This is when you realize that Grandma was cooler than you'll ever be.
Damn right!
This is not only the greatest version, but is the greatest live performance in all of history.
I was there and it was magic! No cell phones, no sunscreen, no camera's just music, fun and sun!
Do you remember how windy it was? A beautiful Day on the Green.
Me too! Maybe you bought hash from me. Blond Lebanese,$10.00 a gram!🤯
@@kevinsmith4429I love the sheesh! The only time I see it now, is when it gets busted by the ton on lamestream media!
I was there!!!!
I was lucky enough to be at this concert. It was a whole day of bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Elvin Bishop, Santana and Peter Frampton. One hell of a day. A great experience……
The Knebworth live from 76 is fantastic as well
Yeah, the Stones were supposedly shocked senseless by the awesomeness of the show. They had the unenviable task of following Skynard .
@@MrDevtun
The Stones were PO after Lynyrd Skynyrd’s performance.
How do you say Stones with Skynard on your tongue? It was great when Ronnie put his boys out after Mick told them not to.
Oakland California ,across the bridge Bay area grandma new how to have a good time, when I watch the kennewoth concert, almost the same year, English crowd very subdued, oh ya they waiting for Mick
Gotta love that tempo change smile.
Watching this, the years fall away back to 77 when Freebird was a staple. The great Allen Collins and Billy Powell. What a performance.
What a joyful and sad year that was. RIP.
Thank you.
Like that you include Billy Powell (piano) in your reaction. Even when the band is zooming into outer space near the end, you can still hear Billy pounding the ivories contributing that instrument's unique sound to the whole mass (with thanks to the sound engineers, as well)! Also must applaud bassist Leon Wilkeson for his outstanding "keeping up with the hectic beat" in the wind-up section, seemingly about to break his fingers hitting every note.
oh god what a performance . The Piano , the Guitarrs , the Bass ... all People on Stage and the Crowed celebrate this Concert to the over all above level . Please my Lord ... Send me back
Omg I miss the 70s! Good music and 60,000 women gathered and only 2 bras amongst them!!
I was at that concert, about 20 yards back left center of stage. I was 18 years old (63 now) , and It was part of the Bill Graham presents A Day on the Green concert series. This concert was over the Fourth of July weekend. They were not even the Top billing that day, Peter Frampton was the headliner. Santana and the Outlaws were third and fourth billing. It was a great concert like pretty much all the Day on the Green concerts were--we saw some great bands in the coliseum back in the day! A Day on the Green Concert always had a great lineup of bands!
Who did Leon wilkeson just getting it on the base to we always forget the base but he was phenomenal rest in peace brother
One of my all-time favorite piano solos!!! 😃
Showing this young lady some great music! KEEP IT ALIVE!
Without a doubt the greatest solo in the history of music
The Knebworth England version has been recorded as the BEST VERSION in SKYNYRD's HISTORY!! I saw them in 1976 ,BEST CONCERT EVER!! 😍🔥🎸😁😍🎸🎸😁😍🎸🎸😁
I agree! Knebworth was the best!
And now we are all grandparents.
thanks for the memories, it was a great time to be alive.
I was so very fortunate to have seen them earlier in the year in Atlanta and the year before when they recorded "One More From the Road". My heart breaks every time I hear this song but I keep coming back.
Love this song he’s is the best
The crazy part is the majority of the crowd if they're still alive are 60 years old or more. Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd Marshall Tucker Charlie Daniels at the Orange Bowl in 1975. the beginning of southern rock
Wouldn't you consider, Robert D, that Creedence Clearwater Revival or The Allman Brothers Band (and perhaps some others) were the bands first known as Southern Rockers? Late 1960s into the early 1970s were their heyday. Marshall Tucker was contemporary with TABB, MT just on their take-off run.
@@artbagley1406 don't forget about Wet Willy and Elvin Bishop, man we had some bands and good times. 😄✌️🤘🎸
Your Niece's reaction showed this music and the energy is TIMELESS!! I LOVED HER REACTION!....ive been a Skynyrd fan since i was 6 yrs. Old in 1975, when i heard FREEBIRD on my little radio in my bedroom. They have been my favorite band ever since!
Oh I forgot....check out thier concert from Knebworth in England a song "T" FOR TEXAS .....they opened for the Rolling Stones. In my opinion, thier prwformance of Freebird was better there than what you seen here!
Get a copy of the full live album from this tour, One More For (From) The Road. I know people don’t buy and listen to full CD’s anymore but that’s the best way to get a feel of the live show. No video, just put the cd on, drive around on a nice sunny day and jam out. I saw this tour show in April of 77. My first concert and my favorite band.
I love the version of Gimme Three Steps from One More From the Road, all the little extra commentary he throws in between verses just adds so much to the song. My dad use to say "bring all my mules out here and kick them one time" then whistle. I was really young and got a big kick out of it
Hey I've got to copys of the lp and I listen to one of them at least once a week my favorite song is Crossroads.
Welcome to the awesomeness of Lynyrd Skynyrd Kara.
This Oakland live version has a MUCH BETTER ending than just the reducing volume that's on the album. Also, the vibrancy of the audience adds so very much to the spirit of the music performances. Glad the videographer stayed on the bassist (Leon Wilkeson) when he came in near the end and had 30 seconds of finger-breaking playing on those much heavier bass strings.
All those young rock chicks at the front are all grandmothers now. 😂🤣😂
For all the kiddos out there, don't ever say again that your grandparents/parents don't what it's like to be young! This clearly shows we always knew how to Rock out ;-) hehe
One of the Great songs of the 70's!!!
Greatest of all time!!!
I was at the Willie Nelson picnic concert in Tulsa Oklahoma fair grounds I was 13 and I am 60 now 6 bands played and Leonard Skynyrd played it was the best I have ever heard and seen they can't even come close to concerts like that anymore. It's so sad we can't come together like that again.
I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert in 1976., At the Miami Hollywood sport auditorium. Excellent concert. Tickets were $7.50
I saw them 7 days after this show in Chicago. One of the best.
Green Grass and High Tides by The Outlaws.
I was at this concert. It was my first, as a matter of fact. A little known fact is that Lunged Skynyrd wasn't the headliner. Peter Frampton was. I don't recall much of his set, but Freebird is burned in my memory.
This performance is like a 1-2-3 inning in baseball...................no runs, no hits, NO ERRORS!! One of the greatest rock bands to ever grace a stage or shit behind a pair of brogan shoes!
Nobody knew Billy Powell was a concert pianist until one day at the his muscle Shoas Sound Studios. They were shocked at his abilitie! They quickly made him a part of the band!
Tiny Muscle Shoals, Alabama was the birthplace of so much legendary music! If you get the chance, visit 3614 Jackson Hiway and Muscle Shoals Sound! And across town is Fame Studios of the Legendary Rick Hall!
omg that AD!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 so funny too :D your faces when solo stops and your happy faces when the song started again 10/10😍
That crowd came to see the Stones, and most of them had no idea this was going to happen...
I was at this show. 4'th of July,Oakland Coliseum,1977. We were smart, got there early & sat in the shade in the press box all day. Look again at all the sunburned backs! They came on around 5:00.
Great time to be in my 20’s and going to shows. Just digging the music without those distracting and annoying smart phones.
LOVE Lynyrd Skynyrd
Perfection. ❤️🎶❤️
That smell a Skynyrd classic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lynyrd Skynyrd
To think that those young guys and girls are now my age and probably Grandparents too and I wonder if any of those that were there that day have seen this video and spotted their younger selves, 1977 seems not that long ago to me and some great music came out of the 70’s , A great reaction to a great Song . 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OGWT Old Grey Whistle Test performance at the BBC studios is my fav performance of this song
Great reaction to a great song and an iconic performance
Little trivia history here Billy Powell is basically a concert pianist he was a roadie and he hung out with them and they were party one day and he sat at a piano and said if I was going to do the intro to Freebird this is what I would do prior to that it did not have the piano intro and Ronnie was instantly hooked Billy Powell course becomes a pianos and the rest is history there Gary rossington the guy with long black hair down front are he's the one making the bird sound on the guitar just phenomenal there is another great live concert canoble worth-04 I can't pronounce that right the stones had the stage made they open for the stones they weren't supposed to play on the tongue they did anyhow they blew the stadium out the Stones suck that day and I've seen the stone several times live outside never outside were they good when I seen them I have seen them inside they were good different music you know but, LYNYRD SKYNARD simply just blew him away greatest rock band ever
What a concert we were all in our 20s then…..that was the raw talent we had in concerts…..the audience and band were all one….no cell phones
Led Zeppelin live, MSG, 1973- PINK FLOYD Pulse Concert live, 1994, ANY Jethro Tull live! Please watch the whole concerts when you have the time! Well worth it!
THE BEST!!
And ALL OF THOSE BABES! Alabama has plenty of breath taking beatuties but we didn't have the volume of California.
I didn’t see nieces in the title at first, and I thought… there is no way this is an actual first reaction haha
2best first is Freebird live At Nobwort and the back story where they opened for the Rolling Stones and went against Mick Jaggers only one rule
Ronnie used to say "PLAY IT PRETTY FOR DUANE WHO WAS A PERSONAL FRIEND AND MENTOR FOR RONNIE
Oakland '77 was a great version of "Free Bird" but you need to hear them at Knebworth England in August 1976, where they preceded the Rolling Stones. More riffs and Ronnie Van Zant having to take Allen Collins by the arm to get him to stop playing. Skynyrd reportedly stole the show that day from Mick.
Best guitar solo ever
The Knebworth fair version is better. They told all the bands to not go out on the tounge, because that was researved for the rolling stones. Of course Ronnie van zant didn't care.
Not so, imo.
When you realize that the guy killing that guitar solo was the same guy who wrote that song.
No disrespect to Johnny Van Zant and what they went on to do there's no other Skynyrd for me than the original even though rossington and Colin to Billy Powers still around it just wasn't the same it without Ronnie and and Steve Gaines and you know just it just wasn't the same
Ahhh, the good ol days,, when hot 16 yr olds would jump around and clap for a great guitar solo.
Now, do this song's cousin,, Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws.
if i remember correctly, a couple of weeks after this concert half the band died in a helicopter crash. the wording of the song is really touching.
The accident was actually a plane crash about 3 months after this concert. Ronnie Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines, their tour manger, and both pilots perished but surprisingly everyone else survived with various degrees of injuries. Considering that the plane went down in a remote, heavily wooded area, it’s incredible that anyone made it out alive.
You are correct, October 20th to be exact. They left Greenville SC flying to Baton Rouge La. when they crashed. I was at the concert the night before, It was my first concert & I was only 16 years old. I still live in the Greenville area 44 years later. Ronnie left Greenville SC the next day, and I still remember him, as the song goes. RIP Ronnie, Steve & Cassie.
Plane crash
Gold and platinum version Atlanta
Just found you today-3/21/22-ur rite..best version EVER! Soo glad your neice heard this classic. Btr longer solos btr all round.southern rock at its best! Dan..just hit that sub button.👍
Ronnie is wearing an old Ozzie T
Individually they are not better than SRV but having 3 guitars doing the guitar solo is pretty damn epic.
It was 1 guitar doing the solo (Allen Collins) for the first half, and Steve Gaines joining in for the dual on second half.
Gary Rossington played slide in beginning, and rhythm at the end.
This is the greatest live performance in all of history, and definitely one of the greatest guitar solos ever, if not THE greatest.
@@daseguin I agree, one of the greatest! Thanks!
You should show Kara these 3 songs in no particular order. Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, the Live Pulse version is the best in my opinion. Deep Purple.. Highway star. The live from Denmark version is a good choice. Then some southern rock.. Molly Hatchet... Flirting with disaster, the studio version is great for this song as I have been unable to find a live version that beats it. I think she will enjoy them all. It is so cool you are showing her some great music. I have done this with my kids and now my Grandkids. Keep real rock alive.
i’ve actually heard comfortably numb. love Pink Floyd actually their dark side of the moon album is a masterpiece!
This is the first time I've seen you two and you are just great and it is just fantastic you don't pause so refreshing, could I just ask a big favour of you if you can could you please react to in my humble opinion the greatest progressive rock band in the world "Pink Floyd" playing at the greatest Live concert in the world with the greatest light show ever.it was held at Earl's Court London in 1994 and the songs to watch from that concert even though they are all great are "Comfortably Numb" "Sorrow" High Hopes" "Keep Talking" "Coming Back To Life" the atmosphere the guitar solos by one of the greatest guitar players ever David Gilmour.
Johnny Winter Live from Oakland might even be better..."Sweet Papa John" oh my
All those fine young ladies you see in the crowd are all in their 60s and 70s today. Hard to believe, it's my generation...
The Ballad of Curtis Lowe
All beautiful fans! And obviously before the fast food craze
That smell is a good one … true story about Gary Rossington
Hi I Found your Channel looking for Freebird reactions!
the reactor windows should be bigger
Hey, thanks for the support. Yes, you're right. However, the program I use to stream doesn't allow the screenshare window to be any smaller when there is more than 1 person on screen. Thinking about it now, it's something I'm going to email them about. They should add more options.
Gary's slide at 2:06
Hard to believe this, I know-but there is another version of this that is better, in my opinion. It's the Knebworth live version-check for the longer version as there is one that is edited! I believe it's better than this one for two reasons-it's actually longer (yep, LONGER) and the camera work is better. The camera work gives appropriate band coverage, while not forgetting to cut to the crowd from time to time. Plus, in that concert, LS went on before the Stones. LS was told that there was one rule-they could not go out onto the "tongue" portion of the stage. Ronnie said, eff that, LOL. I highly recommend checking out that version as well as other tunes they played that day. Every LS fan needs to check it out!!
Oh to be a young male in that audience. Those were the days.
You have got to play Alman Brothers/ live at the Fillmore ( Whipping Post) next or Frampton Comes Alive (Do you feel like we do)
Try Dire Straights Sultans of Swing live Alchemy outstanding
Does anyone feel this free today, in 2021.
You need to check out every mothers son by skynyrd
Have to let her hear call me the breeze by them
Sad, thinking Ronnie only had 3 1/2 months to live after this.
Try to put your reaction on full screen and the music video in a miniature , because people to enter to you video , want to watch your reaction , your reaction are the main important , the video are only a complement . The people who enter in this video already know the song and the video, they enter to your video because are interesting watch people's reactions. I cant enjoy your reaction in my cell phone, I need to change to my PC to try to watch your reaction miniature . I'm from Chile , please excuse my English
Knebworth (England) is a much better live version
FU*kKIN A NO PAUSES!!!
How about on the Hunt?, i subbed
Yea we hate pausing too and we also hate ads. So if you want to call yourself No Pause Reactions lose the ads.
We want to see your reactions, that's the main point of your videos so please make your personal windows a little larger so we can see you better.
And last, you didn't let the video end, you stopped it early, you missed the huge crowd scenes.
But I love your idea of not pausing songs, your name got my attention.
If we wanna do more content and give you all no pause, we gotta get paid somehow ;) But Get ya, we are looking into options in the future.
Do you think that 100 thousand plus got their money's worth?
When they opened for the STONES maybe better than this one
I refuse to buy anything that screws up a video
It's been too (SOOOOOOO) long since these types of "real value performances"... Sigh
