  • Hey, I've wanted to sculpt another dinosaur, I finally got round to it. This is my T-Rex bust sculpture, inspired by the T-Rex from Jurassic Park/World, sculpted in medium Super Sculpey. After baking, I moulded it and cast a resin copy and painted it. I had fun making this!
    If interested unpainted resin castings on my Etsy store: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/QuentinB...

    I cannot explain how this got me. Is all, the way the jurassic park music flows with your art, the details not only in the rex but also in the main support, this is an incredible amazing piece of art on your mind, of your hands, in the sand, in the painting, the molding. You made my night, i totally loved this
    thank you from Spain, i gonna sleep so inspired and relax just now.

If it's something like a dinosaur or an animal, look at good reference photos of the animal, get to know the skeletal structure and then surface detail. Great job! I am a big fan of your sculptures from Korea! I always wanted to be a good sculpter maker like you but never had a chance to make one... just watching other people making them haha😂 I am thinking to start my own one soon!
    however, since I like your sculptures the most, I would like to ask you some questions...if you will read this conment 🤔
    How long do you usually take to finish one sculpture like you did on this video? (accept painting part, just modeling with sculpy)
    I tried to make one with super sculpy the beige original one, I just keep failing because they get lumpy too easily... How often do you bake them before you finish them?
    what is the reason why you copy them and make a resin copy and paint them? just to clone them? or maybe painting on resin is easier?
    Sorry for such a long commnet but I really would love to hear from you ! Hope you have a good day and Thank you for amazing videos always😊

    • @quentinbryantart5684
      @quentinbryantart5684  4 роки тому

      Hi ed Ben, thank you. Well, how long it takes to complete a sculpture depends on the size and complexity. This T-Rex sculpture took about 3/4 days. It is important to complete the basic shape first before adding detail, are you using things like rake tools to get the basic form first? Tools like that can really help in shaping the form you want. Baking them depends on the thickness of the sculpture, I baked this one for about 10/15 minutes. I mold them and cast them for a a couple of reasons, I wanted to make copies to sell, and Sculpey can sometimes over time start to crack and fall apart.

    • @quentinbryantart5684
      @quentinbryantart5684  3 роки тому

      Thank you very much. I don't mind being asked anything, I used the alcohol to soften how harsh the creases looked, skin like this needed to be scaly but a little smooth too. Carving the wrinkles and scales leaves to much of a man made look, softening them makes it look more realistic.

      @@quentinbryantart5684 there's a before and after Jurassic Park on the way we appreciate the dinosaurs, even if there are wrong information about some of them.
      I love dinosaurs before the movies came out and even as a little child I noticed that, because at 9 I already have read a lot of books of paleontology and dinosaurs.
      The illustrations, cartoons and a lot of things about dinosaurs had another aesthetic, I remember the Dino- Riders cartoon as one of the best and JP it's a little bit alike in the aesthetic of the herbivores, but with the T rex and all the carnivores JP made the next generation of dinosaurs.
      The Velociraptor is a deynonichus, for example, and now they wanted to go more far inventing new species.
      I wonder how hard it would be, if we try to make another aesthetic with dinosaurs, the appearance strating from the bone structure and make it great as JP did.

      You make a lot of good points, I think a dinosaur film, even a Jurassic film in the future could quite successfully introduce realistic dinosaurs.

    What is the liquid used to smooth out the scales with the brush? surely it can't just be water? Want to know, i am currently making a full Trex myself and have made the 15inch armature already.
    Thanks! Awesome vid BTW

      Hi Luke, I used a liquid called 'surgical spirit', its basically 70% alcohol, you need something alcohol based to smooth out oil based clay like Sculpey. The stronger the alcohol the more harsh it will be smoothing out the clay. Good luck with you T-Rex!

      @@quentinbryantart5684 I have Isopropyl alcohol, so i will mix that in a roughly 7:3 ratio with water to make it less harsh, unless that kind of alcohol is too bad. Thanks! Looking forward to re-entering my childhood hobby

      Mixing the isopropyl and water might not work, I remember I tried that and I didn't get the results I wanted, unless you've already done it and it works in that case great! If it doesn't you may have to buy some 70% rubbing alcohol.

      @@quentinbryantart5684 haven't tried it yet, simply adding the first layers of clay to the armature. will get rubbing alcohol instead, thanks for the advice!
