The world is very well built and it's a joy to explore, as it is in pretty much all Piranha Bytes games. But gameplay leaves a lot to be desired for. 5:10 "Not as epic as the Elder Scroll Series". Well, I prefer the Gothic series (and anything from Piranha Bytes except Gothic 3, really) to anything Bethesda has ever pulled out. By a landslide, too. It's not a close call at all.
I can't be unbiased toward gothic 3, it was my first proper rpg and I think it's definitely up there with skyrim in many regards. but when she said 'especially gothic 3' I died a little inside. 1 and 2 are just vastly better in everything but size and maybe music occasionally (3's is more epic, orchestral, and the higher budget shows but there only being 1 combat track that always kicks in if something even looks at you is annoying after 3 hours, infuriating after 6, and the world being too big makes many of the extremely beautiful scores get kinda stale). 1 and 2 had an immersive, believable world far ahead of their time, they were filled to the brim with hidden little details, areas and rewards for seeking them out, a combat system that almost perfectly combines the things that make rpgs great for me: player- and character skill (although g2 changing how crits in melee and hit chances in ranged work kinda bugs me out in some ways - there are just so many instances of randomly being oneshot sometimes by the exact same guy you can usually take 4-6 hits from. I liked how it kept combat engaging and serious far into the late game though, in g1 you start just walking through certain enemies pretty early, that's a longer way away in 2. but g3 is just obviously too big for the amount of content in it - hidden areas are scarse, the world is littered with empty caves (especially in varant and north-west myrtana), a lot of quests and npcs are just not completely boring because everything has a certain pb charm that gives it a bit of a kick (at least in german, I could never bear to play pb games in english lol)

@@Jrdotan Yea Risen 1 controls kinda stiff, and enemies dealing way more damage than they should at early areas is more annoying than fun. At least Elex has the skull icon for enemies out of your league at the time.
@@jagr06 usually the visuals of the enemies in question will be enough to know how strong they are, in elex simple enemies that seem weak are quite strong. The melee combat in elex is also much worse than the one in risen but i dont hate elex, i just don't care much for it Gothic seems rather interesting, but the controls... The only ones i brought myself to finish at this point were Risen 1 and elex
@@Jrdotan I'm finding Elex having better melee controls than risen 1 add to elex doge mechanics and yea you can avoid most attacks. In Risen you're screwed without a shield.
Tip 9: Just get a lot of weed in the game (the plants), buy the Warhammer (whatever it's called, has a base 96 damage), go to the character that gives you 70 gold per 10 weed plants, give him all your weed, pull out the Warhammer, one shot him into unconsciousness, pick his pockets, get the weed, wait for him to get back up, rinse and repeat as many times as you want, as there's no limit to it, you'll get tons of money for hundreds of health potions, and you'll get levels up too, giving you an additional 12hp per level! I'm not sure if this was a glitch or intentional for you to get all the gold and experience you want to increase your health and buy enough potions to last you the rest of the game, but I found it helpful, especially when the Ogres were 2 or 3 shotting me, and the Elite Lizards would hit hard, and sometimes they would "critical hit" me, basically they one shot you at any given moment without warning.
Gothic 3 was probably my first open world RPG game ever and I loved it (even with all the bugs)... then a few years later (after my PC got stolen) I played Gothic 2 on a potato laptop and that game was simply amazing... one of the best games I ever played. I recently replayed Gothic 3 again with all the community fixes and stuff. Spent about 60 hours in the game and loved it. Time to give Risen 1 a shot.
Great tips, I feel like this game is incredibly underappreciated, it's easily one of the better PB titles, up there with Gothic 2 in my opinion. I'd just like to point that if you go Warrior of the, you'll look more awesome, and you'll still get to buy that amulet, so you won't really miss out on anything. Scrolls pretty much take care of all your rune magic needs, so becoming a Mage for that is not worth the LP, unless you're willing to wait for seal 3 and 150 wisdom and skip lockpicking entirely, which could be kinda tedious. The only reason to go for a Mage in my opinion is if you're going to specialize in crystal magic, in which case you'll invest in a large mana pool anyway and thus will benefit more from being able to cast directly from runes. Using mana-only healing spells can save you some money if you're melee, but you probably want to use that mana on something else, like for example a summon or frost crystal anyway. All in all, the point is that going for Warrior of the Order doesn't have any benefits over a mage technically, (other than having better protection at chapter 3 when getting commandants armor; it's the same benefit as the mage's amulet, but you don't have to sacrifice the amulet slot. This balances out in the end as the high mage robes and inquisitor armor are identical) but you don't lose that much either.
i bought this like 10 years ago on a used rack. was the best 6 bucks. it was hard took me forever and i never beat it. mot cause it got to hard but i had to stop cause my foster house said i played to much lol

I have a question, i know maximum strenght is 100, but i have seen when you have 100 you still can increase if you drink potion of strenght or eating plants for maximise your strenght, it still counting after 100 or will remain at 100 even if there says you have more like 110 or 112 ? and the second question, where can i find the recipes for making strenght potions or maximum life potions ?

I mean playing as a Don bandit is satisfaying as hell, you can steal, fight with heavy weapons and it's all "in character". On the other hand in my opinion in the monastery there are more interesting quests, for example investigation of the murder, you can learn magic all you just feeling that you're "on the good side". A lot of people told me to go to the swamp and do all quests for Don, later go to the Harbor town and join Inqusition. In this case you can literally experience most of the game on one playthrough...
I just wish they made the map bigger with more factions so I could explore more. I'm not a fan of the other Risen games and I can't play Gothic 1 and 2 cause of constant crashing that I'm unable to fix which I've tried many times.
I'm 20 hours in to ch 1, the map is small, but there are so many nooks, cranies, and hidden paths! I haven't even gone in to harbor town yet. The devs did a great job of making a small map space big.
@@stevenclark1662 Even in my 6th playthrough of Risen I've found new nooks and cranies. Although I was trying to get all the King flowers for perma potions at that point. Which took me to new places.
Good tips. I personally found it totally worth it to just wear the 2 swordsmanship rings so I could wield the best 2h blade with a shield. This is a Gothiclike game, which means you avoid damage with good timing and good decisions, anyway, so the defensive rings weren't missed.
I am literary crying right now...... I don't know how this game's memory stroke me after all these years I was 6th grade when I played this today I am 3rd year college student. I feel like I have a fucking connection with this game..... Seeing this after all these years makes me wanna play this again but it's not available at the stores anymore 😭.... This game is like 10 years old and most of those tips are basic gameplay mechanics that everyone should figure out but I think you still might tell ppl that they can move by using wsad keys. Now I get that it's hard to come up with real tips in games that are rather linear and a video would seem empty if you would only give 2-3 tips but I don't think that putting such less than useful tips is the way to go. Appreciating the effort to make this game know by wider audience tho

Gothic 3 was the death of Piranha Bytes, they bit off more than they could chew so the game was a buggy mess on release. It was especially crushing given it came after their magnum opus Gothic 2: Night of the Raven. Having said that Gothic 3 is now enjoyable with the community patch. I may be biased though as I love all of PB's games, even their newest title Elex.
@@Zkdub4 They could chew it alright, they had the teeth... It's the fault of the publisher though, for forcing them to release the game in that state. PB was not done developing G3 ; but JoWood wanted to cash-in. I played G3 at that time (around 2008 actually), pirated, and had 1.0 version (not even with the early hotfixes !!l) ; and I really enjoyed G3, as it was. A totally different experience than G1 & G2, that's for sure ; but not a bad one !

I played as a mage in my first ever playthrough in Risen and i dont regret anything :) i had full lockpicking skill after the city
