  • Earlier this week, The Kremlin claimed that four occupied regions in Ukraine had voted in favor of joining Russia. Now, President Vladimir Putin announced his plans to annex these regions on Friday. All the while, there has been a huge mobilization effort in Russia leading thousands of Russians to flee the country in fear of being drafted to fight against Ukrainian forces, and to defend what will become Russian territory. Alec Luhn speaks with Seb Walker from Istanbul.

He knows that his state and his reign are at the cusp of collapse and he is desperate. The Russian people (and people in general) mean nothing to him and he is willing to kill off as many as it takes to achieve his personal ambitions of restoring the Soviet Union he so dearly idolises. This won't happen, so the possibility of nuclear weapons being used by this madman is very real and very very scary.

Plus they're all running to countries that they invaded just a few years ago looking for sympathy just like they are doing to Ukraine!! Yeah with a bunch of equipment from the 1950s and '60s rusted assault rifles they're not even giving these guys winter clothing no food no body armor nothing all of that stuff they have to buy with their own money and most importantly they're not getting any training there's just sending a lot of them straight to the front a bunch of them are already there. Then again, I was around to see the US justify long-term for-profit war in Iraq and Afghanistan in retallation over an attack by a small group of Saudis. Those were just "special military operations" at first, too. Americans and Russians are too used to the concept of their governments doing whatever they want, wrecking countries and ending thousands of lives. Just keep the good life at home safe, and we all justify it, whether it's "weapons of mass destruction" or "de-Nazification". How will Russia know if any of these men leave? So if they get a summons or w/e and they don’t show up since they won’t know about it, would they have a warrant out and get arrested for desertion when they show back up since how would Russia know if they fled before they received the summons? Anybody know, I have been curious about this since men and families started fleeing Russia?

because they go through border control when they leave. I think they get registrated.

That's the good thing, the won't:) Russian infrastructure is so outdated they completely rely on stupid people who sheepishly turn up at a conscription office once they've been summoned, there's no data base in the military, they just write summons to everyone. There's a propaganda on TV fearmongering people: the thesis is: if you leave you're a coward, new laws added: 10 years of jail time for desertion, 15 for failing to comply with an order. They misinforming people through propaganda, these laws don't apply until u are legally conscripted. Smart people just throw the summons paper away, no way of tracking who received it, no legal obligation even if you did, no time for them to arrest you. Mainly they catch people on the streets, at home, the stupid ones turn up. What wasn't highlighted in the video is that people across the country are burning conscription offices down:)
