As a practitioner of Okinawan Karate, I can tell you that breathing techniques are crucial to mastering the art of Karate. When you become fearful of something the natural reaction is to become tense in the body. But it means that breathing becomes superficial thus making you more nervous and unable to focus. The body needs air to relax and be focused. Also, you can sometimes hit harder when you are in a relaxed state than when making the muscles tense. Without breathing you cannot be present in the moment. And he who isn't present will be a dead man in a self defence situation. It is called SELF defence because the main enemy is your self - your own fear and worries. It is as much them - fear and doubt - you must defend yourself from that can take away your alertness and awareness as the punches and kicks of the opponent. Breathing Properly, gives presence. Presences is key to mastering Karate and so many other aspects of life. This is the great zen Buddhism teaching that Karate is built upon. Oss!
Rex1987 Yes. I trained in Goju Ryu, long ago now ... Did a lot of breathing, sanchin, and some tensho, warmups ... Have done other things, running, swimming and yoga ... Breathing in yoga and karate ... "Different but same" and positions. Wanted to train again, to have an instructor in sanchin and tensho ... Started training Shotokan, not so much about breathing, and we have not got to doing sanchin yet, if ever ... Interesting though.
I've studied traditional Taekwondo, for a few years, now I've been studying the as my teacher calls it "Chuck Norris System" which incorporates both traditional Taekwondo and martial arts that will help in real life situations. I've always returned to watching the Karate Kid movies because even though people make fun of how the training is done it actually does work to some extent. But the way you explained this gave me even more knowledge than ever. Thank you
The chores he gives Daniel, essentially both helpful in the real world and serve as a metaphor. Not only does he learn how to be handy, but he now understands that EVERYTHING is about breathing, building and balance.
"real world" is such a funny way of saying "practical" It's almost as if we are denying the real experiences of children, and people who don't do certain kinds of work either for money or not. Almost as if concepts and metaphors aren't "practical". Just because they aren't physical
@@jedimaster0667- Yes very true, perhaps a better expression would be “the objective world”. But it is also very true what the comment above me said, for teens and young adults the objective world seems as the “truly” real world, it is with age when the term “real” becomes more and more profound and yet simpler.
@@vandalg282 It’s a shame that the chores aren’t exactly too helpful in the Cobra Kai TV series … which is why I think Daniel should’ve taught the blocking moves without needing to do chores.
Watching this is sort of bitter sweet. When you realize that Mr. Miyagi is teaching Daniel like he is his own son, only to learn that later he had a son that died in child birth.

Haha. Miyagi always know how to calm Daniel and send him to work XD. Great scene.
I have all The Karate Kid movies ( not the 2010 remake because screw that one ) and if I had to get rid of all of them but one. I would definitely keep the second one.
DEFINITELY THE REMAKE SUCKS........THANK GOD FOR COBRA KAI, IM GONNA GET SHIT FOR THIS ONE, LOVE THEM ALL, EVEN THE NEXT KK WAS ALRIGHT, BUT IF I COULD KEEP ONLY ONE, KK3 I LIKE TERRY SILVER, JUST MY FAVORITE KK MOVIE,THEY SHOULD HAD PART 3 AS THE 2ND MOVIE, AND PART 2 AS THE 3RD MOVIE, HE FOUGHT TO THE DEATH IN PART 2, THAT SHOULD OF BEEN THE FINAL KK MOVIE WITH DANIEL....
@@joewhitehead3 it's more scarce than years ago. Instead of wisdom there is an abundance of people who know it all and they insist on others knowing that about them.

There is something very unique, like divine (not really divine, my brothers in faith, i’m just trying to describe here something) about this movie, 1 and 2. I also liked 3, somewhat also 4, but they are completely something else. Many movies made it into my heart along the years, maybe the strongest one in this matter was the Rocky series, but as much feelings as I had and have for them, the test of time proved for me that they are indeed still movies after all. Karate kid 1 and 2 is somewhat outside the sphere of time, it’s like i’m a little kid again, believing in an overall good world led by responsible caring people who communicate sincerely with one another on how to continuously conduct it further better (that’s what I thought organizations and governments are for, little naive me), listening eagerly to my parents wisdom, floating in the spark of hope and love in their eyes, feeding my eternal soul. The world is evil, my parents like myself are far from being all-wise all-good, and i’m somewhat less of a naive… but these 2 movies take me existentially back to this warmth of hope, love and wisdom, a goodness out of this world. The only other 3 movies I ever had the same touch with are the Lord of the Rings trilogy. As much as I like the actors and their characters themselves and all the production itself behind it, I know it’s not in their hands, it’s not something they can reproduce in other movies with hard and diligent work. It’s something above all of this, the whole is bigger than the sum of all its parts, it’s like these movies came to be kind of their own souls. Like Mr. Miyagi said here: “Cosmic coincidence”.
LMAO @ Daniel when he asks Mr. Miyagi, " How come every time I have a problem, you have work for me to do ? ! ? ! ". 😒🤔 Funny as hell ! ! ! ! ! ! 😊😁😆😂🤣
True 🙏🏻 It probably has to do a lot with the actor himself too, Pat Morita, which seemed to be a rare combination of being very deep within yet very grounded, simple and down to earth, a classic true mentor mentality (which the Miyage character complemented with the actor's roots). Peterson for example doesn’t seem to have the second part, however he is on elite level of being a curious, sensible genius, while being very, very sincere, precise and straightforward.

10 bucks says we're all here because Cobra Kai is reminding us of these scenes that we saw when we were kids.
10 bucks given
Nope! I'm here because I needed focus!
I am here for Honor!!!!
Email my ten... 😆 I saw it in theater, it's been my favorite of the trilogy.
10 million bucks

Breathing is part of every martial arts, not just karate. As an aikidoka, our training starts with breathing exercises
Thank you that was a great assessment. Never understood the importance of this scene fully as much until now. Appreciate the insight.

For a kid Daniel's age, they tend to live in two very distinct worlds.

I like how they show the satisfaction of accomplishing a chore. Sometimes boring stuff can be enjoyable too.
Mr. Miyagi was a great teacher, indeed. Through our hearts, he lives on. This will always be one of my favorite scenes. Thanks for uploading.

"When you fear life utter focus always return to basic of life , breathing cause without breathing there is no life " This was excellent 👌
I love how he taught lessons and empowered his life with the right things

I think Daniel had to be "All at once" in CK. Face it, this generation is impatient and constantly seeking instant gratification.
um not sure if that answers my question
Funny how we know the real truth between daniel and Ali.
Instead of Elisabeth Shue I want to see Yukio in the TV show
