RobsBackyardBBQ got you. I'd like to be able to operate it without electricity in a pinch, so have to think about this a bit...
@@jeffhamidi9423 I wonder if the bottom of regular akorn would fit the auto kamado. That way you could just buy one. That would be huge.
@@sideyardbarbecue3214 terrific thought.
I'm going to test this tomorrow - maybe a quick video. There's a few people asking this question this evening.
Great videos! I’m thinking about getting an auto akorn now. One question is I’m curious how long it can go on one load of charcoal before running out for something like a brisket low and slow?
Hey Zack - same as the regular Akorn .. you could put a hefty amount of any good charcoal and get 10-12 hours easy. Thanks for watching!
Really depends on the charcoal. I use B&B and have gotten up to 18 hrs on just 5lbs of briquettes
On the Auto-Kamado
Looks great
You don't use heat retaining piece? And what kind of meat required heat retainer?
Really looking forward to more cooks. I’m interested in the low and slows. I’m sure you have some coming. Thanks!

Great video. I have a Akorn Kamado. would it be just as good to add a Digi Q?. Chicken looked stellar!
Hey Bill! I've never used one of those, but I imagine it'd be similar? Thanks for checking it out!
Do you store your auto Kamado outdoor?
Chicken looks great. Nice tips on running this new cooker. 🤘
Thanks man! I just heated some up for lunch haha.
How do you like the chargriller auto?

Hey man, that's weird lol. If I had to pick one, i'd probably pick the 980 mainly because it has more cooking surface.
How long did it take for it to come up to 450?
