Did you find out where they got their coal from? Azerbaijan is what I've been told! We have 300 years of coal under our feet which can't be touched by this insanity 😮
It is truly crazy. The last I heard the Severn Valley Railway were importing their coal from Australia, they’d tried other countries coal but it just wasn’t good enough. As you say, right under our feet in so many parts of GB and just going to waste. It’s really not about sustainability and the environment, is it? ☹️
Completely agree, it's insanity.
A Nation of coal in a sea of oil and we can't touch it.
@@robblack7560 why can't you touch it in case you upset the little Swedish gremlin Greta Thunder and all of her little weirdo mates
True, never go back. My wife and I went back to our 4* hotel where we had our 4 night honeymoon, after 30yrs of marriage. It’s barely 2* now. Truly awful. Boil in the bag kippers for breakfast and I got food poisoning from a chicken dinner.🤦🏻♂️
🤣 sorry..
Yeah, but apart from that .. all good? 🤭😆
Good god 30 years of marriage you do realise if you had murdered her on your wedding night you'd be out by now
Its good that you are keeping your lovley Mum and Dads memory alive. THis was a good vlog Lee xx
Totally agree.🎉
Every time I ever went back somewhere, I was disappointed! It’s always best to recall wonderful memories without going back because your disappointment will spoil the past. Find more opportunities to remember.
Everything changes ❗️The good ol' days were the best 👀👍❗️Fond childhood memories, indeed ❗️
Hi Lee.
Really feel for you on this one.
What to remember though, when we were 5 or 6 most food was probably cooked in some form of animal fat.
Without that flavour it can never be the same.
I'm guessing, but most people born after mid 70's have never tasted full fat meat.
Quite ironic, when meat was fat people were lean. Now meat is lean and people are fat.
It was the Dolly Blue works at Backbarrow. It was a washing product. The riverbank was actually dyed blue. Used to visit from Lancaster when I were a lad!
Hey Lee i love how you mention memories of Mom & Dad would love to see a good picture of the 2. Thanks, Lee, and wish Mom in heaven Happy Mother's day! From Canada
Totally agree.🎉🎉
My grandmother used Dolly Blue when laundering my grandfather's white shirts. Apparently it stops whites "yellowing". It was also manufactured in Belfast (Ewarts Dye Works beside a running river) as a child I was amazed at the river colour.
You kill me eating Lee. I lost my sense of taste and smell 51 years ago in an accident!
Understandable … great memories … you clearly were close to mum and dad … looks a great area to grow up in … well done .., 👏🔆👏🔆👏
As my grandmother would say if you only poured her a small drink "Has the train gone past" ?
It has and taken half the chips, good job they were chunky ones, only 10 chips again !
No wonder that most of us don't eat out these days.
The steam train at the end was worth waiting for! 🚂🙂💓
Porlock Weir in Somerset had such special memories been my grandads favorite fishing spot many years ago. Place hasn't changed much but.. those lovely memories only live on in your head.x
Looking forward to your dover 2 benidorm trip 💯
Really enjoyed the videoLee and thankyou for sharing your childhood memories. I love steam trains , also love the lake district😊😊
We used to regularly stay in a caravan at Holker Hall in the mid 70s/early 80s, and the Anglers Arms was always our favourite pub for a meal. I remember the Morecambe Bay potted shrimps being a favourite, followed by the scampi.
At the candle factory Lee did you go in and ask for four of them? 😜
Bluing, laundry blue, dolly blue or washing blue is a household product used to improve the appearance of textiles, especially white fabrics. Used during laundering, it adds a trace of blue dye
Probably had a dozen owners of the place since you were a child
Camped with my parents in Backbarrow when me and my brother were little lads back in the early sixties. All I remember about it was the Reckitts Blue factory that ran all night and the pouring rain that worked its way through the not very waterproof tent; that and the hedgerows stained blue from the fall-out from the factory. Charming place!
Good Morning Lee. I do prefer your more Personal video like this. No music and No silly walk by's. Yourself talking to the camera and just telling us about your Childhood memories of a time gone by. I was very and absolutely Impressed with the Good old English Anglers Arms Pub. Fish and Chips, not to bad but i am sure they could given You Lee, a few more Chips and the Sauces should been served on your plate not in metal containers, just like plate fillers, you know. For the price of £ 17.95, a little bit pricey if you were a Family or a Group of people. Just on your own, very Good value for your money. I will this Establishment, Atmosphere, Surroundings and Your Meal Lee. 12/10 for the Establishment and Surroundings, The Food for me 7/10.. Worth a visit i reckon and have a meal in there Restaurant, and nice cool pint. Thank you for sharing your video Lee.
What a fabulous video this time around love the walk around the neighborhood before the review. Great programming thanks very much!
Come on Lee Champion the wonder horse?? I mean I look pretty good for my age (68) but unless you have been cryogenically frozen for 25 years that was a bit of poetic license, what next Muffin the mule lol.
Maybe he watched repeats a lot of my favourites like Minder where made before I was born i don't think he's that young to be honest he did a video with his daughter recently and she is only a few years younger than I am
I shouldn't worry about influencing kids to go in the river, unless you invent an app for it as they don't seem to do anything that isn't on a screen. The memories you're showing and we have I can't see the younger generation having as nothing other that phones will be remembered. Glad I grew up when I did, yep, I broke bones and have scars, but we certainly did have fun
😃Lee i remember the tar melting on the street,? Any memories of that.
Yes in the 60s with my magnifying glass. When hot enough weather wise it just bubbled in bubbles❤
I started following you after Geoff buys Cars. I have to say you are as entertaining. You sound like a good man. All the best and hope you find the petrol/diesel car that suits you the most! 😊
Great vlog Lee, lovely place, think we need a long weekend there very soon 👍
That food looked lovely. Plenty of chips for me as I don't eat a huge amount. The scenery and railway looked amazing. X
I see they added the National Park taking the piss surcharge.
That pub is like Triggers Broom! Probably had loads of new owners , staff, kitchen equipment and suppliers etc since you last went.
Same brush 🧹 head , different handle .
Great to see a pub from the 1970’s surviving and thriving. The UK has lost so many pubs over the past 20 years, many from my childhood are long gone.
Great video and thanks for sharing your memories.
Thanks for sharing Lee
I to remember the anglers arms where we used to have proper Cumberland sausages. I can't wait to about your fish & chips experience.
I think we used to use blocks of Reckitts Blue to wash the white socks/feathers on our horses before going to shows. The blue used to make them bright white.
Welsh section D Cross Hackney. I used to show.x as well as many others.🎉❤
Dolly blue i knew it as lol.
When I was young they used to use Lard but know everything is cooked in oil.
If the kids like railways. Maybe some day try the North York Moors Railway from Pickering to Whitby, Much longer at 23 miles total and much bigger engines.
Loverly area, and great to see the old steam train running. Being an old-timer, that was the only sort of trains there were in my childhood, great days!
Nice work. My Dr. Who was William Hartnell !
Patrick Troughton for me. Loved it back then, would never consider watching it now.
John Pertwee and Tom Baker out standing Dr's I remember Patrick❤
Nice video of just you Lee not the MM. Nice looking pub and fish & chips. Do you remember when Wagon Wheels were enormous and tasty so much better than they do today. So yes I agree there my friend. I do love a good steam railway train ride.
Would have been beef dripping, when you were a child. Fish and chips always best cooked that way
I was so much older then,I'm younger than that now"!!
Do you look for the most expensive places to eat ? £17.25 for fish & small chips.
Most places are this price now. A mains and desert in a roadside pub is now more expensive than a 5 course meal in a decent restaurant used to be, not so very long ago.
Things change Lee...Like no manufacturing in England any more...Those high end apartments?...the locals can't afford them..Yes, its all modern, clean and nice, but is it really better?....🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧
MEN HAVE CYCLES TOO,
MOTORCYCLES
Well Lee 9/10 from me, that meal looked delicious, that was a sufficient amount for anyone. Just finish off with a nice piece of fruit 👍 Au
Chips
were better when you were a kid because they were free. Where as now as a adult you have to pay for it. Lol.
.😂🇬🇧
I love England in the late spring early summer... when the sun is warm and things are grean and lush, difficult to match. 3 days left in Gran Canaria lol hope it's dry when I get home. I grew up in North Lincolnshire i the wolds country boy, great memories.
I drove over Hard Knotts pass and down to the railway - it was a fantastic day and the train ride was brilliant. Lee a clean plate and some tasty looking scran.
Much prefer the videos natural without the music
Hi Lee great to see you again 😊
Brilliant well done 👍
That's an expensive menu..!..£7.25 for a bowl of soup and bread!!
Great video thank you
To be fair to the portion size, they're pretty big chips. Though, this always worries me as pubs like this are notorious for not cooking said thick chips properly (typed this before finishing the video)
Love it Lee I was up there last year with my Grandchildren on the Railway and the Boat too.. .I remember as a child we always went to Seaview on the IOW me and my Dad would walk down to Ryde in the morning past Puckpool battery and then we would call at a bakery for fresh bread and then get bacon and cheese off Ryde high street then walk back along the beach... I went back with my kids in the 90's and it was as I remembered .. Model shop was gone but not much had changed.. My eldest lad loved it and took his family there a few years back and hated it.. only Godshill model village was the same everything else he said is now a "shithole" 😮💨 ooooh btw don't ever forget "The Flashing Blade" the best Saturday morning show ever.. beat Casey Jones and Robinson Crusoe into a cocked hat.😂
Great video as always Lee keep up the great work 👍
I wonder if your Tyson's mobile shop van was a relative of the current fantastic Tysons' butchers shop in Broughton-in-Furness?
I don’t know who said, “never go back,” but whoever it is was bonkers. That’s one of the beautiful things in life as we get older, IS having the opportunity to go back. Those chish and fips look awesome. I’m also having them today, so you are building up my appetite mate. 👍
Hi Lee nice video this one.
I do remember Champion The Wonder Horse.
As you said should never go back however that’s a beautiful place go back to but more commercialised now still lovely place in the lakes.
Fish&chips meal looked nice give that because of the price 7/10 but cheaper 8/10.
I actually thought your video was from Tenerife said wouldn’t go back there until saw location thanks for sharing 👍
Loved your video Lee thankyou so much. More Heritage rail journeys may be ❤😊
My favourite type of video interesting w/out all the unnecessary fluff and B/S and not interminably long .Good one MacMaster👍👍👍👍
5:51 remnants of a cotton loom machine these would have been lined up side by side down the weaving shed dozens if not hundreds of them ❤
I drive through Backbarrow every day (nearly) and I like what they are doing converting all the old buildings, but in the winter it's a frozen icehole, the temperature drops by 2-3 degrees driving through that valley...and I'm sure the Anglers was boarded up not so long ago
Well done on picking the one day in the year that it wasn’t raining in Backbarrow 🤣
Nice to see the area again. We lived in Ulverston and, as I always used to say about the Lakes “the water has to come from somewhere!” Yes, it does rain a lot! Rather depressing to hear about the average speed cameras though 🤯
Champion the wonder horse. 70s classic
Brought back a memory. Saturday mornings, champion the wonder horse. Superb
Last September I walked the journey you did, past the Whitewater and the ironworks to the Anglers Arms Lee. Dolly blue or Reckitt's blue was a product for whitening clothes. You can see the history of it at the motor museum as well as a Donald Campbell exhibition. That area of Backbarrow and Haverthwaite is well worth a visit. Have you tried the cafe at the motor museum Lee? That is also worth a visit. 👍
I've had many a meal in the Anglers Arms over the years. It never disappoints. I'm glad the steam railway is still going too; I used to love that as a kid. Love a bit of nostalgia. There's nothing better.
The fish did look a bit soggy the chips looked fine Lee about 5 👍
Great video as usual Lee xx
Nice video, I like that format
Lovely place, Lee. I'd love to take my grandchildren there one day.
Once again a great video, nice to look back and reminisce of memories past although as you say sometimes it's best leave in the past as sometimes things can change not always for the best
Looks yummy ,when chips are included its best to oreder a side extra .i love a good serve of freashy cooked chips .
What fond memories you got good times
Lovely place, nice food. Overall 9/10. Could do with some more mushy peas though.
Nice place Lee nice food 8 enjoyed you're vlog 👍
That was fun!
Looked ok, 6/10 I’d say Lee. Looking forward to going back to Northern Sole in a couple of days time to sit outside in the glorious sun and their beautiful cod chips and curry sauce. I know you just about prefer Rays II but I reckon Northern Sole just has the edge for me. 😁👍
Graphic Designer with 30+ years experience here mate. ALWAYS go back Lee. Leave nothing to doubt. You know that. 😉👍🏻
😉Fellow Graphic Designer. 👍🏼👍🏼
I always loved the Happy Eater on the A31 at the Hogs Back in Surrey. We always passed through travelling down to Nan and Grandads to Poole from Grays.
Had a meal at the Anglers not too long ago, lovely place, nice atmosphere with great staff.❤
Hey Lee are you glad you went back to see if it was the same . I love these kind of vlogs you just being Lee lovely place I remember going there once with my mum on the couch. It has brought back memories for me aswell xx
I wish we could have seen, the cars. Ford Cortina`s :)

Wow Lee what a beautiful place and the fish and chips looked nice
Its been a while to catch up with an episode of yours on the channel Lee.But because i love your content always man i returned to the channel and watched this one. What an amazing episode.A fantastic place and sceenery that only the English country side can offer plus the whole package with the pub , the food , the lake and the steam trains at the beautiful station is all the money man.As an overseas british citizen ( Englishcypriot) i will definetely visit with my family this place. What is the name of this town my dear friend lee? Thanks in advance my friend.Stay sharp!!!MACMASTER RULES!!!Greetings from Cyprus my dear friend Lee!!❤❤❤
Great without music, thanks!
If she stained them it would be jelly not jam , far better as it traps seeds .
Yes something's are better LEFT in the PAST but I just can't get over some of mine unfortunately 😔
Lee it’s nice looking back on memories of your past, I convert peoples home movies on my Facebook page and made many memories come back converted to digital. Lovely video.
Nice fish&chips for a pub, not bad at all
We should all stand up for the human rights of fish skin !! From the river to the sea, fish skin shall be free !
I listened to your vlog and couldn't help but think you have a great voice for talk back radio, the topics and call ins would be very very interesting
Champion the Wonder Horse, blimey, I'd forgotten all about that one !!
When's the "never go back" trip to Tenerife ? Excellent video Lee and well presented as always ,thank you.
Great findings as always. Fish and chips on the menu.
Full fat coke… controversial! 😂
back then (late 60s? early 70s?) i doubt they used modern seed oils to fry - probably tallow? - they tell me chips cooked in tallow are on a different level.
We used tallow to grease the dead centres on lathes when I was an apprentice engineer in 79. Made from sheep and animal fat much better than pig fat. ❤
Very good video and amazing part of England..
