Ghost plays with the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s... so far. And if you keep checking them out, they'll keep surprising you.
"What genre is Ghost?"
"Yes."
Ghost is so big with so many hits, that there will next to never be a proper consensus on what their “best work” is, it’s just all so good.
With that said, Cirice is my top pick. It’s their most “overplayed” but that’s because it won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The song is probably their Magnum Opus. It’s masterfully crafted. A lot of Ghost’s music is insanely well crafted, but Cirice makes you feel some kind of way for sure.
Like others have said, and what you said in the video, you can just pick whatever is in their top 20 and it’ll be a banger. Each song has its own vibe. Some are more poppy sounding, some are more heavier, some are psychedelic, some will make you want to dance. It’s all a matter of taste and Ghost has every flavor you’re looking for.
First time?!?!? What!?!?! My jaw is on the floor right now. They are one of my favs!

Ghost is a band that's well worth discovering in chronological order. From their stripped back more Satanic debut to their most recent polished pop-like extravagance. There's gems to be found in each album.
Ghost has infiltrated my all time top favorite bands list in the last decade. Such great musicians, such great music. Tobias Forge does the majority of writing and recording, but his band members are just as amazing when you hear/see them live.

Tobias does come from a Black Metal, Death Metal background. Check out his band Repugnant where he performed under the moniker Mary Goore.
The entirety of IMPERA has massive old school rock vibes to it. Van Halen. Maiden etc vibes on different songs. Some of their older songs are boredline cult classics now. They also just dropped an EP of covers, Worth checking out if you get time. Cheers.
I can definitely get behind something influenced by Def Leppard.

I also love “Mummy Dust” and “Year Zero,” if you want to listen to some more of their older stuff.

Folk will tell u Ghost is Black Sabbath meets Abba. They are partially correct. It's Black Sabbath meets Abba meets Nine Inch Nails. It's.sabbath's satanic vibe meets abba's pop hooks meets NIN's one man concept album/band thing.

They have so much back story and lore which I'll let another Ghost fan tell you about, but I absolutely adore this band! 🥰 They are definitely a band you NEED to see live to truly appreciate them, their Rituals (as fans call them) are an impressive experience!

DO Spillways epic 80's rock sound
Great reaction. Ghost write amazing, catchy, songs. There are some people who get hung up on if they are "metal" or not, or that they don't match their image. Soundwise, they might not, but they do often talk about Satan (or Mephistopheles here). They are Swedish, and basically cross black metal (from the 70's/80's) and ABBA. It wouldn't work as good as it does if it wasn't for top tier songwriting and production. Try Cirice, Rats, Spillways or Year Zero next.
Going down the Ghost rabbit hole earned you a subscriber. 😁Be sure to listen to songs from all their albums because they differ a lot. All songs mentioned before are great. Another great and quirky song is Ghuleh/Zombie Queen.

I'm not the biggest Ghost fan but they do make me smile and bang my old head a little .👹

Ghost are my other favourite band along with Sleep Token and no they don’t sound anything like each other but they’re both amazing. Ghost do have that 70/80s retro vibe which doesn’t at all go with their look like you say but then again does Sleep Tokens sound go with their look. Ghost have this in depth lore but basically they’re supposed to be a satanic version of the catholic church which is why you often see the lead singer Papa wearing Pope robes. There have been four Papas and one Cardinal Copia but they are all just one man, Tobias Forge who is the mastermind behind Ghost and changes his look, mannerisms and even voice/singing style with each character. There is a video on UA-cam which has the story of Ghost.
My favourite song is Rats and there are many other great songs for you to check out, Spillways, Faith, See The Light, He is, Cirice, Life Eternal and Year Zero to name but a few. Absolutely do a deep dive.
As they transform their appearance the can sound quite different from song to song. But they always sound good. I would suggest you to try some songs from their earlier records like "Ritual" and "Year zero". I saw someone mentioned Cirice, that one is a must. From the more recent albums you should listen to "Rats" and "Spillways". But honestly, all songs are good from my opinion!

I happen to be a Sleep Token fan who likes Ghost, too! I would have recommended Cirice or Square Hammer as a first but this is a good song. Tobias has said that 80s bands are an influence. Mentioned Def Leppard in particular. They actually did a version of Spillways with Joe Elliot. Also some ABBA influence. Side note, this song is inspired by Aleister Crowley - long story, just look up Crowley and CMLSS.
Btw I'd recommend maybe a Dance Macabre reaction next.
So much to explore. Personally I'd recommend Year Zero, Square Hammer, Rats, Cirice and Majesty if you want more 🙂

Excellent band. Top 3 band for me. They've grown a lot over the years too, their last album was absolutely stellar. Very interesting live act too; I believe currently it's a 9-man ensemble on the stage. However, lead singer Tobias Forge is the absolute mastermind of it all - he does everyhing. Technically it's his band, and the live bandmembers are hired by him. However, the current line-up has been stable for a while and they are really really good. You should really check out more. They have some more heavy songs. Technically the newer stuff is their best stuff, but they used to have a bit of a different vibe on the first few albums that you might like. Looking forward to you reacting to more of them!

I first discovered Ghost in 2013 after I saw a picture of Papa Emeritus II and did a search for them. The first song I picked was Year Zero and I had the same reaction about the voice/singing. Been a fan since. Saw and met the band in 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.
weird, i’m a massive sleep token fan and i listened to these about 6 months ago for the first time. after hearing a couple songs i purchased the impera album which is their latest one and it is such a good album. nothing like sleep token btw, totally different sound. yet to delve into their erlier stuff but bloody mary is a good tune. you should check that one out.

Too me they cover so many different genres... a lot of there early stuff was very sabbath and doomy, now they still take that doom edge but make it more accessable and catchy

Listen to He Is (a parody of christian rock, well... most of Ghost is parodies...), Life Eternal, Cerise, Dance Macabre and more.
The looks is an homage to the Metal genre, as is the satanism, but thats not what Tobias is trying to convene.
