Russians Are Fleeing in Fear of Being Drafted

- Earlier this week, The Kremlin claimed that four occupied regions in Ukraine had voted in favor of joining Russia. Now, President Vladimir Putin announced his plans to annex these regions on Friday. All the while, there has been a huge mobilization effort in Russia leading thousands of Russians to flee the country in fear of being drafted to fight against Ukrainian forces, and to defend what will become Russian territory. Alec Luhn speaks with Seb Walker from Istanbul.

The more they mobilize, the more people Leave. They more people leave, the more they mobilize. This is what the disintegration of a state looks like.
He knows that his state and his reign are at the cusp of collapse and he is desperate. The Russian people (and people in general) mean nothing to him and he is willing to kill off as many as it takes to achieve his personal ambitions of restoring the Soviet Union he so dearly idolises. This won't happen, so the possibility of nuclear weapons being used by this madman is very real and very very scary.
they keep shooting themselves in the foot
@@geekphilosophy4258 Yeah, I'm waiting for one in the head too. Just like that guy with a weird mustache did back in WW2
all of these Russian men two weeks ago were cheering it on before the mobilization ""all Ukrainians are Nazis they're coming to invade Russia we must kill them all NATO bad America bad"", and now what, you don't hear them saying that now!! Plus they're all running to countries that they invaded just a few years ago looking for sympathy just like they are doing to Ukraine!! Alll of these men need to be back in Russia affecting change and getting rid of Putin protesting the actual war instead of getting sent to it!!!
Now if only they'd all disintegrate so that we can "rule" ourselves...
turning someone who is vehemently opposed to the war into a soldier sent to the frontlines is surely a great way to build a cohesive army
Yeah with a bunch of equipment from the 1950s and '60s rusted assault rifles they're not even giving these guys winter clothing no food no body armor nothing all of that stuff they have to buy with their own money and most importantly they're not getting any training there's just sending a lot of them straight to the front a bunch of them are already there. Going to be nothing but cannon meat.
Great for morale
And annexing a region swimming with resistant fighters, spies and counter spies, and an unwilling population right on the border of Europe is also pretty smart.
Truly a brilliant tactical decision. Putin's book on war in the future will make Sun Tzu's Art Of War look like a baby playing with toy soldiers

@@smokex3652 Yes, the biggest support for war usually comes from those who don't have to fight in it.
In the US, almost everyone is pro-war. The only major anti-war group left in the US are former soldiers.
@@smokex3652 Nazis exist everywhere (including in Russia). The fact that the Azov battalion was allowed to exist openly is pretty awful, but the existence of one small group of people doesn't justify a war. How the Russian people ever took that as an acceptable justification is beyond my understanding. Then again, I was around to see the US justify long-term for-profit war in Iraq and Afghanistan in retallation over an attack by a small group of Saudis. Those were just "special military operations" at first, too. Americans and Russians are too used to the concept of their governments doing whatever they want, wrecking countries and ending thousands of lives. Just keep the good life at home safe, and we all justify it, whether it's "weapons of mass destruction" or "de-Nazification". easier said then done. Like during the Vietnam War, it's the poor and uneducated who end up being drafted and fighting. The educated and the wealthy have options and find a way out. Most of the young Russian males who are leaving or have already left are educated and have some money or income to be able to leave.

Anybody know, I have been curious about this since men and families started fleeing Russia?
because they go through border control when they leave. I think they get registrated.
That's the good thing, the won't:) Russian infrastructure is so outdated they completely rely on stupid people who sheepishly turn up at a conscription office once they've been summoned, there's no data base in the military, they just write summons to everyone. There's a propaganda on TV fearmongering people: the thesis is: if you leave you're a coward, new laws added: 10 years of jail time for desertion, 15 for failing to comply with an order. They misinforming people through propaganda, these laws don't apply until u are legally conscripted. Smart people just throw the summons paper away, no way of tracking who received it, no legal obligation even if you did, no time for them to arrest you. Mainly they catch people on the streets, at home, the stupid ones turn up. What wasn't highlighted in the video is that people across the country are burning conscription offices down:)
I guess I can cross Russia off my list of places I'd like to visit some day. Alaska's on my list so that's probably as close as I'll get.
3:22 of course.
No man should, in any country anywhere, fight because a rich man tells him to go and do it. Iraq, Aghanistan, Ukraine....
GLORY TO UKRAINE
смерть ворогам!!!
It's pronounced "Slava Ukraine!"
I hate to admit I love translated Russian state tv. Its so entertaining……absolutely insane.
Upper Lars instead of Verkhny Lars correct it
You know that song from Frank Zappa named I Dont Wanna Get Drafted? Its still a great song in 2022.
SLAVA UKRAINI 🇺🇦
Stop saying that stupid trendy line. Idk why but it bugs me.
They didn' CARE when family and kids are getting killed.. I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR ANY OF THEM
The best method is get drafted and just switch sides lol
It's not a draft, it's a "special recruitment operation" 🤔
You cant expect anyone to vote NO when they turn up with guns to make you vote ! I really feel for those Ukrainians that had a choice between living and signing their lives away .
Thats not russain's civilians fleeing, its the Russian military rehearsing convoy movements.
how could it be any good for any given army in the world to send ppl that are not only unwilling to fight but are actually opposing the whole military operation?
Verkhny Lars in Georgian is Zemo Larsi. If you're filming the Georgian side and saying the location is Georgia, I think you should have a Georgian name for the place.
There are vids showing up today showing Russians breaking their legs and arms to get out of being drafted. Unfortunately i wouldn't put it past Russia to drop them off in the Ukraine with a leg/arm cast
What does a 55 year old Russian plumber from some small rural town have to gain by fighting in Ukraine?
They get about $3,000 after death.
They have bullet holes in their bodies to gain
But they never actually die-not officially. Kremlin tries to destroy bodies to prevent from paying out. Mobile crematoriums.
Can steal a toilet.
@@gazpachopolice7211 LMAOOO this comment fits well. Since RUssian soldiers have been caught on cameras stealing toilets
